Eli Roth's Cannibal Horror THE GREEN INFERNO Gets A Chilling New Teaser!

Eli Roth's latest offering of globe-trotting terror takes us deep into the Peruvian rain forests, where a group of good-time-lovin' student activists soon find themselves abandoned and at the mercy of a savage, flesh-craving tribe of indigenous cannibals. Roth again joins forces with Aftershock director Nicolas Lopez, with the Chilean filmmaker this time providing Producer and Co-Writer duties while Roth directs. While the results are just as gory, manic and populated almost entirely by unlikable characters, something about the disgusting nature of the cannibal sub-genre makes their particular combination of decidedly off-colour humour and celebratory carnage a much better fit than it did in the disaster movie setting of their previous collaboration.I saw The Green Inferno when it screened back at Fantastic Fest last September, and...

Destroy All Monsters: DIVERGENT Adaptations

Posted: 16 Apr 2014 09:00 AM PDT

Adaptation fascinates me. Sometimes it perfectly achieves its objectives: I couldn't have cared less about the entire Dorne storyline in George R.R. Martin's A Song of Ice and Fire novels before two weeks ago; but now that Pedro Pascal is playing Oberyn Martell on the fourth season of HBO's Game of Thrones, the subplot has a visceral dramatic focus to it that has solidified its place in the overall storyline and propelled it to the top of my interests in the ongoing TV show. (Plus, really hot.) On the other end of town, following the news that Lionsgate would (as has become fashionable) split the final novel in their Divergent series, Allegiant, into two feature films, we are faced with an interesting adaptation quandary. I...

This one plays like a greatest hits compilation with all the big names getting a moment or two and is a further improvement over the earlier efforts. Who's in there that you're most looking forward to? Who are you looking for that you haven't seen yet? Check out the trailer below....

Review: HEAVEN IS FOR REAL Is Filmgoing Hell

Posted: 16 Apr 2014 07:00 AM PDT

Eternal paradise is all well and good, but the notion of spending the afterlife floating on clouds while wearing white gowns, halos and playing the harp doesn't thrill people like it used to. Even organized Christianity, a wide swath of society not known for picking up on shifting cultural cues, are keen to this fact. Book studies, Bible studies and a general re-prioritizing of the promises of the afterlife versus the value of focusing upon the here and now have come about, apparently rejiggering deep-set notions of heaven within the church. The new Christian-baiting studio release Heaven Is for Real, starring Greg Kinnear as a small town pastor grappling with what the realities of heaven might be, attempts to key in on this. Meanwhile, Christian films...
