Willem (age 10) and Miranda (now age 9) are spending time with the work of Takahata Isao, for this second Studio Ghibli marathon on the big screen. After having fun with Pom Poko last year, and the more contemplative Only Yesterday earlier this week, they take the plunge with the saddest animated film every made, Grave of the Fireflies. They talk about war and family, responsibility and consequences, and crying at the movies. Twitch is certainly not the youngest of movie websites, and a several writers have children who are old enough to understand and consume media in a way that is raw and fresh, but also with the inklings of consideration. The year that was 2013 has almost run its course, so the time has come for Team Twitch to pool its ever-growing troupe of contributors from the four corners of the planet, gather its collective thoughts and pay special tribute to those films that have made a particularly strong impact over the past twelve months. 2013 has been a great year for actresses and female protagonists. Jennifer Lawrence fronted the second episode of The Hunger Games, Sandra Bullock carried one of the year's best-received blockbusters, Gravity, almost single-handedly, while this year's Palme D'Or winner, Blue Is The Warmest Color, featured a brace of fantastic female performances....
