First Shots Of Jamie Foxx As Electro In THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN 2

Posted: 17 Apr 2013 04:04 AM PDT

While Marc Webb's The Amazing Spider-Man kept things relatively simple on the villain front, playing things one on one between Spider-Man and The Lizard, things are looking a little more complex for the upcoming sequel. Chris Cooper is on board to play Norman Osborne, for one thing, which lays the groundwork for The Green Goblin. And Paul Giamatti is also in there, as a character believed to be The Rhino. And then there's the principal villain, Electro, as played by Jamie Foxx. There have been at least a couple of significant variations on the Electro over the years and the question thus far has been which we're getting. Question answered. The Daily Mail have published a series of shots from the set of the film that...

Pop Singers! Kung Fu! Glamor Shots! It's THE LEGEND OF TRIO MACAN!

Posted: 17 Apr 2013 04:00 AM PDT

Strange things can happen when pop stars make movies and that's even more true when they do so in a country predisposed towards making some rather strange movies in the first place. Enter Indonesian singers Trio Macan, stars of upcoming kung fu comedy The Legend Of Trio Macan. From what I can tell, the legend mostly revolves around tattoos in revealing - but not too revealing - places, glamor shots, goofy prosthetics and a dose of wire fu. It's all very, very silly but surprisingly polished. Check out the trailer below....

Kurosawa Creates Worlds In Full REAL Trailer

Posted: 17 Apr 2013 03:15 AM PDT

After four years away from feature films - though he did helm the excellent television miniseries Penance last year - Kurosawa Kiyoshi returns to Japanese screens this summer with scifi drama Real (aka A Perfect Day For Plesiosaur). The first teaser for this one was a surprisingly rapid cut affair but a full theatrical trailer has just arrived and I have more than a passing hunch that this effort captures the tone of the film a little better.Koichi and Atsumi are lovers who have known each other all their lives. A year ago, however, a suicide attempt by Atsumi left her in a coma. Through 'sensing', a type of neurosurgical procedure allowing contact with the intentional aspect of a comatose patient's mind, Koishi tries to...

SNOWPIERCER Not Going to Cannes

Posted: 17 Apr 2013 02:30 AM PDT

CJ Entertainment has now confirmed this story and that the global distribution strategy for the film will be decided in mid-May.Very sad to report that it looks like Bong Joon-ho's highly-anticipated sci-fi Snowpiercer will not be going to the Cannes Film Festival this year after all, contrary to what most, including myself, were expecting.Twitch has learnt from a reliable source - who got the news from Bong himself earlier today - that the director is still working on post-production and the film will not be ready for next month's festival. While this news comes as a bit of a shock, I'm glad to hear that Bong hasn't been rushing the final product just to hit the festival's deadline. Now the question is, when will it...

DVD/Blu-ray Review: OBLIVION ISLAND Looks Simply Stunning

Posted: 17 Apr 2013 02:00 AM PDT

(Mirror, mirror on the wall, in one viewing you won't see it all...) In 2009, renowned Japanese anime studio Production I.G. released Oblivion Island: Haruka and the Magic Mirror. Instead of a regular anime, this was an experiment in which the studio tried to create a computer-animated film in the style of Pixar. A few years back, I saw a theatrical screening of the film at the Imagine Film Festival in Amsterdam, and while I wasn't all that much taken with the story, I was definitely impressed with the rich designs and spectacular action. Earlier this month, Manga UK released Oblivion Island on Blu-ray and DVD. How does the film hold up on repeat viewing at home? Time for a second look... The Story: (I'll...

Jang Chul-soo's BEDEVILLED Follow-up SECRETLY, GREATLY Gets a Teaser

Posted: 16 Apr 2013 11:00 PM PDT

Korean director Jang Chul-soo made a huge splash on the international film scene three years with the release of his sensational debut Bedevilled and he's finally returned with his follow-up. Secretly, Greatly, a story of three young North Korean agents who go undercover as teenagers in the South, has just released its first teaser.Jang's sophomore feature looks to be a big change of pace for him. He got his start as an assistant director to Kim Di-duk and his first film was a dark genre pic with arthouse sensibilities. Secretly, Greatly, which looks to be a comedy, drama and thriller, sees him making the big jump to the commercial mainstream. While I don't expect something as unique as his previous effort, I hope he is able to transfer his...

Spectacular New MAN OF STEEL Trailer Drops

Posted: 16 Apr 2013 07:16 PM PDT

Though many have been skeptical about the Zack Snyder Superman reboot, a spectacular new trailer should help convert many skeptics, of which I have been one since the project was announced. The feel is epic and the visuals are tantalizing but most importantly it looks like Snyder and producer Christopher Nolan are putting the weight of the film on its story and its characters, performed by a stellar cast which includes Russell Crowe, Michael Shannon, Kevin Costner, Amy Adam and Henry Cavill as the Man of Steel. We get a good look at everyone in action although I still want to see more of Shannon, on board as the foul-tempered villain General Zod.Man of Steel promises to be very stirring big screen entertainment. Roll on June 14th!...

Watch: New Trailer for THE KINGS OF SUMMER is Funny, But Needs More Pizazz and Biaggio

Posted: 16 Apr 2013 04:01 PM PDT

This year's standout at the Sundance Film Festival was undeniably Jordan Vogt-Roberts' movie with a giant beating heart, The Kings of Summer. I called it "An unforgettable coming-of-age comedy," and decided after walking out from seeing it that it'll make my Top 10 Films of 2013. The film opens on May 31 and CBS Films, the distribution company that picked up the film at the 'Dance, has been rolling out teaser posters and trailers, and we now get our first full-length trailer, courtesy of Apple. While it didn't give the viewer much regarding plot, the first teaser really captured the heart of The Kings of Summer - the offbeat friendship between our defiant boys in the film. The full trailer does circle in on that as well (and gives...

Hollywood Beat: Tom Cruise and Joseph Kosinski Talk OBLIVION Via Satellite And In IMAX

Posted: 16 Apr 2013 02:00 PM PDT

"I was scared shitless," Tom Cruise said. "Is it OK if I curse? This isn't television, right?" he confirmed. Beaming, he repeated himself. "I was scared shitless!" Cruise and director Joseph Kosinski participated in a question-and-answer session after a screening of Oblivion in New York last night that was broadcast live via satellite to nine other cities in the U.S. and was also available on the internet, as part of the Los Angeles Times Hero Complex screening series. Rebecca Keegan hosted, with the majority of the questions arriving via Twitter. Oblivion looks and sounds spectacular in a giant-sized IMAX theater, and the packed auditorium 'oohed' and 'aahed' in all the right places. Whatever else its merits as a film, Oblivion satisfies as a visual and...

Tribeca 2013 Preview: Special Screenings And Shorts

Posted: 16 Apr 2013 12:00 PM PDT

With less than 24 hours until Tribeca kicks off, we're back again with another preview of this year's fest. Yesterday I laid eyes on a few fine looking flicks in the Gala and Midnight sections, this morning Ryland told you what was what in the World Documentary and World Narrative Competitions and right now we're both gonna tell you what's so special about the Special Screenings and then I'll take a look at the fest's Shorts Programming.Special ScreeningsALBERIThis video installation piece running at MoMA's PS1 looks at a strange and ancient ritual the men of Satriano, Italy once partook in: they would cover themselves in ivy, effectively becoming arboreal ghost men. If the above screenshot doesn't sell you, maybe the admission price will as this...

Magic New Poster for Aussie-Indian Film MY CORNERSTONE

Posted: 16 Apr 2013 11:30 AM PDT

I've never paid much attention to Bollywood-style movies aimed at the Indian market until this past year, when I started reading J Hurtado's reviews here at Twitch (shout-out to Eega). So it's with a little excitement that I saw the poster for Aussie Indian film My Cornerstone, as I knew I could share it here with an already attuned audience.Written by enterprising actor James Morcan (the dashing gent in the poster) and directed by Stanley Joseph, My Cornerstone appears to be three movies in one. The poster suggests everything from magic (sorry, illusions) to clones, while the official synopsis suggests a drama:A young Indian nurse moves to Sydney where she's placed in the household of a wealthy Indian-Australian family and given the task of caring for an elderly lady.Meanwhile, the film's...

Posted: 16 Apr 2013 08:00 AM PDT

It's Tribeca time again as the film fest kicks off tomorrow in typical New York fashion with The National rock-doc Mistaken for Strangers. We took a look at that film, the other galas, and the midnight lineup yesterday -- and today we turn our attention to the documentary and narrative competitions. The documentary competition specifically has become a real focus for Tribeca in recent years. Here are a few films in each of those sections that caught our eye. World Documentary Competition MICHAEL H. PROFESSION: DIRECTOR Prolific behind-the-scenes documentarian Yves Montmayeur takes a look at the man, the myth, the legend, and the twitter account of director Michael Haneke. TEENAGE Based on a book by Jon Savage and narrated by Jena Malone, Ben Whishaw,...
