PREDATOR: Shane Black Attached To Another Attempt At Reviving The Franchise

Posted: 24 Jun 2014 10:00 PM PDT

You know, I read this announcement from THR today about another Predator reboot and my mind immediately went to that scene in Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me where he says, 'Why won't you die?!?'. Hollywood just has not had it's fill of the alien game hunter so they are at it again. This time around, Shane Black, the director of Iron Man 3 and writer of Lethal Weapon (the franchise was kind of a bid deal in the late 80s and early 90s) is attached to the reboot. This is also the same guy who wrote The Last Action Hero (not so much of a big deal in the early 90s). You will note from the picture above that Black has a connection with...

The Full Trailer For TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES Knows It Is Dumb

Posted: 24 Jun 2014 06:30 PM PDT

Most iterations of our heroes in a half shell have played into the often ridiculous nature of the property. In fact, there was a cute self-awareness to the 80s/90s cartoon well before meta fiction was a part of the pop culture lexicon. Up to this point, the often vague and lackluster marketing materials for the Michael Bay produced live-action reboot at least seemed to be saying that it was going to be hella serious.  Yes, it appeared to be a film that was going to eschew the zanier side of the material for something more Nolan-esque. Albeit a very bland and generic Nolan-esque something something. But now you can turn that frown upside down (maybe?), because a full trailer for the film is finally here...

Mayhem in Switzerland! Neuchatel Announces Full Festival Line-up

Posted: 24 Jun 2014 11:30 AM PDT

The Neuchâtel International Fantastic Film Festival heads into its 14th edition this July, and unlike any of us, it is gliding into adolescence with remarkable style. We've already reported that festival Guest of Honor will be former Beauty and the Beast writer George R. R. Martin (what has he done since then?), but today we have the pleasure to announce the full festival lineup, and boy is it a doozy. Joining Martin at the lakeside festival is indie staple and newfound horrormeister Kevin Smith, who will be feted with a special tribute, and will be screening his own work and some of his favorite films. The International Competition reunites two of our very favorite films out of Cannes, David Robert Mitchell's spookily inventive It...

Interview: David Michôd Talks THE ROVER, Robert Pattinson, BREAKFAST CLUB, And More

Posted: 24 Jun 2014 11:00 AM PDT

After the kinetic, Scorcese-like Animal Kingdom, David Michôd's sophomore effort takes a very different tack. Set in a desiccated Australia, post some sort of apocalypse that seems to inevitably befall the country/continent on screen. After screening the film at this year's Cannes film festival (and giving it a positive review), I had the pleasure of speaking with Michôd (pronounced with "no 'd' at the end") by phone exclusively for Twitch. We began by discussing the somewhat ambivalent reception the film had during its midnight screening on the Croisette. How was it showing The Rover to the Cannes audience? [It was] pretty overwhelming. In a strange way, I can't even really remember what emotional state I was in when that was happening because that state...

Review: YVES SAINT LAURENT Is Saved by Lead Performance

Posted: 24 Jun 2014 07:00 AM PDT

There are two biopics out this year on Yves Saint Laurent, the iconic French women's fashion designer. Considering his importance in French fashion culture, this is probably not surprising (at least that there might be more than one film about him; two in one year is likely just a coincidence). The first one to be released is based on the biography by Laurence Benaim and directed by Jalil Lespart (most of whose work is in acting). Anyone with an interest in fashion will likely be drawn to the wonderful renditions of his early work; anyone looking for an interesting story will probably be disappointed.I'm hoping the next one (by Bertrand Bonello, a more experienced director) might be a bit more, well, interesting. While not boring per...
