Live Action RUROUNI KENSHIN To Become A Trilogy Posted: 29 Jun 2013 11:30 PM PDT Rurouni Kenshin, one of the most popular anime and manga series ever, had its successful adaptation into a live action feature film last year. The film directed by Ōtomo Keishi, which opened in Japan last August, was a critical and commercial success. It starred Satoh Takeru (Kamen Rider Den-O, Beck) as Himura Kenshin and Takei Emi (For Love's Sake / Ai to Makoto) as the heroine Kamiya Kaoru.Announcements have just been made that two more live action films will be added to the film series and production will begin next summer. The new films will cover the fan-favorite Kyoto arc of the manga, specifically the Great Kyoto Fire and Legend's End storylines. Satoh will be reprising his role as Kenshin. ... Full Disclosure: Twitch's Lists of Shame - June Posted: 29 Jun 2013 10:00 PM PDT Welcome to Full Disclosure, in which Team Twitch confesses to the classics that they have never seen, then remedies the situation by casting fresh eyes on those films for the very first time. For June we are mixing up the format a little bit, presenting our selections in a more easily digestible gallery format, if for no other reason than to include everyone's submissions in a single post. But make no mistake, this month is as chock full of cinematic gems as ever: Roman Polanski's Chinatown is tackled by three of our collective, Andrei Tarkovsky's Andrei Rublev gets a serious grilling, we also have films from the likes of Wong Kar Wai, Charlie Chaplin and even Bruce Lee being savoured as never before. So simply click... [Read the whole post on twitchfilm.com...] |

NYAFF 2013 Review: EUNGYO, An Erotically-Charged Tale of Aging and Artistic Inspiration Posted: 29 Jun 2013 02:00 PM PDT Jung Ji-woo's fourth feature Eungyo (aka A Muse) has as its basis the salacious premise of a relationship between a 70 year-old man and a 17 year-old girl, which for obvious reasons proved quite controversial upon its release last year in Korea. Also thrown into the mix is a love triangle, the third side of which is formed by the young man being mentored by this older father figure. Adapting his film from Park Bum-shin's (also very controversial) novel of the same name, Jung spins this into a visually beautiful exploration of sexual desire, aging, and artistic inspiration that is often compelling despite its narrative and tonal miscalculations. Eungyo's greatest attraction is the quietly stunning breakout performance by young actress Kim Go-eun, a first-timer making... [Read the whole post on twitchfilm.com...] |
Guillermo Del Toro And Part Of The PACIFIC RIM Cast To Visit Mexico Posted: 29 Jun 2013 01:00 PM PDT I watched Pacific Rim on June 27 but signed the embargo and can't say anything about it until July 8. But here's what I can say (and I'm quite happy to do it): director Guillermo del Toro is set to visit his home country, Mexico, on Monday, July 1. He won't be alone as actors Idris Elba, Rinko Kukuchi, Charlie Day and (del Toro's favorite) Ron Perlman are also making the trip. Elba and Kukuchi play main roles in the film, while Day and Perlman have less screen time. The protagonist, Charlie Hunnam, is not coming. The schedule says they will meet with the Mexican press first to later spend some time with their fans. There's going to be a photocall and a press conference... Now on Blu-ray: THE LAST STAND Falls Flat On Its Back Posted: 29 Jun 2013 12:00 PM PDT While most of the movie loving world was waiting with bated breath for the return of the king of '80s action - that'd be Arnold Schwarzenegger - in The Last Stand, there were a few of us diehards eagerly awaiting the new Kim Ji-woon movie. Unfortunately, they ended up being the same project and neither one lived up to its potential. The Last Stand is disappointingly pedestrian in its new-fangled approach to action. There was nothing in the film that I couldn't have found in any given Jason Statham film, except, of course, for the big guy leading the charge. For me, Schwarzenegger was just not enough to make this film - seemingly hobbled by studio expectations - exciting or entertaining.I don't share the enthusiasm... The Trailer For THE CONJURING Gives Me The Creeps Posted: 29 Jun 2013 11:15 AM PDT In many ways James Wan has been the victim of his own success. Though he never returned to the world of Saw after the enormously successful first installment it seems as though Wan lived in the shadow of that initial success up until he hit similar paydirt with Insidious. And now that he's proven himself more than a one trick pony the world is becoming Wan's oyster, the director already at the helm of the upcoming Fast 7 and other studio projects knocking. But before we get to that there's the small matter of The Conjuring ...Before there was Amityville, there was Harrisville. Based on a true story, "The Conjuring" tells the horrifying tale of how world renowned paranormal investigators Ed and Lorraine Warren were... [Read the whole post on twitchfilm.com...] |
