THE MASTER CLEANSE: Anna Friel, Oliver Platt And More Join Fantasy Horror Comedy Posted: 15 Jul 2014 02:30 PM PDT Production on The Master Cleanse, a fantasy horror-comedy from debut writer/director Bobby Miller, got underway in Vancouver, Canada last week, with the addition of several cast members. Johnny Galacki and Anjelica Huston are toplining. New cast members include Anna Friel (TV's Pushing Daisies), who replaces the schedule-conflicted Chloë Sevigny, along with Oliver Platt -- did you see his marvelous performance in TV's Fargo? -- Kyle Gallner, and Kevin J. O'Connor. Here's the official synopsis for the film: After holding onto heartbreak for several years, Paul (Galecki) decides to restart his life, joining a spiritual retreat designed to cleanse negative toxins from his body. But things take a turn when Paul and the other participants discover that the cleanse releases something far greater than everyday toxins... |
Neuchatel 2014: HOUSEBOUND And IT FOLLOWS Win Big Posted: 15 Jul 2014 01:00 PM PDT The Neuchatel International Fantastic Film Festival came to a close last Saturday, and top honors went the Kiwi horror-comedy Housebound. Gerard Johnstone's ferociously inventive update on the haunted house genre won the hearts of Neuchatel jurors and Twitch's own Peter Martin, who wrote: "Housebound quickly tears apart the classic haunted-house movie piece by piece, and then reconstructs it on the fly with fresh new materials, garnished with oodles of blood, dark comedy, strong characters, and genuine suspense. But there was much love to go around. After a heartfelt speech from festival Guest of Honor George R. R. Martin, David Robert Mitchell's John Carpenter-meets-John Hughes-thriller It Follows won two prizes. First was the Denis-de-Rougemont Youth Award, presented by a jury of students, and second, the NIFFF Internation Critics... |

Mathieu Kassovitz Puts On A New Face In French Thriller UN ILLUSTRE INCONNU (AN ILLUSTRIOUS UNKNOWN) Posted: 15 Jul 2014 11:30 AM PDT When was the last time there was a high end thriller based on disguise? I honestly can't recall the last time someone went down this road but French director Matthieu Delaporte has done so with leading man Mathieu Kassovitz in the upcoming Un Illustre Inconnu. Kassovitz plays Sebastien Nicolas, a man who takes on other lives as a form of fantasy - a way of experiencing what it must be like to be someone else. Until one day he is drawn into something sinister. The first teaser for this one has just arrived online and it's glossy, high end stuff. Early yet to know where this will all go, but color me intrigued. Take a look below.... |
Exclusive Interview: Twitch Talks To Michael Pitt and Mike Cahill about I ORIGINS Posted: 15 Jul 2014 11:00 AM PDT I Origins is a big little film, tackling issues of identity and ethics under the rubric of a sci-fi film. Taking the notion of eyes being the windows to the soul to a heightened level, the film blends science and metaphysics to create an interesting hybrid of a thriller and a romance. Twitch had an exclusive conversation in Toronto with the film's director Mike Cahill, along with the lead actor Michael Pitt. The two were energetic and enthusiastic about the project, an enthusiasm that proved infectious. Michael, what brought you to the story? Michael Pitt: I had a general meeting with Mike in Brooklyn, just a meeting of artists. I wanted to meet everyone who was living where I lived who was making things.... |
Trip Out With The US Trailer For Neo-Giallo THE STRANGE COLOR OF YOUR BODY'S TEARS Posted: 15 Jul 2014 10:30 AM PDT American theaters are going to be exposed to a blast of hyper-stylized oddity on August 29th. That would be when Strand Releasing will begin the theatrical run of Amer duo Bruno Frozani and Helene Cattet's sophomore film The Strange Color Of Your Body's Tears and there's plenty of strangeness to go around in this one. From directing duo Hélène Cattet & Bruno Forzani (AMER), comes this homage to the masters of classic Italian Giallo horror. Dan returns home to find his wife is missing. With no signs of struggle or break-in and with no help from the police, Dan's search for answers leads him down a psychosexual rabbit hole. THE STRANGE COLOR OF YOUR BODY'S TEARS is a bloody and taut fantasia of suspense that... |
Exclusive: First Stills From Isaac Ezban's THE SIMILARS (LOS PARECIDOS) Posted: 15 Jul 2014 10:00 AM PDT Isaac Ezban began shooting his second feature length film, The Similars (Los Parecidos), a week ago in Mexico City. It's sci-fi set in a sociopolitical context, as the director revealed to us: "The objective is to make a movie in Mexico that uses science fiction as metaphor, within an important political and social context of the past (1968's Tlatelolco student massacre). Just like with my first film, The Incident (which, by the way, just secured distribution in Mexico through Cine Caníbal), the idea here is to make a science fiction thriller that focuses more on the psychological side. A thriller with sci-fi elements, in which the most important thing are the characters, like in the best The Twilight Zone episodes." The Similars stars Amores Perros' Gustavo... |

Daniel Radcliffe Travels to Hell in First Trailer for HORNS Posted: 15 Jul 2014 09:00 AM PDT Daniel Radcliffe has (more or less) done a good job shedding his Harry Potter image by appearing in some very dark (The Woman in Black) and very funny (A Young Doctor's Notebook) projects that take a lot of narrative and genre risks. And he looks to be continuing that trend, as seen in the first teaser for Alexandre Aja's (The Hills Have Eyes, High Tension) latest film Horns.Radcliffe plays a young man who is the main suspect in his girlfriend's murder. While protesting his innocence, he sprouts a pair of devil-like horns that cause those around him to display the most petty behaviour. Kurt Halfyard saw it at TIFF last year, and had a mixed reaction, though praised the performances. Personally, I'm always intrigued by... |
