Full Disclosure 2014 The Directors Cut: Ingmar Bergman

As most of the world suffers through the sweltering heat of summer, we head to the bleak and wintry climes of Sweden for this month's Full Disclosure. Each month, we focus on a different filmmaking force of world cinema and tackle something from his catalogue for the very first time. Ingmar Bergman would have celebrated his 96th birthday this month, so what better time is there to better acquaint ourselves with this Scandinavian master of existential nihilism, whose classic offerings include The Seventh Seal, Wild Strawberries, The Virgin Spring and so many more....

Review: I ORIGINS, Ludicrous And Contrived, Yet Still Creates A Spell

Posted: 26 Jul 2014 02:00 PM PDT

"The eyes are the windows to the soul." This particular cliché forms the narrative and philosophical basis of Mike Cahill's latest, I Origins, which follows in the high-concept, indie sci-fi vein of his first feature, Another Earth (2004). The title also has a rather obvious pun embedded within: "I" = "eye," get it? Fantasia 2014 Review: I AM A KNIFE WITH LEGS Cuts Away Comedy Conventions

It feels like there are no words to describe I Am A Knife With Legs. Just the title alone should give you an indication of the level of absurdity this comic gem reaches. It is utterly bizarre. Screamingly hilarious. Totally unconventional. A film like this does not get created within the studio system. Instead the idea of it permeates one's mind and sits there, gestating, waiting to come out in shots of comic genius. International Europop star Bené is in hiding. He has discovered that a fatwa has been taken out on him. All he can do is wait as Death comes for him. When we meet Bené he stands in the window of his safe house, eating an eclair and drinking a coffee. Clearly he has...

For all of us who wondered about Edgar Wright's film future after his surprising exit from Marvel's Ant-Man back in May, this past week brought us not one but two answers. As our own Ben Umstead reported just last Tuesday, Wright is set to direct Baby Driver for Working Title Films, based on the director's own script. Now Deadline is reporting, straight from San Diego's Comic-Con, that after Baby Driver, Wright is directing for Sony Pictures the film adaptation of Andrew Smith's 2014 book Grasshopper Jungle. Actually, Wright himself already recommended to his 464k Twitter followers to read Smith's acclaimed book. Deadline's report describes Grasshopper Jungle as "Stand by Me meets Attack the Block." And the official book synopsis reads as follows:  In the small town of Ealing,...
