Dominic Purcell Stares Down The Economic Crisis Through The Barrel Of A Gun In BAILOUT Trailer

You know what feels better than bankruptcy? Cold steel and hot lead. And that's the guiding principal behind Uwe Boll's Bailout: The Age Of Greed, a film that plays a lot like a much lower budget spin on 1993 Joel Schumacher effort Falling Down.Millions of people have lost everything in the financial crisis. They've lost their jobs, their homes, their life savings. In addressing the crisis, the government bailout has not addressed the problem, but instead will have a horrific impact on state economies for generations to come. The bailout has proven more costly than the world's collected history of wars and natural disasters. Countries are going bankrupt and our economic systems are collapsing. This film is about a man who lost everything in the bailout and...

Review: DEXTER S7E06, DO THE WRONG THING (Or, Young Psychos In Love)

Posted: 06 Nov 2012 03:16 PM PST

What's this? For this first time this season Dexter has strung two solid episodes together back to back and it appears that after dropping into a tailspin for episodes two through four the show has well and truly found its stride. Some hiccups and cheap conveniences aside the show seems to have finally found the right balance for this season and the seeds are now not only planted but already starting to sprout as far as pushing the character into some interesting - and difficult - new directions.Let's start with the secondary storyline first and work from there. For the first time in the show's lengthy run the major villain of the piece does not occupy the prime spot in the show's radar - it...

Uwe Boll Goes LARPing In First IN THE NAME OF THE KING 3 Trailer

Posted: 06 Nov 2012 03:00 PM PST

Give Uwe Boll's 2007 effort In The Name Of The King this much credit: It tried hard. Boll's first adaptation of the video game franchise had big ambitions that it matched with a big cast - Jason Statham, Ron Perlman, Ray Liotta, Burt Reynolds, Matthew Lillard, Leelee Sobieski, Claire Forlani, etc - one of the world's best fight choreographers and large scale effects. Sure, it's a baffling movie but it's a weirdly entertaining one and certainly never boring. But based on the trailer for Boll's In The Name Of The King 3, I think the whole trying hard bit has gone out the window.Hazen Kaine, an American contract killer living in Sofia, Bulgaria, gets more than he bargains for when he enters into a contract...

Review: BOARDWALK EMPIRE S3E08, PONY (Or, That Gauntlet You Threw? Right Back Atcha.)

Posted: 06 Nov 2012 02:45 PM PST

Been itching for the return of Nelson Van Alden? Wondering when and how a man as prone to excessive violence as Gyp Rosetti would strike back after the attempt on his life? Curious as to how a woman in the thirties would obtain a diaphragm? Well, step right up kids, because Tim Van Patten is serving up all of the above and a whole lot more in one doozy of an episode of Boardwalk Empire. This week's episode - titled simply Pony - starts by returning to s string of relatively small scale story lines and weaving them into an ever more complex web of increasingly open conflict before things get literally explosive. Van Patten kicks things off with Gillian Darmody who keeps things interesting on...

Dinner is coming to get you. And it's got a chainsaw.Director Jordan Downey turned out a cult hit with 2009 effort ThanksKilling and he's back now with ThanksKilling 3, having opted to simply skip over number two entirely. In "ThanksKilling 3," the fowl-mouthed villain Turkie is back and hacking his way to find the last copy of "ThanksKilling 2" which has landed in the hands of a group of disturbingly crude puppets. The death toll rises as Turkie carves through the likes of Flowis the rapping grandma, Rhonda the bisexual space worm, Yomi the puppet in search of her mind, and their equally ridiculous friends who all travel through fantastical settings such as the FeatherWorld and Turkey Hell.  With the guidance of Uncle Donny (Dan Usaj), the...

Blu-ray Review: IT'S ALWAYS SUNNY IN PHILADELPHIA S.7 - The Gang Runs Out of Steam, Gets Brilliant Again

Posted: 06 Nov 2012 01:03 PM PST

The seventh season of the FX series, recently released on DVD and Blu-ray, had probably a weaker hit-miss ratio than in previous seasons. Maybe owing to the challenge of finding ways to make the series' formula work and creating ever more elaborate plots for them to show their creepiest, most socially maladjusted sides was wearing the creators down. That's not to say it's a total wash (or even bad, on balance). But when stacked against previous seasons, the seventh is maybe the weakest in this typically gloriously messed-up show. For those of you unfamiliar with the show, It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia is the brainchild of creator Glenn Howerton, who also plays the sociopathic narcissist Dennis Reynolds in the series. The series revolves around Dennis,...

First Teaser For Alan Moore's JIMMY'S END

Posted: 06 Nov 2012 12:00 PM PST

Alan Moore is, to put it gently, a little bit cranky. The famed graphic novelist has been very outspoken in his displeasure towards the screen adaptations of his written words over the years and so, unhappy with seeing other people's versions of his work on the screen, Moore has teamed up with his long time friend Mitch Jenkins to create a series of new short films all written by Moore specifically for the screen. One of these is Jimmy's End, a film described as occult and noir-flecked, and the first teaser has arrived to back that up. Will Moore's imagery have the same impact on the screen as it does on the page? Check the teaser below to see for yourself....

Don't let Elijah Wood fool you. Crowd funded indie fight flick Unlucky Stars first crossed our radar here at Twitch back in March of this year when they released their first teaser to drive an Indiegogo campaign. Well, that campaign has wrapped up, the creators aim to complete the film by the end of the year, and to celebrate they're punching each other in the face and capturing it on camera. When Peru's Biggest Action Film Star and Jordan's newest rising talent find themselves pursued by a notorious Bookie, a couple of private investigators are forced to choose between their job and their conscience. With martial arts and comedy inspired by the golden era of 80s Hong Kong Action Cinema, "Unlucky Stars" is an exciting action packed ride that pays homage to the...

Now on Blu-ray: Spending Time With the Master With Universal's ALFRED HITCHCOCK: THE MASTERPIECE COLLECTION

Posted: 06 Nov 2012 09:02 AM PST

I'm ashamed to admit that until maybe a year or two ago, I'd seen more films by Hitchcock acolyte Brian De Palma than I had by old Hitch himself. That's right--I saw Femme Fatale well before I had a chance to consider Hitchcock's own identity shifting thriller Vertigo, a curious film education that might explain more about me than I care to admit. Anyway, Universal's release of their Alfred Hitchcock: The Masterpiece Collection has been my opportunity to consider the filmmaker in full, a 15-movie collection ranging from 1942's WWII thriller Saboteur to 1976's winking, kind of silly Family Plot. Honestly, I'm still in the process of wading through everything here, but wanted to check in and assure you that for fans of the master...

Blu-ray Review: INCREDIBLY EVER AFTER aka MR & MRS INCREDIBLE (FUNimation)

Posted: 06 Nov 2012 08:01 AM PST

Most people either love or hate Louis Koo. The current star of many medium budget Hong Kong potboilers has a rather unimpressive aura about him that doesn't necessarily distinguish him from other performers. However, he somehow manages to make his way into a really great movie every once in a while, much to everyone's surprise. Sandra Ng is not all that different in this regard. She, too, has made her way on to the big screen more often than one might think over the last decade. But her last real standout performance came in either 2004's Perhaps Love or 2003's Men Suddenly in Black. So what happens when you smash together these two relatively unengaging performers and try to wrap a wacky superhero action comedy around...

Books to be Scene: Anna Richards' LITTLE GODS

"All right then, die!" Gloria shouted, and Jean dropped to the floor with a satisfying thud."Hurrah!" Gloria whooped and ran over to the felled giant. "That was very good. I had a friend before who was quite good, but she didn't like doing the man parts and she was as small as I am, so I was never very convinced.""I don't mind," Jean quickly answered. "I'm very tall. And big like a boy. I can do all those parts, if you tell me how.""You can be Samson tomorrow," Gloria offered. "He dies too."Jean laughed. "I can do that. I can do anything you like."It was a matter of luck that Gloria never came across anyone she wanted killed. Before we get started, some backstory: I've always...

Blu-ray Review: THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN 3D Is A Visually Pleasing Thematic Muddle

Posted: 06 Nov 2012 06:00 AM PST

I'm with our own Brian Clark -- as far as it goes, Marc Webb's The Amazing Spider-Man isn't terrible so much as painfully slight. You could come up with less inspired ideas than rebooting a film franchise that's only a decade old, but just barely. And gifted with a terrific cast and rafts of money, 500 Days of Summer director Webb (and writer James Vanderbilt, Zodiac) chose to reinvent hard-luck hero Peter Parker as a painfully mopey, moody teen -- one who's in parts cruel, capricious, and selfish while never really nailing any sort of message about the character. "With great power comes great responsibility" becomes smoothed away to "you're my hero, Peter." Again, Mr. Clark considers the movie: Jammed in-between it all are Parker's parent-issues...

Watch: Brutal Trailer for Wartime Horror Film THE SEASONING HOUSE

After playing to strong reviews at Sitges and FrightFest, The Seasoning House, directorial debut of British special effects maestro Paul Hyett (The Descent, The Woman in Black), is set to hit UK theaters sometime in 2013 thanks to Kaleidescope Films Distribution. In the meantime, we've got the official, ultra-violent trailer, in which an abused deaf mute wreaks vengeance upon a cruel brothel during a military conflict in the Balkans. Alternate title suggestion: I Spit on your Tank. Here's the synopsis from the Variety story about Kaleidescope's acquisition of the film:The Seasoning House follows a deaf mute orphan, living in a house where young girls are bought and sold for men's pleasure, who sets out to exact revenge for the death of her friend. While our own...
