A Trio Of AMAZING SPIDER-MAN 2 Big Game Spots Posted: 02 Feb 2014 07:30 PM PST Sony has gone all out this Super Bowl and released three different adverts; a new trailer, and two spots for The Amazing Spider-Man 2. It is in the two spots that feature what could very well be hints at the scenes of the death of Gwen Stacey. Her death being the most talked about and most speculated part of this upcoming chapter in the Spider-Man franchise. And the latest full trailer features a lot of the genesis of Jamie Foxx's character, Max, into the villain Electro. And I gotta say. I really am starting to like Andrew Garfield in this. I dunno. I could be man-crushing here, but he has an undeniable charm in this role. The Amazing Spider-Man 2 opens in cinemas on May 2. ... |

Report: Actor Philip Seymour Hoffman, 46, Has Died Posted: 02 Feb 2014 10:50 AM PST The Wall Street Journal is reporting that actor Philip Seymour Hoffman, 46, was found dead in his New York City apartment this afternoon. The report states: "The New York Police Department is investigating, and the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner to determine exact cause of death." The actor won an Academy Award for his performance in Capote, and was nominated three more times, for Charlie Wilson's War, Doubt, and, most recently, for Paul Thomas Anderson's The Master. UPDATE 1: Added commentary below. Philip Seymour Hoffman was the quietest giant in independent cinema. He'd almost effortlessly take over a film be it in the form of a quirky character part or as the lead in a series of compelling and often challenging works. For years,... |
Sundance 2014 Dispatch: GREEN PRINCE and A MOST WANTED MAN Posted: 02 Feb 2014 09:00 AM PST Festivals are funny things. You're seeing loads of films all at once, a kind of gorging that only happens sporadically throughout the year. Often you get inadvertent connections between films, thematic consistency that otherwise might go unnoticed. Sometimes these connections may be a stretch - a line of dialogue that echoes with familiarity, or the same performer in multiple parts.Yet two films at Sundance this year occupy similar kinds of moral space. The fact that one is a documentary, and one a fiction film based on a novel written soon after 9/11, makes the connection in some ways even more remarkable.Green Prince tells the story of a unique connection between two men. Mosab Hassan Yousef is the son of one of the founders of the... |
