Most are just redundant, simply bland substitutes for another work. Finally, there are those (thankfully rare) remakes that seem to do the near-impossible, to be so egregious that they retroactively make the original somehow seem worse.Some exceptional remakes do the opposite of this - they stand on their own, they reference the original without being reverential, and in sometimes quite astonishing ways they actually improve on a film that itself is already a classic. He still does those, too, but there's a definite move towards other approaches as well. And the changes in approach are certainly evident in the full trailer for his upcoming effort Live. The logline for the project: A black as tar comedy following a commune of recovering drug addicts in 1990 suburban New York, Stinking Heaven is the portrait of a group of people on the verge of a syncrhnnized nervous breakdown. | TMNT: Here Is Your First Glance At Splinter In The New 'Brothers' TV Spot! Posted: 14 Apr 2014 08:00 AM PDT  IGN released a new TV Spot for Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles today and it has our first glimpse of Splinter in it. And I mean glimpse. If you blink you are going to miss him. But he is twirling a sword so that can only mean that he is going to throw down at some point in the film, right? Just as long as it is not a Yoda-Dooku-all-I-see-is-green kind of fight then I might enjoy that. Splinter is played by Danny Woodburn and voiced by Tony Shalhoub.... | Learning From The Masters Of Cinema: Sam Fuller's WHITE DOG Posted: 14 Apr 2014 07:00 AM PDT  One of Hollywood's true maverick filmmakers, Sam Fuller was never a man to shy away from tackling important social and political issues in his films. Famously, he was the first American filmmaker to tackle the Korean War, in The Steel Helmet, mental illness (among other issues) in Shock Corridor, and child abuse in The Naked Kiss. So when Paramount executives Jon Davison and Don Simpson were scrambling to get a bunch of projects through production ahead of an upcoming writers' strike in 1981, who better to take on the long-gestating White Dog than Fuller, hot again after the recent success of The Big Red One.White Dog is adapted from an autobiographical novel written by Romain Gray, which told the story of how he and his...
