| Cinematik 2014 Unveils An Eclectic, Electric Line-Up Of European Cinema Posted: 01 Sep 2014 02:30 AM PDT  The 9th edition of the Slovak film festival, Cinematik will kick off September 10 in the well-known spa town of Piešťany, with The Giver, the adaption of Louis Lowry´s book, produced by and starring Jeff Bridges in the title role. Despite the festival´s relatively young age, Cinematik has been growing very fast from year to year, while retaining its informal atmosphere. The ever expanding programming focuses primary on European and Slovak cinema, although films from other corners of the world are not being omitted. The international competition, Meeting Point Europe, boasts European titles picked by film critics from 17 European countries. | Macabro 2014: DARKNESS BY DAY Wins Best Film Award Posted: 31 Aug 2014 05:00 PM PDT  The closing ceremony of Macabro 2014 was held on Saturday, August 30 at Mexico City's Cineteca Nacional. The festival's director Edna Campos conducted the event prior to the start of the closing film, Asmodexia. Macabro awarded only one feature length film and several shorts during this night. The big winner was Argentina's Darkness by Day (El Día Trajo la Oscuridad), which I reviewed during Fantaspoa.
