Shinkai Makoto's GARDEN OF WORDS Arrives In 2013 Posted: 23 Dec 2012 05:00 PM PST Japanese animator Shinkai Makoto is wasting no time between projects, announcing on his website today that his new film - titled The Garden Of Words - will release in Japanese theaters in the first half of 2013. Titled Kotonoha no Niwa in Japanese, Shinkai offers few clues as to the story, offering only that it will be a love story in the literal Japanese meaning of the word - which translates to something closer to 'lonely sadness' - and noting the more contemporary concept of love was something imported to Japan from the west.... |

Laotian Horror CHANTHALY Demonstrates How To Act With Animals Posted: 23 Dec 2012 02:30 PM PST There's an old adage that says never to act with children or animals. And while I have no idea whether Mattie Do's upcoming Laotian horror film Chanthaly involves children it most certainly involves a dog.Raised alone by her overprotective father sequestered in their home in Vientiane, Chanthaly suspects that her dead mother's ghost is trying to deliver a message to her from the afterlife. After a change in her medication, intended to treat her hereditary heart condition, causes the hallucinations to cease, Chanthaly must decide whether or not to risk succumbing to her terminal illness in order to hear her mother's last words.Though post production continues on the film and a trailer is still pending a new video has arrived online that features the canine star of the film -... |
Review: TORADORA! Is A High School Romantic Comedy That Even Grown Ups Should Enjoy Posted: 23 Dec 2012 01:45 PM PST Good high school romantic comedies can be a lot of fun to watch. The bad ones, on the other hand, have the tendency to annoy viewers with tired clichés and are often neither romantic nor funny. Without a doubt, the anime title Toradora! falls into the first category. It not only contains some touching romance and hilarious comedy, but is also beautifully animated and cleverly scripted, making it a highly energetic and entertaining series. The show starts off only mildly interesting, with the first few episodes serving to introduce the majority of the characters, who may seem like stereotypes initially. Firstly, we have Taiga, whose nickname is 'Palm Top Tiger' because she is petite but fierce. Then there is Ryuji, a young man who looks tough... |
Review: NOT FADE AWAY Fails to Start Me Up Posted: 23 Dec 2012 09:01 AM PST For fans of the now-legendary HBO series The Sopranos, the Chase is on again. Chase as in David Chase, that program's uber-respected creator and detail-crazed driving force. Now, he's taken that amassed industry cred, and cashed it in to make the kind of high-end period rock 'n' roll coming of age tale that only guys like Cameron Crowe and Tom Hanks feel the need to create. For at least some of these guys, the story wallows in autobiographical flourish. Somewhere between nostalgia and narcissism lies the entrance to these foggy yet clear four-piece remembrances. True to character, Chase has taken great pains to make sure that the time and place (1960s New Jersey) have been impeccably re-created; the characters are flawed and tortured just enough... |
