Film 4 FrightFest has wrapped for another year and the winners of a multitude of awards were announced yesterday (Tuesday August 26). Everything starts off okay with The Babadook winning Best Film from the films shown on the Main Screen and Coherence winning Best Film on the Discovery Screen. Then the list begins to degrade, little by little, until it is downright silly. The list of awards eventually involve the male genitalia. Twice. I kid you not. Do you dare read the complete list knowing that somewhere on it is the category Best Penis Trauma? Congrats to all the winners!Best Film (Main screens) NominationsAlleluiaThe BabadookFaultsThe GuestHouseboundLate PhasesLife After BethThe SamuraiThe SignalStarry Eyes And the winner is...The Babadook                          ...

Forget BATMAN V SUPERMAN, This Is DEAR V/S BEAR! Bollywood Gone Bonkers!

Posted: 26 Aug 2014 08:30 PM PDT

Holy shit.Uttar Kumar's Dear V/s Bear looks like some next-level nonsense, scheduled to hit Indian cinema screens this September.I know almost nothing about the film, but here's what I can share.(a) The poster features what appears to be grizzly bear fighting a soccer ball while a handsome hero rescues a damsel in distress from a flying news van while laying in a bed of lava being chased by a separate group of grizzlies, all while being lorded over by a team of cops and/or gangsters.(b) You actually get to see the soccer ball vs. bear fight in the trailer.(c) This trailer has some of the shittiest CG this side of Birdemic and the acting seems twice as sincere.(d) I'm SUPER bummed that the chances of...

I got to get my hands on this template! Then we have some stills from the production to share with you.Two young orphans in the Tirolian Mountains come under siege by a vicious band of hunters. Frightened of being separated by child services...

Watch The Gorgeous Promo For Venice Selection THE POSTMAN'S WHITE NIGHTS

Posted: 26 Aug 2014 02:30 PM PDT

Other worldly. Out of time. Languid. Uncanny. Meditative. These are all fine and easy ways to describe the promo reel for veteran Russian-American director Andrei Konchalovsky's latest, The Postman's White Nights, which will be playing in competition at Venice early next month.Konchalovsky may be best known to Twitch readers as the director of the 1985 thriller Runaway Train, as well as the co-screenwriter with Andrei Tarkovsky on Andrei Rublev. Konchalovksy has certainly proven a versatile storyteller in his near six decades in the business, as this one is a big shift from his last, The Nutcracker in 3D. Check out the full synopsis and that gorgeous promo below.Separated from the outside world with only a boat to connect their remote village to the mainland, the...

Now On Blu-ray: JACKPOT Strikes It Rich, Norwegian Style

Posted: 26 Aug 2014 01:01 PM PDT

Don't go to strip clubs, kids. Or, don't buy a lottery ticket with paroled criminals. Or, just sit back and enjoy Jackpot, (original title: Arme Riddere), a scintillating, Norwegian-style thriller, out now on Blu-ray and DVD in the U.S. from Doppelganger Releasing. Based on a story by Jo Nesbo, the movie kicks off with an interrogation session between a cynical, grizzled police investigator and a still somewhat dazed "innocent," then promptly loops back to the aftermath of a shoot-out at a strip club, which left multiple dead bodies littering the joint and only one survivor. The story really begins, though, with the purchase of a lottery ticket; when it pays off big and the purchasers have a jackpot to share, then the deceptions begin. The film played at Fantasia back in...

Review: THE NOVEMBER MAN, A So-So August Rush

Posted: 26 Aug 2014 10:01 AM PDT

There are only two months separating August and November, yet they couldn't be more different. August is a final bastion of heat, transitional as summer break ends and school begins. November, by contrast, is chilled fall giving way to winter weathers, a month set well in its routines. For movies, November is also when the annual film awards season ramps up, delivering a glut of prestige films vying for acclaim and golden statues. The November Man, the latest spy adventure to feature four-time 007 Pierce Brosnan as a licensed agent with a cold resolve, is, despite its titular month, no such effort. In terms of crowd-pleasing aesthetics blending cat-and-mouse internal affairs intrigue, The November Man resides somewhere between the favored Jason Bourne series and the long-in-the-tooth...

New GONE GIRL Trailer Lets People Other Than Ben Affleck Talk

Posted: 26 Aug 2014 09:30 AM PDT

A new trailer for David Fincher's Gone Girl allows the characters to speak for themselves. The first promotional videos stamped the mystery as a Ben Affleck vehicle, which makes sense; he plays a husband whose wife goes missing in a high-profile case, and he comes under very vocal suspicion. Now we get to hear further from his wife, played by the exquisite Rosamund Pike, and she furthers the idea that he may be to blame, that he may, in fact, have killed his wife. We also hear from the likes of Tyler Perry (gulp!), Neil Patrick Harris, and others, although it's Perry who stands out for me, unfortunately not in a good way. Perhaps Mr. Fincher has figured out a good way to make use of Mr....

Trailer For Eduardo Sánchez's EXISTS Ramps Up The Sasquatch Legend

Posted: 26 Aug 2014 08:30 AM PDT

Eduardo Sánchez has returned to the woods with his new film Exists and once again something is hunting a gaggle of young people in this new trailer. Thankfully they are all armed with cameras to document their impending demise for the sake of our entertainment. Carry on, young ones. We will sit here with our popcorn and candy and wait upon your deaths. All Brian and Matt want to do is have a wild party with their friends out in the woods. They figure that their uncle's secluded cabin is a prime location, as it was abandoned long ago and is unlikely to have anyone complaining about the noise. What they did not plan on is for the legendary Sasquatch, who calls the east Texas woods his...

Jorge Michael Grau Heads To Louisiana To CURSE THE DARKNESS

Posted: 26 Aug 2014 07:01 AM PDT

Jorge Michael Grau, director of the Mexican cannibal film We Are What We Are, is heading to Louisiana to direct a new zombie film, Curse The Darkness. The film will be produced by Elijah Wood's production banner Spectrevision, along with partners Daniel Noah and Josh C. Waller. Zodiac Features will be funding and co-producing. This will be their first venture as a company.Curse the Darkness is what the trio refer to as an "anthropological zombie film," building on the real-world history of chemically-induced slavery widely practiced by plantation owners around the Haitian Revolution of 1803. Set against the modern day backdrop of undocumented workers laboring in the Louisiana sugarcane fields, the story is a terrifying look at the systematic exploitation of the labor force by large corporate...
