There's a warm fire to Joe Swanberg's All the Light in the Sky. Co-written by and starring Jane Adams (Happiness, Hung), All the Light follows a few days in the life of a moderately successful actress, Marie (Adams). She may not be an A-list star (she's OK with this), but she's doing well enough to live by the beach and surf the ocean every morning before she starts her day. At 45, she's living in the moment and not worried about her non-existent love life. While juggling her life and career, she has taken on a new responsibility - showing her visiting niece  Faye (Sophia Takal) what it's like to live in Los Angeles. Faye wants to be an actress and live the good life,...

The Gates To Finally Open To CASTLE WOLFENSTEIN?

Posted: 03 Nov 2012 12:00 PM PDT

Like many people of our... vintage... Wolfenstein 3D was likely our first exposure to first-person shooter video games. Myself, I would go to the home office of our local paintball club and play until my vision blurred, I got a splitting headache, or I threw up. That usually only took about twenty to thirty minutes the graphics were so bad. Yet I find myself excited with the prospect of a Wolfenstein movie coming to a cinema near me.  "Castle Wolfenstein is an action adventure film in the vein of Captain America and Inglourious Basterds.  The story follows a young US Army Captain and a British Special Agent on a top secret mission to Castle Wolfenstein, where Hitler will be for the unveiling of a new secret weapon.  After reaching the Castle,...

Twitch Wraps Up TORONTO AFTER DARK!

Posted: 03 Nov 2012 11:00 AM PDT

If one thing became evident this year as we prepared for Toronto After Dark is that we here at Twitch are a lot like a local Toronto television station, CityTV. Locals know. The slogan is 'CityTV. Everywhere'. And we at Twitch are... well... everywhere, as I realised when I continued to dig up review after review of films in TADFF's lineup. It didn't give those of us who attended a lot of opportunity to offer up our own thoughts but it did allow us to visit festival circuit favorites, catch some of our own faves again, and see if our compatriots' opinions were correct. After the break we offer up to you reflections from Kurt and myself. And we also have the unique perspective from Peter...

New Trailer For SON OF SARDAAR Gives A Glimpse At A Bollywood Style Tex Avery Cartoon

Posted: 03 Nov 2012 10:00 AM PDT

SS Rajamouli must be laughing all the way to the bank right about now.Not only was his Telugu hit, Vikramarkudu, remade into the Bollywood box office smash Rowdy Rathore AND his own latest venture, Eega, also crowned a massive critical and box office success (on top of being my favorite film of 2012), he will now see his film Marayada Ramanna remade in Hindi with Ajay Devgan in the hero role as Son of Sardaar.Rajamouli certainly can't take all of the credit for this film. Marayada Ramanna was a loose remake of Buster Keaton's 1919 film, Our Hospitality, and so any similarities there are certainly not coincidental. However, It is Rajamouli who gets to cash the residual checks once Son of Sardaar starts minting money...

AFM 2012: Jude Law Joins Werner Herzog's QUEEN OF THE DESERT

Posted: 03 Nov 2012 09:00 AM PDT

More star power has joined the cast of Werner Herzog's Gertrude Bell biopic Queen of the Desert. The pic already has Naomi Watts as Bell and Robert Pattinson at T.E. Lawrence (otherwise known as Lawrence of Arabia). Personally I am still struggling to visualize Pattinson as Lawrence but if you're going to get Twi-hards to learn about the history of a real female role model this is a good way to do it.  Bell -- like Lawrence -- was an explorer, writer, archaeologist and attaché for the British Empire, credited with helping to catalyze the formation of the Middle East at the dawn of the 20th century. She and Lawrence often crossed paths. On a side note. A shocking number of Twitch writers have not seen David...

AFM 2012: Zombie Polar Bears To Be Unleashed In COLD PATROL

Posted: 03 Nov 2012 07:30 AM PDT

The globalization of modern genre cinema has thrown up another interesting fish. Australian producer Pete Ford has hired ex Warner Brothers International president Wayne Duband and announced their first film together will be Russian action adventure Cold Patrol. Cold Patrol follows a dogsled team in the Arctic that discovers an abandoned Soviet town that has been overtaken by zombie polar bears. Of course. Produced by Ford's company Resolution Independent, Cold Patrol was written by Christopher Webster and will be directed by Nikolai Pigarev - who just directed the first Russian-language zombie movie, Meteletsa: Winter of the Dead, also produced by Ford. The film will be English-language and will shoot in late 2013 in the Arctic Circle. Ford has been fairly active in genre cinema in Australia, mostly at the...

Transmission Picks Up NYMPHOMANIAC For Australia/NZ

Posted: 03 Nov 2012 06:30 AM PDT

In a deal inked at Toronto and announced during AFM this week, premium Australian distributor Transmission Films has picked up Lars Von Trier's sure-to-be-controversial sex film, oh sorry, erotic drama, Nymphomanaic. While many us know it as the film where Shia will get his Beef on, the official synopsis is more demure. Charlotte Gainsbourg stars as Joe, a self-diagnosed nymphomaniac, and the film tells her story from birth to the age of 50. Also cast are Stellan Skasgard, Jamie Bell, Christian Slater, Uma Thurman, Willem Defoe and Stacy Martin. Transmission previously released Von Trier's Dogville and Antichrist - and produced the most notorious key art for the latter with designer Jeremy Saunders. I can only imagine what Saunders will design for this film, another collectors' classic surely. ...
