Thanks to Madman Entertainment, Twitch has 5 copies of the complete series of ultra dark and violent anime Blood-C.Horrifying beasts with a hunger for human flesh prey on the citizens of a quiet town. In moonlit twilight, Saya slays the monsters and returns home drenched in blood. As the attacks increase in frequency and intensity, her enemies relay cryptic messages about a broken contract. Limbs are torn from flesh and skulls are crushed and devoured while the huntress struggles with paralyzing visions and gaping holes in her memory. When the humans Saya promised to protect reveal the sickening truth about her role in the violence, she learns her mission isn't as clear cut as she thought - and her most sadistic foe of all is so...

Madman's REEL ANIME 2013 Line-up Will Include 009 RE: CYBORG In 3D

Posted: 21 Apr 2013 07:31 PM PDT

At the Gold Coast Supanova Pop Culture Expo this weekend, Madman announced that the second film in the line-up for this year's REEL ANIME Festival is 009 Re: Cyborg from director Kamiyama Kenji (Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex, Eden of the East), and it will be screened in stereoscopic 3D. The film will join the previously announced Evangelion: 3.0 You Can (Not) Redo in the festival's 4-film program. In other words, there are still two other films to be announced, and my predictions are Berserk The Golden Arc 2: The Battle for Doldrey together with The Garden of Words from director Shinkai Makoto, whose Children Who Chase Lost Voices featured in last year's REEL ANIME. I would actually absolutely love to see the two...

JOHN DOE Trailer Reveals Jamie Bamber as Vigilante Serial Killer

Posted: 21 Apr 2013 06:30 PM PDT

Not many non-Australian actors can do an Aussie accent. Most, like Quentin Tarantino in Django Unchained, maul it so horribly that it becomes comedy to us antipodean listeners. However the tide seems to be turning, slowly. Liev Schreiber (helpfully dating dialogue coach Naomi Watts) reportedly delivered a flawless Aussie accent in Mental and now Jamie Bamber absolutely nails it in the new trailer for John Doe. That's not all he nails. Apparently Bamber plays some kind of serial killer, bringing vigilante justice to criminals who haven't yet paid their debts to society. Judging by the trailer, he inspires some kind of V for Vendetta style revolution with masked followers, although he himself is caught and interviewed by a stern-bearded Lachy Hulme. No word as to a release...

Review: EK THI DAAYAN Is Better Than It Deserves To Be

Posted: 21 Apr 2013 11:01 AM PDT

It's been a strange few years for Bollywood's kissing bandit, Emraan Hashmi. The actor became prominent in the last decade for his willingness to plant his lips on anything that moved on screen, an action still not entirely common in Hindi films. Some might say that he's helped push Hindi cinema into the 21st century with his progressive take on personal relationships. It hasn't helped, though, that the films in which he's plied his trade are mostly B- and C-grade schlock, at least until recently. Over the last couple of years, Hashmi has made a serious turn toward earning respect in films like The Dirty Picture and especially last year's Shanghai, in which he was absolutely fantastic. However, in the time since that film he's made...

Review: HEMLOCK GROVE S1E01-13 (Or, Blood, Intestines, and Vomit Instead of Story, Characters, and Horror)

Posted: 21 Apr 2013 09:59 AM PDT

Netflix took a big step forward with House of Cards and now takes two steps backward with Hemlock Grove. Rather than binge viewing, Hemlock Grove inspires binge drinking. As with House of Cards, all 13 episodes of Hemlock Grove debuted on Netflix on the same day, empowering the viewer to watch the entire season in one go. In the case of Hemlock Grove, that's not a good thing, because its faults and limitations become more apparent when seen over a short period of time, rather than week by week over a period of months. There is no great mystery that demands a solution, and whatever suspense there might be is handled clumsily. The actors do their best, given that they are asked to deliver dialogue...

Now on Blu-ray in Australia: PUELLA MAGI MADOKA MAGICA is a Magical Magical Girl Anime

Posted: 21 Apr 2013 08:00 AM PDT

The anime Puella Magi Madoka Magica belongs to the magical girl genre, where girls become magically transformed into costumed super-heroines who fight against evil. This brief description is probably all you need to know about the plot of the show, because disclosing any more details may spoil some of your enjoyment of this entertaining series. And if the mention of this particular genre brings back memories of the Sailor Moon series from the 1990s, be assured that Puella Magi Madoka Magica is different, and better. The complex story of Puella Magi Madoka Magica is told with a lot of skill. It is so well structured that most viewers will get hooked from an early part of the anime. The first two and a half episodes are...

Korean Box Office: Just Hanging Around - Holdovers Repeat During Slow Weekend

Posted: 20 Apr 2013 11:00 PM PDT

With no new releases able to catch fire this week, box office was down significantly. With only 1.2 million admissions, this was the lowest attended weekend of the year to date by a margin. Local films, of which there are a number playing, were just shy of a majority with a 48% market share. With spring finally arriving in Korea after a particularly long winter, locals were keener to go outside and see the cherry blossoms than to venture into a dark theater.
