Holy Moly! Here's a U.S. Trailer For HOLY MOTORS Posted: 19 Oct 2012 06:30 PM PDT People flipped for it at Cannes, they went apeshit for it at Fantastic Fest, heck, even the usually a-rod stiffs of the Upper West Side lovingly embraced it's zaniness at the New York Film Fest. And now with Holy Motors making a slow roll out over the next few months in the states (FYI, it just opened in NYC), today we get a fantastic snap-crackle-pop of a trailer. If there's one film I will be ashamed to miss in the theater this year, it'll be this one.Over the course of a single day, Monsieur Oscar travels by limousine around Paris to a series of nine "appointments," transforming into new characters or incarnations at each stop. Fetched in the morning by Celine, his trusty chauffeur on... |

Troy And Abed Explain: October 19th Is A Feeling Within Us All. Posted: 19 Oct 2012 03:15 PM PDT Are you a Community fan wondering when your favorite show will be back on the air? The date originally announced was October 19th - i.e. today - but as Troy and Abed explain in a new video, October 19th is a feeling within us all. Yes, they're taking a schedule delay and turning it into a positive. This is pretty awesome. Check it out below.... |
Posted: 19 Oct 2012 01:30 PM PDT Dear readers, What follows below is a true story. Names have been changed to protect the subjects' identities. This is only a prologue, an introduction for things to come. Parts 2 and 3 have already been written and the story that will be laid out in front of you is continuing to unfold now as I write this. I warn you, this is not for the faint of the heart. PROLOGUEI was talking to a fellow filmmaker and programmer within the film scene here in Philadelphia the other week when he asked me if I would be writing a Fear & Loathing style piece about the upcoming Philadelphia Film Festival. I wouldn't call this person a friend by any means. The truth is, if you're... |
KEY OF LIFE, WHERE HEAVEN MEETS HELL And APPARITION Awarded In Hawaii Posted: 19 Oct 2012 01:00 PM PDT I have just returned home from doing jury duty at the Hawaii International Film Festival - a tough task, I know - to find the trio of award winners announced thus far trumpeted in my inbox. Though the audience award winner is yet to be finalized the festival - which has a strong focus on film from the Pacific Rim - has announced their own jury selected winners in narrative feature and documentary categories along with a third award granted by NETPAC. And here they are:Honolulu, HI - (Thursday, October 18, 2012) - With every new year of films comes a new batch of award winning projects. The Hawaii International FIlm Festival (HIFF) presented by Halekulani recognizes its top films with the Halekulani Golden Orchid... |
London 2012 Review: VILLAGE AT THE END OF THE WORLD Posted: 19 Oct 2012 12:00 PM PDT Life's tough when you're a teenager. All those raging hormones. The confusion, the angst, the opposite (or same) sex, what to do with your life. Issues universal to all teenagers maybe, but compound that with being the only teenager in your town. A town of only 59 people. In a remote part of coastal Greenland. That's the predicament in which we find Lars, the undoubted star of Sarah Gavron's gently affecting documentary. Village at the End of the World takes an affectionate but unsentimental look at a year in the life of the inhabitants of Niaquornat, northwest Greenland, as they battle the closure of their fish factory, melting ice caps, a dwindling population, a chronic lack of jobs and an increasingly unhelpful government. Chaptered by the... |
INSIDE Directors Reunite With Beatrice Dalle For AMONG THE LIVING Posted: 19 Oct 2012 11:30 AM PDT Julien Maury and Alexandre Bustillo know what they like and they like Beatrice Dalle. The French directing duo leapt to instant international fame with the grueling Inside, in which Dalle starred as a scissor wielding, baby mad slasher killer. And the experience worked out so well that they cast Dalle again for their sophomore film, Livid. And now the third time looks to be the charm with the upcoming Among The Living (Aux Yeux Des Vivants).Youngsters, Victor, Dan and Tom skip school to wander around an abandoned amusement park. They stumble upon a horrific vision: a woman in chains is dragged through the field by a man wearing a clown mask. The masked man catches a glimpse of the boys, who scramble to run away.... |
PANTY AND STOCKING WITH GARTERBELT, Now With Holes and Runs Fixed! Posted: 19 Oct 2012 11:00 AM PDT Back in august I reviewed the Manga UK DVD release of Panty and Stocking with Garterbelt, the cheeky and VERY funny Japanese animation series about two angels stuck on Earth who have to use their transforming undergarments to fight demons. Unfortunately, that release was badly marred by a mastering error on the third disc, which therefore missed a minute of every one of the last few episodes. Manga UK did the right thing, recalled the whole batch, and provided replacement discs, even actively alerting people to contact them. I loved this release. The series itself is goofy fun and the documentary extras on this disc are awesome, amongst the best I've seen released this year. My review concluded with: "...All in all I really recommend... |
Things Get Creepy In Thai Horror Anthology 3AM Posted: 19 Oct 2012 10:00 AM PDT While the horror anthology is making a resurgence in the USA of late the format has been running strong in Thailand for quite some time now. The anthology format is perfect for horror, allowing both new and old talent to get in, set up a scare, deliver and get out again quickly. And as long as you keep finding a new wrinkle to things it always stays fresh. And that wrinkle is obvious in upcoming Thai project 3AM. A collection of three ghost stories, all of which occur at 3am, this is the first project of its kind to be presented in 3D.Chipping in to the project are Colic director Patchanon Thumajira with the tale of a haunted wig shop, First Kiss director Kirati Nakintanon holding... |
Gotye Keeps Exploring Animation In Latest Video Trilogy Posted: 19 Oct 2012 09:33 AM PDT We're long-time fans of Gotye here at Twitch. Well before he exploded onto the global music scene earlier this year, we've been enthusiastically following and writing about the vast range of animation styles he traverses in his music videos. With his latest trilogy of videos, all made to be projected during his live shows and now released online for everyone else to see, it's now clear that the musician is probably the biggest supporter of indie and cutting-edge animation styles in Australia. Check them out below. In order, they are for the songs Dig Your Own Hole, Seven Hours With A Backseat Driver, and Giving Me A Chance. I fully expect we'll see these turn up at film festivals in the future too. They'd be mind-blowing on a cinema... |
Twitch in Bondage: Why Timothy Dalton Was The Best Bond Posted: 19 Oct 2012 09:00 AM PDT Timothy Dalton was the best Bond. There, I said it. I'm not ashamed. Although I suppose I'll have to back that statement up with a pretty compelling argument. So why do I think Timothy Dalton was the best Bond? Because when The Living Daylights came out in 1987, it was a revelation for 10 year-old me - a revelation bordering on sexual awakening. Compelling enough for you? Don't worry, it's not as weird as it sounds. I was raised on Bond. I can't remember which film I saw first, but it was probably an old Connery one on TV, perhaps Goldfinger or Dr. No. I wasn't allowed to watch R-rated movies at the time, so I had to get my fill of sex and violence from... |
Review: PARANORMAL ACTIVITY 4 Adds a Creepy Kid, Little Else Posted: 19 Oct 2012 07:01 AM PDT Give the Paranormal Activity people some credit. They've made three sequels now to what was initially a standalone, not-meant-to-be-a-franchise horror film, and they've done it without becoming a laughable parody of themselves. They've expanded the story in ways that largely make sense. The movies have only gradually diminished in quality, too -- unlike most series, which may start strong but are complete disasters by the time you get to Part 4. That being said, Paranormal Activity 4 is certainly the weakest of the bunch. The jump-scares that are the franchise's hallmarks are a little less potent, the suspense not quite as high, the payoff not nearly as chilling. Is some of this due to a perhaps unavoidable over-familiarity? Is it unfair to expect your fourth... |
Review: Decent Marx for HELLO I MUST BE GOING Posted: 19 Oct 2012 06:00 AM PDT Amy is a woman in trouble. And she doesn't seem to care. (Maybe that is the trouble?) Never mind that she's a quickly aging divorcee living depressively and reclusively in her wealthy parents Connecticut home (she can't even sleep in late, what with all the constant remodeling racket), this woman has lost all interest in doing anything whatsoever with her hair, or even (gasp!) wearing nice dresses. Clearly, she has no idea that she's the star of an American female-targeted feature film.... |
Watch: Iguchi Noboru's BAD BUTT Attacks Lesbian Schoolgirls Posted: 19 Oct 2012 05:00 AM PDT I'm not sure what to add to that headline. As promised, Iguchi Noboru's entry into YOMYOMF's month-long Halloween short film celebration, Silent Terror, has arrived. And yes, it delivers on its title, Bad Butt. If for some odd reason you were worried that the director of Dead Sushi and Zombie Ass might mature or mellow-out, well, you needn't have. You'll find all the requisite school girl romance, fart jokes, Troma-style special effects and yes, bad butts right below in the video. Also, uninitiated (or just dense) readers, please be advised: this one is NSFW.... |
