Interview: Park Chan-Wook Talks STOKER

Posted: 01 Mar 2013 11:30 AM PST

Park Chan-wook needs no introduction to any longtime Twitch reader or fan of 21st century Korean cinema. With Stoker, his first English-language film, it is very likely that his star will shine even brighter and higher for even more of the world to see. Our friend in NYC The Lady Miz Diva was fortunate enough to sit down for a 1:1 with Director Park wherein they discussed Westerns, Josh Brolin, oh, and yes, they got really deep into the story of Stoker, so I've gone ahead and added spoiler tags for those that don't want the movie ruined. So with that, Park Chan-wook!  The Lady Miz Diva: STOKER is one of your most visually beautiful films.  Did having your longtime collaborator, cinematographer Chung Chung-hoon working...

Review: THE GATEKEEPERS

Posted: 01 Mar 2013 10:00 AM PST

It came as no surprise in retrospect that The Gatekeepers is a film celebrated by Errol Morris. Having missed the film when it played TIFF last September, I had assumed, incorrectly, that it'd be a dry piece, merely talking heads parsing out careful responses. Instead, we get something quite remarkable, a decidedly open and honest account from those at the forefront of the Israeli interior security apparatus, and the ambivalence they feel towards their protracted role in helping secure their state while combatting acts of terror. Director Dror Moreh cites Morris' The Fog of War as a major influence, and it's easy to see how that other, often misunderstood film can provide a benchmark. Some superficially looked to Fog as either an indictment or...

The Writer And Director Of PONTYPOOL Reunite For CASHTOWN CORNERS And Things Are Gonna Get Bloody

Posted: 01 Mar 2013 07:30 AM PST

Back in 2008, acclaimed Canadian director Bruce McDonald - best known abroad for his gritty rock and roll road movies Hard Core Logo, Highway 61 and Roadkill - teamed up with novelist Tony Burgess and took a hard turn into genre territory with an adaptation of Burgess' unusual zombie novel Pontypool Changes Everything. The resulting film - titled simply Pontypool - became a critical hit around the world prompting McDonald - true to his wildly eclectic form - to do pretty much everything but another genre film since. He's done docs, concerts films, TV, and more since - the man likes to keep busy - but Pontypool fans have had to just sit and wait patiently, teased by the occasional rumblings of a Pontypool sequel....

Posted: 01 Mar 2013 06:00 AM PST

Last year's Film4 FrightFest, the UK's biggest genre film festival, caused something of a frenzy with a series of idents produced by a select group of young, upcoming filmmakers. Over the course of the weekend, festival-goers were repeatedly reminded to "Turn Off Your Bloody Phone!" at the risk of being stabbed, bludgeoned, beheaded or...well, just read this piece.Suffice to say, the project caused such a sensation that FrightFest is doing it again, and this year they are throwing their doors open to budding filmmakers everywhere. Yes, even you! Film4 Frightfest, in association with Ne'er Do Well Films, is inviting you not only to help uphold in-theatre etiquette by reminding audience members of the dangers of using their mobiles at the festival, but at the same...
