CRAWLSPACE Gears Up for Hometown Melbourne Premiere

Posted: 03 Jul 2013 08:00 PM PDT

In the last of the behind the scenes videos for Justin Dix's Crawlspace we get a glimpse of how apparently fun it was to work on the film, and we see a bunch more special FX footage (including one soldier with a mechanical stump for an arm!). Crawlspace premieres at the Astor Theatre in Melbourne on Sunday 7 July followed by a Q&A, in what will be the first public screening of the sci-fi thriller in its home city after playing all over the place. I'll see you there!...

FIDOCS 2013 Review: FORGET ME NOT Establishes David Sieveking As A Masterful Documentarian

Posted: 03 Jul 2013 07:30 PM PDT

German documentarian David Sieveking's previous film David Wants to Fly played at FIDOCS in 2011, which was the only time I had the opportunity to see what I feel is one of the most impressive and powerful documentaries of the new decade. That film's subject matter and interviewees have prevented its release in most countries, as it centers around the filmmaker David Lynch and his association with the movement of Trascendental Meditation, and its connections with an almost mob-like organization that practically scams people out of their money. It's a shame that a lawsuit is preventing this from being seen by a wider audience, but at least we can be sure that they won't be able to stop Sieveking's new movie from getting a release,...

Horror Fave MARIANNE Now Available Worldwide On VOD

Posted: 03 Jul 2013 06:30 PM PDT

Here at Twitch we sure have some love for the Swedish horror drama Marianne. Director Filip Tegstedt's first film, written by himself, tells the story of Krister, a schoolteacher who is driven insane every night by what seems to be a ghost. Is it a nightmare, a dream brought on by a guilty conscience? Or a "Nightmare", a legendary supernatural creature out to get him? After its world premiere at FANTASIA in 2011, Kurt Halfyard had the following to say in his review: A film that subtly uses the language of domestic drama to craft a realistic and true horror film is a brave thing to attempt with a first feature. Somebody, please, get Guillermo del Toro in contact with Philip Tegstedt because here is...

Top Quotes From The PACIFIC RIM World Premiere

Posted: 03 Jul 2013 06:00 PM PDT

Director Guillermo del Toro and part of the cast of Pacific Rim visited Mexico City on July 1 for a press conference and the world premiere of the film. For unknown reasons Idris Elba didn't make the trip, but everything else went as planned. Del Toro, Kikuchi Rinko, Charlie Day and Ron Perlman gave a fun 1-hour conference, with del Toro being questioned much more than the rest, hence stealing the show. Actually, the actors barely spoke: Perlman, for example, didn't say anything during the first half-hour but "I can't remember the question." Del Toro's showmanship in his home country was terrific. He discussed such varying subjects as Japanese pop culture, childhood memories and Pacific Rim stories dealing with James Cameron and David Cronenberg. Visibly...

Watch The Hilarious Trailer For Chilean Comedy WORST FRIENDS FOREVER

Posted: 03 Jul 2013 04:00 PM PDT

Back in 2004, Chilean director Nicolas Lopez made Promedio Rojo, a quirky comedy about three teenage outcasts trying to survive their high school years. The success of that one film put Lopez on the filmmaking map, and was promptly followed up by the equally successful Fuck My Life trilogy, as well as the director's first foray into survival horror with Aftershock, co-written with genre buff Eli Roth.Almost ten years later, Lopez returns with Worst Friends Forever, a sequel to his first hit. The trio of Roberto, Condoro, and Papitas (and a little person) are back for more misadventures: out of high school, older, and definitely not wiser. From midget jokes to the "Iron Man Beard", plus the appearance of a DeLorean, this hilarious trailer promises a lot...

Destroy All Monsters: It's TERMINATOR Time (Again)

Posted: 03 Jul 2013 08:00 AM PDT

Of the many mistakes Terminator Salvation made -- and boy, there were a lot of them -- perhaps the biggest was the film's failure to recognize the storytelling potential contained within the franchise's own in-built time travel framework. While I doubt this is what most of us would pinpoint as the 2009 film's biggest flaw, it certainly yanked any credible narrative tension completely out of the picture, and by extension, out of the Terminator franchise. (Sketching briefly: Terminator Salvation takes place in a world where John Connor is aware of the events of Terminators 1, 2, and 3, and yet the narrative never deviates from what we know to be true prior to the start of Terminator 1. In nominal terms, this renders it a...

James Franco To Adapt William Faulkner's THE SOUND AND THE FURY

Posted: 03 Jul 2013 06:05 AM PDT

William Faulkner has remained one of my favourite writers since I started reading his work when I was probably too young to grasp his genius. One of the cornerstones of literary modernism, his elegaic and experimental prose was ahead of its time (and even perhaps still is). So it was a great disappointment to me that I missed seeing James Franco's film adaptation of my favourite of Faulkner's novels, As I Lay Dying, at Cannes this past spring.Faulkner's stream-of-consciousness prose does not lend itself easily to adaptation, as so much of it is interior thought. But As I Lay Dying received pretty solid reviews out of Cannes, so Franco is now set to tackle Faulkner's best-known work, The Sound and the Fury. Also a stream-of-consciousness...
