Posted: 15 Apr 2014 10:30 AM PDT

It was just back on Thursday that we premiered the teaser for Brian O'Malley's Let Us Prey and we've now got the first poster art to share with you as well. Liam Cunningham and Pollyanna McIntosh star in what promises to be a particularly blood soaked excursion into horror.Rachel, a rookie cop, is about to begin her first nightshift in a neglected police station in a backwater town.   The kind of place where the tide has gone out and stranded a motley bunch of the aimless, the forgotten, the bitter-and-twisted who all think that, really, they deserve to be somewhere else.  They all think they're there by accident and that, with a little luck, life is going to get better.   Wrong, on both counts.  Six...

TIFF Kids Talk Film: ANINA, An Animated film about Palindromes and Empathy

Posted: 15 Apr 2014 10:00 AM PDT

Willem and Miranda are back with another short video review from the TIFF Kids film festival. A highly stylized animated feature from Uruguay which examines childhood conflict called ANINA.  The eponymous little girl with the palindrome name has an evocative imagination that goes pretty wild when she is punished for fighting with another girl in the school yard. Her quest to understand what sort of punishment she is going to receive for her actions was intense and engaging while still grounded in real world of an average child's problems and learning.Twitch has been on the Internet long enough that many of its writing staff have children old enough to understand and consume media in a way that is both raw and fresh. It might even come with...

Red Band Trailer For Cronenberg's MAPS TO THE STARS

Posted: 15 Apr 2014 09:30 AM PDT

[Video removed at producer's request. Evidently this is a sales trailer that was not intended for the public.]Cronenberg's back and he's getting his kink on with this new, NSFW trailer for his upcoming Maps To The Stars. And while it's not as overtly sexualized as his work in Crash, for example, it's very much cut from the same cloth. The Weiss family is the archetypical Hollywood dynasty: father Stafford is an analyst and coach, who has made a fortune with his self-help manuals; mother Cristina mostly looks after the career of their son Benjie, 13, a child star. One of Stafford's clients, Havana, is an actress who dreams of shooting a remake of the movie that made her mother, Clarice, a star in the 60s. Clarice...

Imagine 2014 Review: THE CREEP BEHIND THE CAMERA Is A Cute And Clever Hybrid

Posted: 15 Apr 2014 09:05 AM PDT

(When Charles Manson met the Carpet-Bag-Monster...) Is it a drama? Is it a comedy? Is it a documentary? It's... The Creep Behind the Camera! One of the World Premieres at this year's Imagine Film Festival Amsterdam, The Creep Behind the Camera tells the story of how the film The Creeping Terror got made. Or, rather, it casts its light on the nefarious exploits of the man who directed that movie, the irredeemable con-artist (and all-round asshole) Art Nelson aka. Vic Savage. Years ago, director Pete Schuermann came upon the story of The Creeping Terror by chance, and was amused enough to check and see if he could make a documentary out of it. After some digging and talking, he discovered wilder and wilder details, but...

DVD Review: Don't Send Your Kids To CAMP DREAD

Posted: 15 Apr 2014 07:00 AM PDT

Eric Roberts plays Julian Barrett, director of a fictional 80s horror trilogy "Summer Camp". Barrett is hoping to reignite his career by rebooting the franchise as a reality television show. He auditions at-risk young adults, who, for various reasons, are in trouble with the law, their families and friends. He also hires his original trilogy star Rachel Steele, played by Sleepaway Camp's Felissa Rose, to be a part of the show. Steele got her degree in counselling after her film career stopped. She has been brought on to work with these troubled young adults. Everyone meets at the camp from the original films. Every one of these 'contestants' is pretty much an a-hole to each other. That is the common trait sought after of reality show contestants,...

ANIMAL KINGDOM Helmer to Write And Direct THE OPERATORS With Brad Pitt

Posted: 15 Apr 2014 06:30 AM PDT

Now, here's a little something with the potential to be quite good: Animal Kingdom and The Rover helmer David Michôd has been tapped to write and direct an adaptation of Michael Hastings' 2011 book The Operators with Brad Pitt attached to star. The book? That would be an expose of American general Stanley McChrystal - the man in charge of US military forces in Afghanistan - so explosive that it led to McChrystal being fired.Has there ever been any sort of indication that the American movie going audience has any interest in turning out en masse to films regarding current conflicts, never mind ones critical of their own behavior? Nope, not a jot, and on that level this is a perfect recipe for losing large...

Watch The First Trailer For Fincher's GONE GIRL

Posted: 15 Apr 2014 06:00 AM PDT

It seems odd to refer to a new film from David Fincher with Ben Affleck in the lead as 'low profile' but the upcoming Gone Girl has been wending its way through production in surprisingly quiet fashion thus far. Quiet, at least, until now, with the arrival of the first trailer.GONE GIRL - directed by David Fincher and based upon the global bestseller by Gillian Flynn - unearths the secrets at the heart of a modern marriage. On the occasion of his fifth wedding anniversary, Nick Dunne (Ben Affleck) reports that his beautiful wife, Amy (Rosamund Pike), has gone missing. Under pressure from the police and a growing media frenzy, Nick's portrait of a blissful union begins to crumble. Soon his lies, deceits and strange...

Teaser: Miike Brings Classic Horror Back To Life In OVER YOUR DEAD BODY

Posted: 15 Apr 2014 06:00 AM PDT

It's about time for another dose of Miike Takashi madness! Japan's bad-boy helmer returns with Over Your Dead Body (喰女-クイメ-), a theatrical twist on Tsuruya Nanboku IV's Yotsuya Kaidan, a now legendary Japanese ghost tale that blends murder, betrayal, and revenge in a most ghastly manner. Originally a triumphant kabuki play, Yotsuya Kaidan has had (there are over 30 film adaptations) and still has an enormous influence on Japanese horror genre. On the border between reality and fiction, Over Your Dead Body revolves around a pair of actors-sweethearts (Shibasaki Kou and Ichikawa Ebizo) playing main parts in the aforementioned famed stage play. Soon their love is going to be violently tested and, as the moody and bizarre teaser trailer suggests, things are about to turn ugly and deadly....
