DOCTOR WHO: 40 Seconds Of Actual Footage From The 50th Anniversary Excites

Posted: 09 Nov 2013 01:00 PM PST

With the 50th anniversary special of everyone's favorite time lord broadcasting worldwide November 23rd, it's damn well about time we actually got a look at the actual extended episode. And while showrunner Steven Moffat and his gang, along with the trailer cutting people, are clearly doing their best to make this seem like the Doctor Who feature film some of us have been craving for. Rhat ain't necessarily wrong when it comes to a hype machine, or inaccurate as the special will be playing in select theaters for one night only (click here for U.S. locations). And for 40 seconds this teaser certainly packs a wallop. We see a good deal of Matt Smith, David Tennant and John Hurt as three versions of The Doctor,...

Check The First Artwork For Teen Superhero Film iBOY

Posted: 09 Nov 2013 09:00 AM PST

Will Poulter made quite an impression with his debut screen performance as Lee Carter in Son Of Rambow and now the talented young actor is taking the lead in an unusual superhero film titled iBoy. Yes, you've probably guessed the reference in the title correctly and having had a chance to see a promo for the film yesterday at the AFM I'm pretty comfortable saying that this is one worth keeping an eye out for.Imagine a world where Facebook pages hover above people's heads, private emails are accessed in barely a moments' thought, and a teenage boy becomes as powerful as some of the biggest corporations in the world.Shot whilst on the phone to 999 (the Emergency Services) as a group of kids attack his...

Simon Pegg looks quite the dapper assassin in the first official photo from Australian thriller Kill Me Three Times. The film is finishing up production under the direction of Kriv Stenders. Pegg stars alongside Alice Braga, Teresa Palmer, Sullivan Stapleton, and Luke Hemsworth. From the official synopsis: The film takes place in a sun drenched Australia surfing town. Braga plays a young singer, and is the thread that binds three tales of murder, blackmail and revenge. Pegg plays a mercurial assassin, who is hired by her wealthy husband but there is more than one person gunning for her. Stapleton plays a gambling addict that attempts to pay off his debts through a risky life insurance scam, Palmer plays a small town Lady Macbeth who masterminds...

Busan 2013 Review: NON-FICTION DIARY Offers Captivating Glimpse of 1990s Korea

Posted: 09 Nov 2013 08:00 AM PST

I stepped onto Korean soil for the first time almost 13 years after the end of the 1990s but there's no arguing the otherworldliness of that time, which can still be picked up on today by sampling the available media from that era. These days, some Koreans even reminisce about that special, indefinable feeling if a certain 90s song pops on in a basement bar. Though a fan of documentaries, I've remained somewhat on the periphery concerning those from Korea despite my keen interest for the rest of the industry's output. A number of the subjects that they embark on are captivating, even essential at times, but they haven't always been made in the most gripping fashion. Mind you, I'm loath to admit that I...

Mind-Bending COHERENCE Acquired By Oscilloscope For U.S.

Posted: 09 Nov 2013 07:30 AM PST

Fantastic Fest award-winner Coherence has been acquired for U.S. distribution by Oscilloscope Laboratories, the company has announced. Directed by James Byrkit, the sci-fi/drama/thriller has a good setup: "On the night of an astrological anomaly, eight friends at a dinner party become subject to a troubling chain of strange and puzzling goings-on." The film debuted at this year's edition of Fantastic Fest on opening night and claimed the Next Wave Best Screenplay award. It also won the Best Screenplay prize at Sitges. Our own Todd Brown noted that the dialogue was largely improvised by the cast, which makes those prizes ironic. He also declared the film to be "a great personal favorite ... [it] should prove a welcome addition to the sci-fi canon for those who...

Submissions Open For First Frontières International Co-Production Market In Brussels

Posted: 09 Nov 2013 07:00 AM PST

Having already enjoyed two successful years at the Fantasia International Film Festival in Montreal the Market Director of Frontières International Co-Production Market, Stephanie Trepanier, is taking her show on the road (really, I just think she was looking for an excuse to go to Belgium other than, '..for the chocolate!') and will expand the market to the Brussels International Fantastic Film Festival in April, 2014. I was able to enjoy a bit of the market during Fantasia this past Summer in my role as a Features Film Programmer for a much smaller film festival elsewhere in Canada and I have to tell you; there ain't no weekend like an Industry Weekend at a film festival. So, if you're anywhere near Brussels in April and you have...

BOURNE Going FAST AND FURIOUS With Justin Lin (Eventually)

Posted: 09 Nov 2013 06:30 AM PST

Justin Lin, who guided four installments of the Fast and Furious franchise to worldwide success, will direct the next film in the Bourne series, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Earlier this year, Lin stepped away from the speedy and ridiculous automotive franchise when Universal decided that Fast and Furious 7 needed to be fast-tracked for next summer, since he'd have to be preparing that movie while also finishing post-production on Furious 6. Unofficially, Lin was said to be suffering from "franchise exhaustion." Meanwhile, The Bourne Legacy, the fourth installment of the series, but the first with Jeremy Renner playing a new lead character (in place of Matt Damon), under-performed a bit under the direction of Tony Gilroy. Universal controls both franchises, so it's understandable that...
