The RESOLUTION Boys Go Deep Sea Diving, Guerrilla Style

Posted: 03 Apr 2013 03:30 PM PDT

In preparation for their trip to the Imagine Film Festival in Amsterdam next week, The gentlemen behind Resolution, one of our favorite smart horror subversions of the past years, have taken to some most dire of straights to make sure their film will play "properly" for the audiences in the land of windmills and canals. I'm not sure how many lives co-director Justin Benson has, but shit, it has gotta be over nine at this point. That man is a post-cat-super-aquatic-human-something-something-extraordinaire. Take a gander at the video below. And for those of you that reside in the US and have yet to see Resolution, it's currently available to rent on iTunes.   ...

Bollywood Superhero KRRISH Headed For The Small Screen In New Animated Films Due This Summer

Posted: 03 Apr 2013 03:00 PM PDT

Cartoon Network India announced overnight that it is partnering with Rakesh Roshan to create a new series of animated features starring one of Bollywood's most recognizable homegrown superheros, Krrish. The character originates from a pair of films from the early 2000's, played by Hrithik Roshan in films directed by his father Rakesh. Krrish is often regarded as the first modern superhero film from Bollywood designed to compete at the multiplex with western films. The deal should see Cartoon Network airing four features starring Krrish starting in July. That sounds like a quick turnaround to me, but presumably they've been working hot and heavy on these for a while. These films are being aired to coincide with the Diwali release of Krrish 3 (a confusing title, since...

Hey, London! Get Crazy with NIGHT OF THE TRAILERS and GET CRAZY!

Posted: 03 Apr 2013 02:30 PM PDT

While I have learned to put up with people talking during trailers, I still don't like it. I want to see and hear about the great movies that are coming out. And I know many people who love to look at old commercials that have found their way onto YouTube. So why not make a night of it, of trailers and ads, and throw in strange 80s music comedy Get Crazy starring Daniel Stern, Malcolm McDowell and Lou Reed? This is all happening next Wednesday, April 10th, at the Prince Charles Cinema in Leicester Square. Details and a trailer for the trailers below: 96 Normal 0 false false false EN-US JA X-NONE /* Style Definitions */ table.MsoNormalTable {mso-style-name:"Table Normal"; mso-tstyle-rowband-size:0; mso-tstyle-colband-size:0; mso-style-noshow:yes; mso-style-priority:99; mso-style-parent:""; mso-padding-alt:0cm 5.4pt...

Hey, Toronto! The Twitch Presented Tokyo Drifters Retrospective Wraps This Week With THE WARPED ONES!

Posted: 03 Apr 2013 01:00 PM PDT

All good things must come to an end and the Twitch curated Tokyo Drifters: 100 Years Of Nikkatsu series does exactly that on Saturday with the screening of the final film in the series: Kurahara Koreyoshi's blast of nihilistic energy, The Warped Ones.Given the measured pace and dreamlike atmosphere of Koreyoshi Kurahara's previous film The Woman from the Sea (also screening in this series), it's hard to believe that the brash, abrasive and kinetic The Warped Ones could possibly have been made by the same director, but Kurahara's career is marked by such drastic shifts in genre, style and tone. An aimless-youth film pushed to extremes, The Warped Ones follows a trio of petty criminals freshly released from jail as they swagger through the streets...

Interview: Shane Carruth Talks UPSTREAM COLOR

Posted: 03 Apr 2013 10:00 AM PDT

Interviewing Shane Carruth is just as complex as watching his movies, and rightfully so. After his feature film Primer released, he gained all kinds of buzz and had movie geeks (and large studios) foaming at the mouth. Instead of giving in to the Hollywood system, he vanished, and didn't return until nine years later with his sophomore followup, Upstream Color, which had its world premiere at the Sundance Film Festival back in January. I interviewed Carruth at Sundance, but held off on posting to coincide with the film's release. Twitch's Festivals Editor Ryland Aldrich also spoke to the man while at Sundance, but they discussed the numbers game (i.e., distribution) - give it a read. It calculates what the self-distribution process is like. Below is my...

Jason Gorber's Cineruminations: Ebert's Presence, aka Roger and Me

Posted: 03 Apr 2013 09:30 AM PDT

Roger Ebert announced late last night what many had feared - his so-called "hip surgery" that resulted in an unusual respite from his torrent of tweets proved to be in fact a recurrence of cancer, the same disease that helped ravage his jaw and left him unable to speak.Typically, I write over 200 reviews a year for the Sun-Times that are carried by Universal Press Syndicate in some 200 newspapers. Last year, I wrote the most of my career, including 306 movie reviews, a blog post or two a week, and assorted other articles. I must slow down now, which is why I'm taking what I like to call "a leave of presence."What in the world is a leave of presence? It means I am...

Who Is Will Arnett Playing In TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES?

Posted: 03 Apr 2013 09:00 AM PDT

We know he's not Casey Jones but that's about all we know about Will Arnett's role in the upcoming Michael Bay produced / Jonathan Liebesman directed live action version of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. The Hollywood Reporter brings word that Arrested Development star Arnett has joined Megan Fox in a leading part but everyone is being mum as to what his role will actually be. The four turtles - or, at least, the people who will be providing mo-cap services for them - have already been cast by a quarter of general unknowns (Alan Ritchson, Pete Ploszek, Jeremy Howard and Noel Fisher) and I can't imagine that he's either Splinter or Shredder, unless they're going super goofy in tone. And THR says definitively that he...

St Kilda Film Festival Partners With SXSW

Posted: 03 Apr 2013 08:32 AM PDT

Australia's greatest short film festival, the St Kilda Film Festival, is gearing up for 2013 and in preparation has announced that this year it will partner with the SXSW Film Festival to deliver several sidebar programs of incredible awesomeness and power. I'm paraphrasing but that's the general drift.Claudette Godfrey, the SXSW shorts programmer, will curate four programs for St Kilda in 2013: two best-of selections, and programs devoted to Texas shorts and music videos. SXSW has been a great supporter of Australian music videos over the past few years and this latter program in particular should be a great accompaniment to the already brilliant SoundKILDA sidebar. Godfrey will also attend the festival, which runs from May 23 to June 1, 2013 at the Astor Theatre (pictured...

Nicolas Bro And Pilou Asbaek Unrecognizable In First Shots From Christoffer Boe's SEX, DRUGS & TAXATION

Posted: 03 Apr 2013 07:30 AM PDT

A long time favorite here at Twitch, director Christoffer Boe is taking a sharp turn into some different territory with his next film and he's taking a pair of our favorite actors - Nicolas Bro and Pilou Asbaek - with him.Having built his name with a string of pictures that fuse arthouse and genre sensibilities, Boe's latest - titled Sex, Drugs and Taxation - moves into biopic territory, charting the friendship of a famous Danish politician and businessman. The true story about the spectacular friendship between two notorious and provocative Danes: the eccentric lawyer-turned-politician Mogens Glistrup, and the "travel king", millionaire, womanizer and public provocateur, Simon Spies.
