Take An Outsider's Look At Outsider Faith With Aram Garriga's AMERICAN JESUS Posted: 14 Oct 2013 04:00 AM PDT One of the more intriguing titles in this year's Sitges Film Festival, American Jesus sees Barcelona based director Aram Garriga team with producer - and American indie icon - Larry Fessenden for a study of outsider faith in America. A look at those streams of Christianity that exist outside the mainstream - from the curiosities of the Cowboy Church to extreme charismatic snake handlers to elements that may be considered more insidious - Garriga provides an utterly compelling, remarkably balanced look at extreme faith in America.AMERICAN JESUS is an exploration of Christianity in every faction of American Life, from the breadline to the yoga studio, from the humble churches of snake handlers to the mega churches in the ex-urbs. Christian cowboys, bikers and musicians, comedians,... |
MORBIDO 2013: GRAND PIANO, CHIMERES And THE COMPLEX Among First Wave Of Titles! Posted: 14 Oct 2013 03:00 AM PDT In a month's time the Morbido International Horror and Fantasy Film Festival will descend upon the colonial town of Pátzcuaro, Mexico, for its sixth edition. The first wave of titles have been announced and as always there will be an excellent selection of international titles and a lot of Latin American talent on display. And we will be at the festival again this year bringing you updates throughout that weekend. Familiar international titles will include Eugenio Mira's Grand Piano, starring Elijah Wood. Richard Raaphorst's Frankenstein's Army will give festival director Pablo Guisa Koestinger a reason to dust off that uniform he wore for last year's screening of Iron Sky. Swiss vampire flick Chimères looks to take a bite out of the audience. And another familiar international... |
Warsaw 2013 Review: EXIT MARRAKECH And A Life Changing Journey Into The Wild Posted: 13 Oct 2013 08:30 PM PDT A long-distance trip into the unknown can sometimes turn out to be a true eye-opener, either a good one or a bad one, depending on the approach of the traveller and the risk he decides to take in order to make the most out of that fascinating journey. I've always thought that the best way to experience a far-flung place is to skip all the must-see tourist destinations and explore it alternatively on foot, without a map, walking casually on the streets, whether day or night, in order to get acquainted with the local vibe through the process of constant improvisation. While many people might be scared off by that idea, this is probably the easiest and the best way to get to know one's... |
70s Rewind: Brian De Palma's CARRIE, In Pictures And Posters Posted: 13 Oct 2013 07:00 PM PDT A touchstone for modern horror, Brian De Palma's Carrie remains a brutal and brutish look at the ultimate outsider: a teenage girl who can move things with her mind. Stephen King's first published novel, released in April 1974, reportedly sold 13,000 copies. The paperback edition, arriving one year later, sold more than a million copies, and caught the attention of De Palma. Lawrence D. Cohen is credited with the screenplay, which follows the spine of the novel. Among the minor changes: Ewen High School becomes Bates High School. Click on the picture in the gallery below to get started. The original trailer -- which misspells King's first name! -- can be found under the final image in the gallery. 70s Rewind is a column about... |
Behold: A Few Peeks At The Production Of Mutant Wasp Feature STUNG Posted: 13 Oct 2013 06:30 PM PDT In a few weeks, the mutant wasp creature feature Stung will start its principal photography. Through a series of production video-blogs, producer Benjamin Munz and director Benni Diez plan to document the entire process for those who are interested. The first two blogs can be found on YouTube and we have posted them here. In the film itself, mayhem ensues when a garden party gets attacked by giant wasps. Matt O´Leary, Jessica Cook, Peter Stormare and Lance Henriksen star. A special effects test, released last year, was damn effective and reason enough to keep an eye on this film. Truth be told, at this point the two Bennies are only goofing around a bit in these blogs, but you actually do get a few peeks... |
