First IRON MAN 3 Trailer Reveals The Mandarin, Explosions & Discontent

Posted: 23 Oct 2012 01:55 AM PDT

The first trailer has arrived for next summer's Iron Man 3, and it shows Tony Stark (Robert Downey, Jr.) struggling to get over the "events in New York" with his buddies, The Avengers, that had audiences around the world going ga-ga. We see Pepper Potts (Gwyneth Paltrow) in peril, Jim Rhodes (Don Cheadle) looking all concerned, numerous generations of Iron Man suits exploding all over the place, as Ben Kingsley's The Mandarin declares in no uncertain terms that "Heroes...there is no such thing." We get a glimpse of Guy Pearce too, but the biggest question here is, in the wake of the behemoth that was The Avengers, does the Marvel superhero juggernaut have the energy to keep one-upping itself? Alternatively, will a concerted effort to down-scale...

First Image From Swedish Thriller I AM MY OWN Gets To The Point.

Posted: 22 Oct 2012 08:30 PM PDT

From the same group that brought you the spiritually laced drama Marianne and the upcoming drama Break of Day (Gryning) comes a new drama thriller I Am My Own (Jag Är Min Egen). Johan Bergqvist, one of the producers of Gryning, is currently wrapping up post production of his feature film debut. We have the first image from the film and as soon as a trailer is available we are sure you will find it here as well. "In the far stretching forest landscape of Sweden, M, a drug dealer on the run from the law for killing a cop gets in to the position where he has to care for a baby girl. With the child's welfare in peril he pursues a deadline to...

"Freedom Is Yours!" In This Twisted Red Band Trailer For UNIVERSAL SOLDIER: DAY OF RECKONING

Posted: 22 Oct 2012 07:50 PM PDT

There's no doubt about it, John Hyams' Universal Soldier: Day Of Reckoning is not the Universal Soldier of our youth. We may see Dolph Lundgren and Jean-Claude Van Damme up there on the screen kicking and punching, hacking and slashing, growling and scowling, but these are only fragments of the characters that first appeared way back in 1992. So what is this then if it isn't a proper sequel? Well, if the new red band trailer is any indication, this is gonna be one twisted slice of nightmarish cinema, unlike any other action movie on the block this year. Dolph is rallying the troops with particular fervor. JCVD is gettin' his inner (and outer) Kurtz on, and Scott Adkins just looks like he's trying to...

THE WALKING DEAD S3E02 Is "Sick"!

Posted: 22 Oct 2012 06:10 PM PDT

Picking up from the last moments of the premier, this episode opens as chaos abounds. The group's plans have gone awry, as Hershel's severed leg bleeds out, and a small gang of survivor inmates clamor to be released from the cafeteria they've been left locked in for months.Scrambling to keep Hershel from dying, the group have still succeeded in clearing out a section of the penitentiary for themselves to make base at. Now with the new potential danger of the small band of five inmates being let out, we get a Mexican stand-off of sorts, with the defacto leader of the cons pulling a gun after hearing Hershel was bitten, and Darryl raising his bow as the group back out of the area into the...

Beware The Rising Of POSEIDON REX

Posted: 22 Oct 2012 02:25 PM PDT

You know what I love about the coming of the annual American Film Market? The buying and selling frenzy of independent films - it is the largest sales market in the US, with hundreds of films being bought and sold for international distribution - brings with many things that you'll never see anywhere else.Like this one. Poseidon Rex. It's got three girls in bikinis, a speedboat, a sea monster and a few lightning bolts thrown in for good measure. Genius! There is not yet a trailer for this masterwork but when there is you know where you'll be able to find it....

English language information is hard to come by on upcoming Turkish effort Eve Dönüş: Sarıkamış 1915 but it really doesn't need much more than the trailer to catch the attention. A period set thriller boasting very strong art direction and an ominous feel, this is compelling stuff. We'll be on the lookout for more but check the trailer below in the meantime....

Ridiculous, Hilarious Trailer For Indonesian Horror DENDAM DARI KUBURAN

Posted: 22 Oct 2012 11:30 AM PDT

Is upcoming Indonesian horror film Dendam Dari Kurburan (The Revenge Of Kurburan) also meant to be a comedy? I have no idea, frankly, but I certainly find the trailer amusing. Shot in a way that mimics the feel of late 80s / early 90s straight to video films - though I'm also not sure if this is intentional - you can gasp in horror as long haired ghosts do not very much at all! An old man forgets to close the door to the toilet! A muscle man dances poorly! Oh, yes! All this and so much more! Check out the trailer below!...

Watch A Fabulous New Trailer For Victor Uribe's 50's Throwback NECROLOVERS

Posted: 22 Oct 2012 10:30 AM PDT

We first caught wind of Chilean director Victor Uribe and his 1950's throwback, black and white horror short Necrolovers back in July of last year. Just through principal photography at the time there was still plenty of work to be done but the initial teaser was already one very impressive bit of work. Well, with the short now completely finished and gearing up for a festival run the final trailer has arrived. And it's even better.Set free by a strange female force, a madman manages to escape from a psychiatric hospital. The force guides him up to an old cemetery where he discovers looters desecrating the wrong grave. Supernatural forces join with the maniac's rage triggering an apocalyptic ending.Shot in high contrast black and white...

Halloween Horror Primers: Satanic Panic!

Posted: 22 Oct 2012 10:00 AM PDT

Need something scary to watch for Halloween? Look no further than this quickie series of primers where I will be recommending some of my favorites. Devil, Vampires, Werewolves, Slashers, Zombies, oh my! Here we start with the Big Guy himself...Mr. Satan, the beginning and ending of all that is evil. I have taken the liberty of adding a general age appropriate recommendation, leaning towards the more conservative side of judgement. Personally, I saw all these films by the time I was 10 years old though, and um...I'm ok...right?Don't answer that, just read on, then get down to your local dvd/bluray retailer or fire up those Netflix and Hulu accounts!   THE EXORCIST -For a "Monster Kid" like myself, this really is the pinnacle of the Satanic...

IRON MAN 3 Trailer Teased! Plus, The First Poster!

Posted: 22 Oct 2012 09:42 AM PDT

How much can you put into less than ten seconds of footage? More than you might think, actually, if you choose well and the powers that be have done alright for themselves in putting together a teaser for the upcoming full trailer for the Shane Black directed Iron Man 3. Yes, it's brief but the pictures are pretty and promise to put Gwyneth Paltrow's Pepper Pots in danger. Check it out below....

Sushi Chefs Versus Sea Monster In Hysterical Short MONSTER ROLL

Posted: 22 Oct 2012 09:30 AM PDT

Deep down inside it's a battle you know you need to see on the big screen: Sushi chefs versus a giant sea monster. Because once they defeat the beast we'll all get to feast on its tasty goodness. Writer-director Dan Blank certainly wants to see the battle happen and so, well, he's made the battle happen.Blank has teamed with producers Matt Miller and Erich Lochner to create Monster Roll, a short film he describes like this: We're really excited to finally release MONSTER ROLL online.  This short was created as a proof-of-concept for a feature about sushi chefs fighting sea monsters.  It's a crazy idea, but one we just really wanted to see made.  So, we made it. We sorely miss the tone of those...

A Visit To The Set Of GRAND PIANO Is Very Grand, Indeed

Posted: 22 Oct 2012 09:00 AM PDT

Spain might be in the throes of severe economic problems, but you wouldn't necessarily know it from the current state of its film industry. With Juan Antonio Bayona's The Impossible breaking box office records and Pablo Berger's Blancanieves the official Spanish selection for the foreign language Oscar, Spanish film, especially of the more fantastic variety, seems to be heading full steam ahead. I recently had the chance to visit the set of Grand Piano, currently wrapping up production in Barcelona. Directed by Eugenio Mira (The Birthday, Agnosia), produced by Rodrigo Cortés and Adrián Guerra (Buried, Red Lights), and starring Elijah Wood, John Cusack, Alex Winter and Kerry Bishé, the film is a tense, intimate thriller, with a complex plot and somewhat high-concept scenario that provides...

Werner Herzog Bringing DBC Pierre's VERNON GOD LITTLE To The Screen

Posted: 22 Oct 2012 08:32 AM PDT

Indie maverick Werner Herzog knows a thing or two about provocation, which makes him the perfect man to direct a screen version of DBC Pierre's acclaimed novel Vernon God Little. It's good news, then, that he's doing exactly that.Variety bring word that Herzog will be tackling a film based on the satiric novel, working from an adaptation by Andrew Birkin. A darkly comic spin on life post-Columbine it's a school shooting story, yes, but not the sort you're thinking of. Here's the synopsis from Amazon:When sixteen kids are shot on high school grounds, everyone looks for someone to blame. Meet Vernon Little, under arrest at the sheriff's office, a teenager wearing nothing but yesterday's underwear and his prized logo sneakers. Moments after the shooter, his...

Review: DEXTER S7E04, RUN (Or, The Season Stops The Tailspin But Still Needs To Pull Up)

Posted: 22 Oct 2012 08:30 AM PDT

While it may just be the radically lowered expectations brought on by the previous two horrible episodes speaking Episode Four of this latest series of Dexter actually seemed a step in the right direction. A tentative step, sure, and by 'right' I actually mean 'any direction other than the ridiculously awful direction things were going in', but hey ... you take what you can get. And at least now there's a fighting chance that I won't want to ram a screwdriver into my ears every time that Deb or Dexter speak. In terms of plot points Run is arguably the most straightforward and simplistic episode of the season so far with only two stories touched upon. First there are the pseudo-Ukrainian uber-hitmen drug runners - and...

Posted: 22 Oct 2012 08:00 AM PDT

Dear readers, What follows below is a true story. Names have been changed to protect the subjects' identities. If you've missed the prologue, you can read it here. I warn you, this is not for the faint of the heart.CHAPTER 1: THE DEAD DRINK IT STRAIGHT, NO CHASER.I call Gina to make plans for meeting up and grabbing a few pre-flick drinks.  Tonight is the opening night film and party for the Philadelphia Film Festival. Appropriately enough, the showcase screening will be The Silver Linings Playbook, a smash hit at Toronto that's already carrying a lot of Oscar buzz. But the film is even more hotly anticipated here as it was shot locally in and around the city's suburbs. More specifically, it was filmed throughout...

Review: BOARDWALK EMPIRE S3E06, GING GANG GOOLIE (Or, Nucky's In A Fightin' Mood)

Posted: 22 Oct 2012 07:31 AM PDT

This sixth episode of Boardwalk Empire season three raises a number of questions, the first - and least consequential - of which is why the hell is Mickey Doyle still alive? Seriously, despite directly defying Nucky's orders and eleven men dying as a result there Mickey is pretty much right off the top, checking in with the Tabor Heights sheriff on the consequences of last week's violent confrontation with Gyp Rosetti. The end result of which is learning both that Rosetti has fled Tabor Heights - presumably to plan some sort of retaliation - and that Eli is reclaiming his position within Nucky's empire. Sure, Eli's appearance is brief, but he is clearly regaining a voice within the organization.Another question: Just how big a mess...
