| Neuchatel 2013 Review: CHIMÈRES Heralds a New Talent in Swiss Horror Posted: 09 Jul 2013 02:00 PM PDT He's a vampire, and that's OK. Such is the verdict thirtysomething couple Alex and Livia reach about halfway through Chimères, a surprisingly intimate genre work that evokes Kübler-Ross as much as it does Cronenberg. A botched blood transfusion during a Romanian vacation fills Alex with what he later finds out was 'tainted blood'. No matter! He's a professional photographer preparing a big show with girlfriend Livia, and this newfound aversion to light, with nothing to say for a developing taste for blood, is hardly going to put a crimp in their plans. Only, as is often the case with latent vampirism, it really, really does. As his fangs grow in and skin goes pale, he turns inward and falls into a deep depression. She, on... | January Jones Shoots A Lot of Bad Folks in SWEETWATER Trailer Posted: 09 Jul 2013 01:00 PM PDT Despite a fair number of film roles, Mad Men's January Jones has not been able to break meaningfully into the cinema. In Sweetwater, writer-director Logan Miller has anchored a film around her as an avenging angel in a purple dress. In the late 1800s, a fanatical religious leader, a renegade Sheriff, and a former prostitute collide in a blood triangle on the rugged plains of the New Mexico Territory. Those western archetypes are played with a little bot of that old time scenery chewing by Ed Harris, Jason Isaacs and, of course, Ms. Jones. They may be hard to spot, but the talented Eduardo Noriega and Stephen Root (also cameo-ing in the much larger scale The Lone Ranger) round out the supporting cast. While Sweetwater does... | NYAFF 2013 Review: This VERY ORDINARY COUPLE Aims to Show You What's What Posted: 09 Jul 2013 12:00 PM PDT Grand romance, as depicted on screen, written on the page or sung into a microphone, is the stuff of dreams. We crave it and feel it vicariously through surrogate works. It happens in life too but scarcely as magnificently as we imagine it in our minds. Romcoms spoil us in a way, they invite us to expect something that doesn't exist, at least in a form as ideal as that which is represented in these films. The Korean film industry is famous for romantic fare and for good reason. Mostly fitting within two categories, romantic comedies in the country are frequently fresh, sweet and thoroughly charming (My Sassy Girl and My Scary Girl to name a few) while the more melodramatic romances elicit sobs from... | NEW KIDS Directors Look For Love In First BRO'S BEFORE HO'S Stills Posted: 09 Jul 2013 07:00 AM PDT Are Dutch comedy troupe The New Kids growing up? Not bloody likely, frankly, but after a run on television followed by two hugely successful feature films they're moving on to some other things. and the big one at the moment is romantic comedy Bro's Before Ho's - written and directed by Steffen Haars and Flip van der Kuil with Tim Haars and Huub Smit both in the cast. Now in production, we've got the first quartet of images from the film for your perusal in the gallery below. And while these seem to promise a bit of sweetness and light, let's not forget who we're dealing with. Hopefully a teaser will follow soon ...... [Read the whole post on twitchfilm.com...] |
| More Frozen Donnie In Extended ICEMAN 3D Trailer Posted: 09 Jul 2013 06:00 AM PDT The Donnie Yen starring remake of Clarence Fok's The Iceman Cometh is shaping up to be a rather big deal. So big, in fact, that they're splitting it up into two films rather than the originally intended single outing. And when you've got that much frozen-ancient-warrior-reawakening-in-modern-times action what you clearly need is a longer trailer. So here's one that's twice as long as the original. Marvel at Donnie's flowing locks!... [Read the whole post on twitchfilm.com...] |
