Interview: Cinefamily Co-founder Hadrian Belove On The Everything Is Festival

The Cinefamily at the Silent Movie Theatre in Los Angeles is anything but your typical movie theater. The name alone should be your first clue of that. The next may become apparent when you arrive at the theatre, which is tucked into a long block on Fairfax just south of Melrose, what with the curiously strange/charming ivy creeper accompanying the marquee, as should the long lines of dedicated patrons -- patrons being a conservative word. A more accurate tapestry would be of an eclectic community of cinephiles, cult lovers, found footage fetishists and fans of curios large and small, strange and stranger. Hadrian Belove founded the Cinefamily with Dan and Sammy Harkham in 2007. Since then they have become one of the most undoubtedly important...

It's titled Rabbit Woman (Mujer Conejo) from director Veronica Chen and is due to take a bow in San Sebastian.Ana, a beautiful young woman of Chinese origin who works as a municipal inspector in Buenos Aires, accidentally becomes involved in the local Chinese mafia. When they threaten her she flees to Argentina's Pampas region, invaded by mutant carnivorous bunnies. The first trailer for this one has arrived online and while it doesn't include English subtitles I'm not sure having them would make it make any more sense, anyway. Weird, weird, weird. Take a look below....

Opening In Mexico: Terrence Malick's TO THE WONDER

Posted: 12 Aug 2013 09:00 AM PDT

The legendary Terrence Malick is currently working on two films - Knight of Cups and a still untitled effort - but in Mexico his Tree of Life follow-up film, To the Wonder, has been only exhibited in the Riviera Maya Film Festival. Fortunately, things are about to change as the company Canana is releasing To the Wonder in Mexican cinemas on Friday, August 16! To the Wonder premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival, in September 2012. This is an extract from Kurt Halfyard's Twitch review: "Here the elusive auteur is less overtly concerned with the connections between the personal and the infinite (as he was in Tree of Life.) Yet one should consider To The Wonder a companion film, if only because it is...

Twitchvision: Jason Gorber Talks ELYSIUM, WE'RE THE MILLERS and LOVELACE

Posted: 12 Aug 2013 08:30 AM PDT

This week's big release is Elysium, which I had frankly mixed feelings about. As I said on Twitter, it seems that even Oblivion, with its abandonment of originality yet maintaining a pleasing aesthetic and engaging narrative, proved the better attempt at making high concept sci-fi this moviegoing season. Also talked Lovelace, another ambitious but highly flawed film, this one about the travails of the pornography industry. Finally, I chat about We're The Millers, a film I had little hope for, yet found in its mix of high concept humor and strong performances quite a bit to recommend about it.For a bonus, you get a rare Friday afternoon tease of the weekend box office, along with our regular Sunday show with the inimitable Scott Laurie.Videos embedded below....

Scott Adkins Stars In Wu Jing's Solo Directing Debut, WOLF. Check Out A Behind The Scenes Video!

Posted: 12 Aug 2013 07:30 AM PDT

Great things have long been expected of Chinese screen fighter Wu Jing - a multiple time Chinese national wushu champion who trains under the same master as Jet Li - particularly since his breakout performance in 2005 effort Sha Po Lang (released in the US as Kill Zone) opposite Donnie Yen and Sammo Hung but, for a variety of reasons most of which having to do with poor management and poor selection of roles, the on screen success has never really arrived for the talented fighter in the way many expected. And so now he's trying something a little different.Having already turned in work as a fight director and co-directing Legendary Assassin, Wu is now stepping behind the camera for the first time as a...
