Today is the last day of the 60th Sydney Film Festival, and Festival Director Nashen Moodley and Official Competition Jury President Hugo Weaving have just announced Only God Forgives as the winner of this year's Official Competition $60,000 cash prize."After 10 days of captivating and diverse film viewing and passionate conversations, the jury arrived at a majority decision. They are the David di Donatello -- sort of an Italian Academy Awards -- the only awards where the presenters talk more than the winners, where the hosts confuse one category for another, where the guests leave halfway through leaving noticeably empty seats. They are the only awards in the universe where an actress like Margherita Buy can win seven times (and no, she's not the Italian Meryl Streep), where the Career Achievement recipient (this year, the screenwriter Vincenzo Cerami) is absent, where the Foreign Film honours are picked up by distributor representatives, and where the actual Best Italian Film of the year (Bertolucci's Me and You) goes home emptyhanded.Boring and embarrassing as usual, at least...

Editor's update: When the trailer was first released, much of the dialogue was indecipherable due to the sound mix and compression. It was also a Korean domestic trailer without English subtitles. We have added an updated version of the trailer below (provided by CJ Entertainment), which clarifies most of the dialogue but shows that some of the problems may be endemic - especially Tilda Swinton speaking with false teeth. Can anyone make out what she's saying? The Human Rights Watch Film Festival, now in its 24th edition, returns to New York from June 13 through 23 with 20 films, 18 documentaries and 2 fiction films, with screenings at the Film Society of Lincoln Center and the IFC Center. Many of the films will be followed by Q&A's with filmmakers, as well as panel discussions with experts and film subjects. As usual, the festival features an impressively diverse selection of films from all over the globe that explores their subjects with compelling approaches to storytelling and visualization of their themes.
