Review: DOCTOR WHO S8E08, MUMMY ON THE ORIENT EXPRESS (Or, A Thoroughly Unpleasant Train Journey)

To its credit, Doctor Who doesn't attempt to sweep Clara's impassioned outburst from last week under the rug. Her eventual decision to continue travelling with the Doctor doesn't suggest she's forgotten why he made her so angry in the first place, it just uses that development to answer another question. Why, when they know the danger they're going into, do companions keep returning to the Doctor and his big blue box?Is it, as Clara suggested a few weeks ago, that travelling allows her to see the kind of "amazing things" that someone like Danny can only dream of? Maybe. But you get past a certain point and it can't be entirely about the spectacle. In this episode, Clara challenges the Doctor on whether he's "addicted" to...

Posted: 11 Oct 2014 11:00 AM PDT

It's no secret that workers are subjected to punishing conditions and constant humiliation in Korea, a country that has made the news recently for having the longest work hours and yet the least productivity among all OECD nations. New documentary Factory Complex, through a mixture of earnest interviews and juxtaposed, mood-setting shots, offers an involving perspective on the issue, which subtlety invokes the larger issues at play, such as how people treat each other in a highly hierarchical and patriarchal society. Opening in a Cambodian sweatshop, which is run by a Korean conglomerate, Factory Complex examines the plight of the underpaid and overworked and within a few minutes escalates into a shocking portrait of a strike that quickly turned bloody for labor unions at the...

First Proper SKIN TRADE Trailer Teams Dolph Lundgren And Tony Jaa In Thailand

Posted: 11 Oct 2014 10:30 AM PDT

Dolph Lundgren is very much the star in the first official trailer for Skin Trade, directed by Ekachai Uekrongtham (Beautiful Boxer), but Tony Jaa is lurking in the background, ready to strike fear into the hearts of men with his fists and his feet. Lundgren and Jaa play two cops who team up to take down Ron Perlman, an evil human trafficker who fled the United States after killing Lundgren's family and is hiding in Thailand. That allows for plenty of action, occasional flying bodies, and an explosion or two. Michael Jai White co-stars, plus the dependable Peter Weller is present to dispense authoritative commands. The film is aiming for a 2015 release. If the action is as consistently good as what's depicted in the trailer, this could...
