Holy Crap, Christoph Waltz Might Be In A MUPPET Movie! Posted: 31 Oct 2012 09:00 PM PDT I purposely chose a sterner looking Christoph Waltz picture, instead of a nice, smiley one, because - who is with me on this one - who wouldn't like to see Waltz channel a little bit of Col. Hans Landa if he lands the role of 'Interpol Inspector' in the next Muppet movie? I know that is a bit far fetched for a family movie, but hell, I'd pay double to see that interrogation go down. Either way, the likeable actor is currently negotiating for this role in the European-set sequel. While the film is expected to have a slew of cameos, as is a Muppets movie tradition, the part of the Interpol inspector is one of a small handful of human roles that will stand apart. The other... |

The Full Theatrical Trailer Of THUPPAKKI Gives Us More Action, More Romance, And More Vijay Posted: 31 Oct 2012 08:30 PM PDT A few weeks ago Tamil film fans were teased with about 30 seconds of footage from director AR Murugadoss's upcoming action thriller Thuppakki and we were all eager to see more. Our wish has been granted with this new theatrical trailer that quadruples the length of the first look teaser without giving us too much more to work with in terms of grasping the tone of the film. This trailer looks like more of the same, except now we get a little bit of romance thrown in via an appearance from the film's heroine, Kajal Agarwal, who probably has a higher average gross on her projects than anyone in India at the moment. All of this is not terribly exciting unfortunately, however, I'm willing to give... |
Poster Art For Aussie-Indian Production SAVE YOUR LEGS Celebrates Both Cultures Posted: 31 Oct 2012 08:16 PM PDT Madman have just released the key poster art for the upcoming Australian-Indian Bollywood-cricket hybrid film Save Your Legs! Bringing both cultures together with the love for cricket and spicing things up with some cheeky Bollywood numbers this film looks to be a lot of fun. It premiered at the Melbourne International Film Festival, but will make its way to theaters in Australia early next year. The artwork was designed in house by art director Marcus Cobbledick and the Madman creative team, with a helping hand from illustrator Tom Simpson. SAVE YOUR LEGS! is an inspirational journey from the heart of Australia to the soul of India. It's the story of one man who refuses to lose his park cricket team to the realities of growing up. An uplifting... |

Gareth Huw Evans And Timo Tjahjanto Join V/H/S 2 Posted: 31 Oct 2012 07:02 PM PDT More directors have been enlisted to bring top-loader scares to a cinema near you. Out of Indonesia Gareth Huw Evans (The Raid) and Timo Tjahjanto (Macabre) will contribute a segment. Eduardo Sanchez (The Blair Witch Project and Lovely Molly) will contribute a segment along with his producing partner Gregg Hale and Molly writer Jamie Nash. Jason Eisener (Hobo With a Shotgun) and Adam Wingard (You're Next) have their own segments. And Wingard's partner in crime, Simon Barrett, will make his directorial debut. The first movie followed a group of students hired to break into a desolate house to find a lost VHS tape, paving the way for the movie to go into a series of found-footage stories directed by up-and-coming genre filmmakers. The new movie... |
Drafthouse Films Picks Up THE ACT OF KILLING Posted: 31 Oct 2012 06:15 PM PDT One of the most powerful, most important documentaries I've ever seen, the Herzog/Morris produced film The Act of Killing has been acquired by Drafthouse films. As I stated in my review from TIFF, The Act of Killing "is more horrifying than any genre pic, more unsettling and nightmare inducing than any fiction work could ever be."The film demands to be seen, by as wide an audience as possible. I applaud Drafthouse for picking this up, and really do encourage you to go out of your way to see this remarkable work.Full press release below:DRAFTHOUSE FILMS TO UNLEASH BREAKOUT DOCUMENTARY 'THE ACT OF KILLING'Acclaimed & Uncompromising Werner Herzog and Errol Morris Exec-Produced Doc Will Open Theatrically in 2013 LOS ANGELES, CA - October 31st, 2012 - Drafthouse Films,... |
Posted: 31 Oct 2012 05:12 PM PDT Disclaimer: I am not interested in things as they are but how they seem, how the feel, how they could be, how they should be, and most importantly, how I damn well want them to be.To read previous installments click here & here & here. CHAPTER 8: WE BUY GOLDI wake up in my own bed gasping for air, coughing out a gob of thick brown substance onto my sheets. I roll off the mattress and hit the ground struggling to breath. I inhale deeply but feel a tight restriction in my chest blocking any air from reaching my lungs. I've been having this problem for a few weeks now. I initially wrote it off as stress as I'm prone to intense anxiety attacks but... |

Hollywood Beat: 2015, Year of Superheroes and STAR WARS; X-MAN Musical Director's Chairs Posted: 31 Oct 2012 01:00 PM PDT Disney buying Lucasfilm? And producing another Star Wars movie? Suddenly, 2015 sounds like the new official Year of the Geek. If Disney's plans for world domination work out, they will kick off the summer of 2015 with The Avengers 2 on the first weekend of May, capture kids and adults with Pete Docter's untitled project known as The Untitled Pixar Movie That Takes You Inside the Mind on June 19, begin a new phase of superhero adventures with Edgar Wright's Ant-Man on November 6, and then roll out another Pixar movie, thought to be Lee Unkrich's Dia de los Muertos project, on November 25. So where does Star Wars: Episode 7 fit into the schedule? Bear in mind that Warner Bros. "recently announced their intention... |
Jason Gorber's Cineruminations: Disney, STAR WARS, and a New Hope Posted: 31 Oct 2012 12:00 PM PDT "This will be a day long remembered..." The pithy quotes and snide, snarky tweets came fast and furious yesterday as we received the bombshell news: Lucasfilm is now part of Disney, and there will be (at least) three more Star Wars films coming to the big screen in the next few years. I'm not sure this quite works on the level of "where were you when...", but the announcement was certainly shocking to many. For those following such things, the move to Disney isn't so unexpected. As Lucas himself admits, Lucasfilm already worked as a "mini-Disney," with its attendant companies such as Lucasfilm Animation, effects house Industrial Light & Magic and post-production mecca Skywalker Sound. The connection actually goes back even further; Lucas has often... |
Meet The Muscle And Mind Of FRANKENSTEIN'S ARMY In First Official Stills! Posted: 31 Oct 2012 11:00 AM PDT With Richard Raaphorst's Frankenstein's Army lumbering through post production backers Dark Sky Films have released the first official pair of stills from the film. What do you get? Well, there's Karel Roden (Hellboy) as the pivotal mad scientist performing a bit of surgery along with the first proper look at Propellerhead, one of the Doctor's signature creations. As an executive producer on the film I've had a chance to see all of the creatures and while Propellerhead is a personal favorite I can say absolutely that this is just scraping the tip of the iceberg ...'Frankenstein's Army' takes place toward the end of World War II, as Russian soldiers push into eastern Germany and stumble across a secret Nazi lab, one that has unearthed and... |
Get Chopping With First HATCHET III Stills Posted: 31 Oct 2012 10:00 AM PDT Victor Crowley is back and his weapon of choice is all sharpened up and ready to go. Adam Green hands the reins of his Hatchet franchise to director BJ McDonnell for the third installment and a trio of stills has just arrived.HATCHET 3 will continue the saga of Crowley, the "Bayou Butcher," who first made his gruesome mark in 2007's groundbreaking Hatchet. Adam Green's HATCHET 2 sequel became the first unrated independent horror film to be exhibited by a major chain (AMC Theatres) in more than 25 years when it opened. The movie is written and executive produced by series creator Adam Green, who also directed the first two films in the series. Veteran camera operator BJ McDonnell (Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter, Project X, Easy A,... |
Halloween Horror Primers: Giant Monsters! Posted: 31 Oct 2012 09:00 AM PDT Sometimes bigger IS better. One of my favorite fantastic flick sub-genres is that of the "ginormous monster." I don't know a single kid who hasn't gone through some kind of dinosaur phase in school. Coupled with growing up on the local TV affiliate's Saturday matinee (RIP, cable killed that dead), which is where they'd show more age-appropriate fare, we got a lot of old Toho Godzilla flicks and the old 50s atomic horror stuff. This, of course, meant huge lumbering creatures, which evoked terrors far more general than the immediate threat of vampire attack, or strangulation by mummy hands. Strange, now that I think of it, that imagining your town crushed under-foot of giant monster attack was somehow less threatening than being mauled by a much... |
GAMERCAMP brings Miike's ACE ATTORNEY to Toronto this week! Posted: 31 Oct 2012 08:00 AM PDT The fourth edition of Gamercamp, an annual celebration of video game culture in Toronto, will be featuring not one, but two special screenings of ACE ATTORNEY, Takashi Miike's big-screen adaptation of the popular CAPCOM video game that Twitch's very own Ard Vijin raved about when he caught the film at IFFR describing it as: "fast-paced, story-driven, surprisingly exciting and above all: immensely entertaining." Having seen the film myself, allow me to echo Ard's praise and add that Miike has pulled off the rare video-game adaptation that manages to both succeed as a faithful and entertaining emulation of its source material for fans, and an accessible and engaging introduction to the wacky world of the game for the uninitiated.Torontonians can catch the Miike-inflected misadventures of rookie-legal eagle Phoenix... |
Elijah Wood Catches Leigh Whannell's COOTIES Posted: 31 Oct 2012 07:00 AM PDT The writer of Saw and creator of Glee teaming up to tell the tale of primary school children infected with a virus that transforms them into raging, bloodthirsty maniacs? What's not to like about that? Apparently Elijah Wood gets the potential, as word is out that Wood has signed up to both star in and produce upcoming horror comedy Cooties.Starring Elijah Wood, COOTIES is produced by top horror film producer Steven Schneider, who is behind the hugely successful PARANORMAL ACTIVITY franchise including the latest installment, PARANORMAL ACTIVITY 4. PARANORMAL ACTIVITY 4 grabbed the number one spot at the domestic box office opening weekend taking in $30.2 million. This brings the total US box office haul for the PARANORMAL ACTIVITIES franchise to $333.5 million and rising. ... |
Interview: The Singular Lee Sang-woo, Director of BARBIE Posted: 31 Oct 2012 06:00 AM PDT I was fortunate to sit down with Lee Sang-woo a few weeks ago on a Saturday evening in Hongdae after having seen his latest two films Barbie (which came out last week in Korea) and Fire in Hell (which premiered in Jeonju earlier this year). Lee has been in the industry for a long time, most notably as Kim Ki-duk's assistant director, before making the transition to becoming a prolific director in his own right. His official debut was Tropical Manila in 2008 and he has released six films up until now, including Mother Is a Whore (2010), but has actually shot as many as 12, most of which will be released in the near future. Lee was extremely frank during his interview which, it... |
