Damon And Affleck To Produce DC Comics' SLEEPER! Posted: 21 Nov 2013 09:33 PM PST As DC Comics scrambles to keep up with Marvel in the comics to movies race they find themselves trying to fill in the time between the Bats and Supes films with almost anything at this point. And since their other superhero properties cannot get off the ground perhaps tackling a different property is in order. Sleeper, the ten year old comic series released under DC's Wildstorm banner has changed hands numerous times. Probably the most famous to this point was Tom Cruise and Sam Raimi. But the project has had a long gestation period and another attempt is being made by Matt Damon and Ben Affleck through their production company Pearl Street Films. Jennifer Todd, the president of Pearl Street, will also produce. "Sleeper" -- set in... |
Kim Ki-duk's MOEBIUS Finds A US Home Posted: 21 Nov 2013 03:00 PM PST Here's a phrase you don't see on a press release every day: "Film Movement's genre releasing label leaves nothing to the imagination in the wordless castration thriller."Yes, kids, Kim Ki-duk's acclaimed and controversial latest effort Moebius has found itself a home in the USA with RAM Releasing who are planning a theatrical and VOD release across the nation in summer 2014. which is a good thing, indeed, though they may want to ask themselves what, exactly, will stop the hardcore Kim fans from simply importing the Korean release long before that point. It certainly won't be a language barrier. Here's the official release:November 21, 2013 (New York, NY) - RAM Releasing, the genre shingle under Film Movement (www.filmmovement.com), announced today their acquisition of MOEBIUS, the... |
WRONG COPS: Theatrical Trailer Arrives For Latest Dupieux Oddity Posted: 21 Nov 2013 02:30 PM PST No matter what, you can always count on one thing from Rubber and Wrong director Quentin Dupieux. His films will be weird. They often won't make sense. Some will find them maddening while others hail them as genius. Many find them very, very funny. Others don't. But everyone agrees that they are very, very weird. And here he comes again, with his Wrong Cops gearing up for its official release and a new trailer debuting over at Entertainment Weekly. This one began life as a short film that premiered in Cannes before expanding out to feature length and taking a bow at Sundance and now it is hear to admire in all its glory. What Should MONTY PYTHON Perform At Their Reunion Show? Posted: 21 Nov 2013 02:00 PM PST I have few regrets in my life. One of them is the only opposition I could offer up to my parents' decision to move from England to Canada was to soil my armor (diapers) as I was only a babe at the time. Had they decided to stay and I were still in England today I would stand a greater chance of nabbing a ticket to Monty Python's One-off Reunion Show, Monty Python Live (mostly), at the O2 Arena on July 1st. The remaining Pythons are getting together and they made the official announcement today. They are planning to include Graham Chapman in some shape or form. Other than an urn of ashes, I hope. For those of us unable to attend fear not for the... |

But, caught in a vicious storm, their longboat is dashed to pieces on the rocks off Scotland. MS. 45 Ready To Deliver Vengeance (Again) In New HOBO-ish Trailer Posted: 21 Nov 2013 01:04 PM PST Abel Ferrara's grotty grindhouse classic Ms. 45 is returning to select theaters on December 13, ahead of its release to the home video market, all courtesy of Drafthouse Films. To prime the pump, so to speak, a new trailer for the re-release has been prepared, edited by grindhouse aficionado Jason Eisener (Hobo With A Shotgun). As to the film itself: Ms. 45 follows a mute garment-district seamstress - played by the late model/actress/musician/screenwriter Zoë Lund - who, after falling victim to multiple unspeakable assaults, ignites a one-woman homicidal rampage against New York City's entire male population. Residents of major U.S. cities including Los Angeles, New York, Austin, Chicago, Cleveland, Dallas, Denver, Houston, San Francisco and Seattle, now have something to anticipate to help them endure... |
SABOTAGE: Arnie And The DEA Take On The Cartel In First Trailer Posted: 21 Nov 2013 12:40 PM PST Arnold Schwarzenegger straps on a carbine assault rifle and takes on a drug cartel in the upcoming action flick Sabotage. Sam Worthington, Terrence Howard and Olivia Williams also star. The first trailer is out and is pretty much what you would expect from an Arnie flick. Guns. Money. Guns. They've got my wife. More guns. An elite DEA task force deals with the world's deadliest drug cartels. Specializing in complex mobile operations, the team executes a tactical raid on a cartel safe house. What looks to be a typical raid turns out to be an elaborate theft operation, pre-planned by the DEA squad. After hiding millions in stolen cash, the team believes their secret is safe - until someone begins assassinating them one by one. Sabotage is... |
Exclusive: Trailer For THE TORRENTE PACKAGE Raises Repulsive And Sleazy To A New Comic High Posted: 21 Nov 2013 10:00 AM PST Ah, Torrente. The Spanish cult icon, created and played by Santiago Segura, has gathered a following from around the world -- including filmmaker / contrarian Oliver Stone -- with his comic antics, but is largely unknown in the U.S. Doppelgänger Releasing aims to change that by making all four films featuring the character available for home viewing. From their official statement: The quartet of movies in the Torrente Package -- Torrente: The Dumb Arm of the Law (1998), Torrente 2: Mission in Marbella (2001), Torrente 3: The Protector (2005), and Torrente 4: Lethal Crisis (2011) -- are each written and directed by Segura, who also stars as the repulsive, sleazy and frequently drunk "Torrente." An ex-cop who refuses to accept his expulsion from the police... |
Review: PHILOMENA, The Transformative Power Of Raw Anger And Anguish Posted: 21 Nov 2013 09:00 AM PST I was taught to control my emotions, to tamp down anger when it flared up, to empathize with the other person, and to avoid hurting anyone's feelings, which may explain why I sided so quickly with the titular old lady rather than the whip-smart writer. Raised as a good Catholic in Ireland, young Philomena (Sophie Kennedy Clark) fell for a young, good-looking fellow, and got pregnant in the early 1950s. She was sent to live in a convent, where the nuns took her in but required her to work hard for four years to make up for her "sin" and repay their "kindness." Before her time was up, she watched helplessly as her child was given up for adoption by the nuns. Now a woman... |
HE NEVER DIED: Henry Rollins As Blood-Lusty Loner Posted: 21 Nov 2013 08:01 AM PST Henry Rollins scares me. The image of him, bare-chested and tattooed, fronting the seminal punk band Black Flag in the early 1980s seared itself into my consciousness, and so I have no trouble believing him as "a mysterious loner who has lived an inexplicably long life fueled by blood lust and filled with crime and violence." That's the official description of the character he plays in He Never Died, an upcoming film from writer/director Jason Krawczyk (The Briefcase). Here's the synopsis: He Never Died follows Jack in his battle with cannibalism and mental sobriety. An exceptionally prolonged life has brought depression and detachment. Jack buys stolen blood from a hospital intern, plays bingo, sleeps fourteen hours a day, watches television six hours a day, and... |
Review: NARCO CULTURA, A Collision Between Drugs, Music, And Murder Posted: 21 Nov 2013 07:00 AM PST It's all fun and games until your children are murdered in the street. A blood-boiling documentary, Narco Cultura explores the intersection of mass murder and pop culture in Ciudad Juárez, Mexico, where the murder toll skyrocketed tenfold from 2007 to 2010. The tremendous increase in homicides is laid at the feet of the Mexican government's declaration of war upon drug cartels in 2006, and the subsequent battle for territory instigated by the most powerful cartel in the country. It's a city where crime scene investigators are compelled to wear masks while carrying out their duties in public, for fear that the murderers will take revenge. It's a genuine, growing concern; in one police unit, three of Richi Soto's colleagues have already been gunned down, either... |
Anthology Horror Reaches Perverse Extremes In NSFW Trailer for GERMAN ANGST Posted: 21 Nov 2013 04:00 AM PST So, how do you up the ante in the current anthology horror movement? Getting Jörg Buttgereit, the director of the infamous Nekromantic to contribute is a hell of a start. But from the looks of this very NSFW trailer for German Angst, directors Michal Kosakowski (Zero Killed) and Andreas Marschall (Masks) are keeping up with Buttgereit's lurid imagination, if not topping it. In this trilogy of "love, sex and death in Berlin" you will see: people on leashes, German tanks, rusty tools, naked writhing bodies and... much worse. Check out the nightmarish carnival of cruelty for yourself below. ... |
