Now on Blu-ray: Arrow Video Kills ZOMBIE, LADY SNOWBLOOD, CLASS OF NUKE 'EM HIGH, BLACK SUNDAY & LISA AND THE DEVIL

While I was on hiatus, Arrow Video released a ton of fantastic huge titles on Blu-ray and I'm only beginning to catch up with them. Their output in recent months has somehow managed to raise the bar for cult home video releases and has taken a somewhat sticky reputation and turned it into a massive pile of kudos for titles that are world-beaters. From Italy we get not only Lucio Fulci's magnum opus, Zombie (AKA Zombie Flesh Eaters), but also a trio of Mario Bava classics, including his first directorial efforts, a Tromatic classic in Class of Nuke 'Em High, and a pair of classic chicks-with-swords films in Lady Snowblood 1 & 2. All winners, all worth your money, but here's a little bit more...

Trailer for THE CONJURING Aims To Scare You By Clapping

Posted: 27 Feb 2013 02:00 PM PST

I applaude the framing of the above image taken from James Wan's new horror film, The Conjuring.  Yet the trailer also has the unfortunate side effect of reminding me how much more emotionally attached I was to the children's games in The Orphanage or the 'slow reveal in an empty house' in The Strangers.  Yet Wan certainly earned some fans and goodwill with his last scare-fest, Insidious, to the point where he has brought Patrick Wilson along for the ride again.  Lili Taylor, Vera Farmiga and Mackenzie Foy also star in the 70's set haunted house film involving paranormal investigators, and, well, ghost-clapping....

Action! Thrills! A Pop Song By Sexy Zone! All This And More In Fabulous Full Trailer For KID'S POLICE!

Posted: 27 Feb 2013 01:30 PM PST

Here's the thing about upcoming Japanese action comedy Kid's Police. Based on a television series of the same name it revolves around the central premise of recreating 1970s style, hard boiled Japanese cop thrillers with the goofy twist of having little kids play all the key roles done up in period costume. The big hair, the well tailored suits, the big ass shotguns ... these kids handle them all. It's hystericall funny but the sort of funny you'd expect to wear thin fairly quickly.Except - and here's the thing - the more I see of this, the more I'm convinced they've made an actual movie out of it rather than just delivering a single goofy joke. Much like the recent OSS 117 films the creators...

Poster Alert! Danny Boyle's TRANCE And Nacho Vigalondo's OPEN WINDOWS Sport Some New Artwork

Posted: 27 Feb 2013 01:00 PM PST

Porn starlet Sasha Grey opening her shirt is not exactly an unusual occurrence, which - no doubt - is a significant part of the point in casting her opposite Elijah Wood in Nacho Vigalondo's somewhat voyeuristic Open Windows, a thriller played out entirely through the desktop of Wood's computer. And, true to form, that inherent voyeurism is exactly the hook of the first poster for Vigalondo's latest. As for Trance, the new one from Danny Boyle? All that needs to pique the interest is a profile shot of the great Vincent Cassel.New posters for both pictures are freshly on the scene, check the gallery below for both and remember you can click to enlarge....

Gritty US Trailer For Ron Morales' GRACELAND

Posted: 27 Feb 2013 12:30 PM PST

Twitch has been covering Ron Morales' Filipino thriller Graceland from the very beginning, premiering the first trailer for the film before its world premiere at Tribeca and subsequent festival appearances at Fantasia and Fantastic Fest, among others. And with the US release around the corner a new effort has arrived online, one that focuses on the film's dark core.Family man Marlon Villar is the long-time driver of Manuel Chango, a corrupt Filipino congressman. One afternoon, while driving his and Chango's preteen daughters home from school, the three are violently ambushed in a kidnapping attempt. When the attempt goes horribly awry, the wrong girl is taken, and the driver's life takes a sudden, terrifying turn. Left as the only witness to the crime, Marlon's loyalty is...

Chris Cooper Is Norman Osborn In THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN 2

Posted: 27 Feb 2013 11:33 AM PST

Say what you will about Marc Webb's retooled Spider-Man effort from last summer, the movie was cast extremely well with stars Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone giving some genuine spark to the muddy origin redo. Now the sequel ain't no slouch either in the casting department, making room for Dane DeHaan as Harry Osborn, Shailene Woodley as Mary Jane, Paul Giamatti as The Rhino and Jamie Foxx as Electro. Today you can add to that list Chris Cooper as Oscorp head honcho Norman Osborn, and well... it most certainly appears to be a packed picture. While The Hollywood Reporter (who broke the story) ran with the headline that Cooper would be playing the Green Goblin, it has yet to be determined if he will in...

Danny Trejo Is Out For Blood And Funding For SNAP SHOT

Posted: 27 Feb 2013 11:00 AM PST

Check out this very strange and cool campaign ad with grizzled action and genre star Danny Trejo and director Frankie Latina. Their new project Snap Shot, a noir-ish crime thriller, is hitting the bricks today through the Sundance Institute Artist Services program's curated page on Kickstarter, looking for funding. The proposed film follows a young, ambitious photographer who gets caught in a harrowing labyrinth of intrigue and danger when the "wrong" camera falls into his possession. The devil is truly in the details; and in this case in the 35mm photographs, as sinister wrongdoings frighteningly emerge within the images garnered from the now unfortunate find. Trejo had this to say about his directors previous award winning effort - "Modus Operandi reminded me a lot of working...

Hey, Toronto! Win Tickets To Get Your Suzuki On With TOKYO DRIFTER At The TIFF Bell Lightbox Saturday!

Posted: 27 Feb 2013 10:45 AM PST

Having showcased works by a number of lesser known directors - at least in this part of the world - it's time to break out the big guns at the Twitch curated Tokyo Drifters: 100 Years Of Nikkatsu screening series. Yep, it's time for some Seijun Suzuki, with a rare big screen showing of his classic Tokyo Drifter! The Nikkatsu brass imposed strict budget limitations on Tokyo Drifter as a means to curb director Seijun Suzuki's eccentric tendencies; instead, the renegade director employed his relative lack of resources to push his already bizarre aesthetic even further towards the avant-garde and surreal, creating a pop-art masterpiece that only got him in hotter water with his bosses. (Nikkatsu subsequently punished Suzuki by forcing him to shoot his next...
