Third Window Films Goes Back To Korea With BOOMERANG FAMILY And HOW TO USE GUYS WITH SECRET TIPS In 2014

In our original profile of the UK's Third Window Films, I addressed the lack of Korean releases and asked founder Adam Torel why this happened. He responded:I moved away from the Korean film scene as I felt it was moving away from my own tastes. I got into Korean cinema around 1999/2000 and thought my favourite year was 2001 where many great genre-mix-up films were released. I loved Korean cinema as I felt they were making their films for the Korean market and the tastes of their audience, but as Korean cinema became more and more popular in the West and Japan they started to make too many films for other markets. We at Twitch are thus happy to announce that Third Window films will give...

Blu-ray Review: DUSK MAIDEN OF AMNESIA Entertainingly Blends Horror, Comedy and Romance

Posted: 30 Jun 2013 08:00 PM PDT

Horror is one of the most popular genres in Japanese cinema, manga and anime. Images of Sadako from The Ring should still be vivid in many people's minds. While not particularly scary, the high school horror anime series Dusk Maiden Of Amnesia introduces and explores some interesting concepts related to the genre, such as the idea that how the living experiences a ghostly spirit is driven by one's own impressions of it. In addition, this anime also has other elements of comedy and romance that together offer an enjoyable viewing experience. Dusk Maiden Of Amnesia is not for children. Besides the horror element, its main character Yuuko is a sexy ghost who likes undressing and being touched. Her romantic interest, Niiya, is a timid first year student...

Films From Chile, Argentina and Cuba Among The Winners of FIDOCS 2013

Posted: 30 Jun 2013 07:00 PM PDT

The week went by and FIDOCS happened, and while there's still some movies that I plan to review, the festival is over and it was a cinema party, as always. With more than 90 films playing for six days, the organizers always had in mind that people should have the opportunity to see every movie they wanted to see. And so, this past Saturday evening, the winners of all the competitions were awarded. The most important winner is the one of the Chilean Competition; the prize was given to El otro día (The Other Day), directed by famed Chilean documentary director Ignacio Agüero (El diario de Agustín, Cien niños esperando un tren).Last year I had the chance to see the winning film, thanks to a friend,...

Jim Kelly, Known For ENTER THE DRAGON, Dead At 67

Posted: 30 Jun 2013 05:32 PM PDT

Jim Kelly, an International Karate champion and Bruce Lee's co-star in the seminal martial arts flick Enter the Dragon, died yesterday. Though there has been no official report of his death and the circumstances surrounding it have not been released, the announcement came via a post by his ex-wife, Marilyn Dishman, on her Facebook page. He was 67 years old. Kelly rose to stardom when he appeared alongside Bruce Lee and John Saxon in the 1973 Warner Bros. martial arts film. From there he went on to star in a handful of blaxploitation films, such as Three the Hard Way, Black Belt Jones, and Black Samurai. He seldom worked in film after the early 80s and went on to become a professional tennis coach in Southern California. Though his appearances in film...

FrightFest To Screen CANNON FODDER the First Israeli Zombie Film

Posted: 30 Jun 2013 07:30 AM PDT

Israel takes one bloodthirsty step further into genre filmmaking, with the FrightFest announcement that the festival will feature not only one Israeli film, but two.The first one is the much talked about thriller Big Bad Wolves by Aharon Keshales and Navot Papushado. And now we find out that the festival will also screen Cannon Fodder, which is officially Israel's first full length zombie film. For a country that just three years ago had practically zero genre films, two in the same festival is quite the leap.Cannon Fodder is an independent action horror film directed by Eitan Gafny, which has already toured more than a few international festivals, but only now lands its first major one. The movie takes a fun poke at the basic "Israeli...
