Indeed, here are three new clips from Nicolas Winding Refn's Cannes-selected Only God Forgives. While I don't want to spoil even the clips for those who want to wait for the movie -- which, to be honest, I wish I had done -- I can report that there will be fetishistic, brutal violence, lots of neon-drenched style and many shots of Ryan Gosling looking around enigmatically and not talking. The attempt to fully realize a believable gorilla as the main star in a 3D digital film without the luxury of a Hollywood-size blockbuster budget has proven to be major challenge for a Korea production and was long considered too risky to undertake. | Posted: 29 Apr 2013 01:30 PM PDT  At this, the half way mark of Orphan Black, it is easy to see what the two primary weaknesses of the oft-entertaining (and hugely so) show are. First, with so much effort put into the Sarah and Beth characters many (read: all) of the support players are underdeveloped to varying degrees, some of them (read: Vic and Paul) critically so. Second, the producers seem to be operating under the assumption that the audience will find the story much harder to follow than it actually is without long stretches of exposition explaining things that the audience has - in actual fact - already figured out or would do so quite easily if you just showed them something rather than grinding all the action to a halt... I'm vaguely aware about words like "Macross", and Robotech was this weird cartoon on when I was a young adolescent that never seemed as fun as Voltron. Still, based on evidence to date, I think I'm going to like Pacific Rim a whole lot. Plus, it looks like a robot dude is going to beat the shit out of a monster with a boat. Well, here you go with a second teaser for the Lee Sang-il directed Japanese remake of Clint Eastwood's Unforgiven with Ken Watanabe in the lead. The action is now set in late 1800's Hokkaido with Watanabe playing a long retired samurai drawn back into action by the combination of poverty and a large bounty. The story spans from China's Ming Dynasty (1368 - 1644) to modern day Hong Kong. It is being shot in 3D and easily one of Donnie's most ambitious projects to date. The production has not been easy; however, as difficulties such as the failure to get government approval to film some scenes on Tsing Ma Bridge and challenges associated with shooting in 3D have led to a prolonged shoot and escalating production costs, with some reports saying the budget of the film has already doubled from what was initially planned. | Posted: 29 Apr 2013 11:00 AM PDT  The She Wolf (Mujer Lobo) is prowling the streets of Buenos AIres - or, more accurately, it's bars and nightclubs - looking for prey in the third feature from Tamae Garategu. The film tracks a sexual predator preying upon lonely men - seducing them, bringing them home and killing them - until she comes across someone she cannot kill. It's exploitation fare to be sure but there's always something intriguing about seeing this sort of material handled from the female perspective and early word is that the film is very, very strong. | John Noble Joining Hugo Weaving In THE MULE Posted: 29 Apr 2013 10:30 AM PDT  It was just this past Friday that we first caught wind of The Mule, the Leigh Whannel and Angus Sampson scripted crime thriller to be directed by first timer Tony Mahony with the producer of Chopper also on board. The occasion at the time was word that Hugo Weaving had stepped into the lead role and while nothing is yet 'official' Twitch has heard that Weaving will be joined by fellow Lord Of The Rings alum John Noble - best known as Walter Bishop on Fringe, though he also played Denethor in the Peter Jackson helmed fantasy epics - in a support role. Polish director Jerzy Skolimowski is no stranger to the International Film Festival Rotterdam, which even honored him a few years ago with a retrospective of his works. But this year it was his son Michal's turn to appear in the spotlight over here. Together with his brother Józef he scored a bit of a cult-hit back in 1993, with their debut film The Hollow Men, and he now presented his second film Ixjana. | Kitamura Says He's Bringing Sakaguchi Back For VERSUS Sequel In 2014 Posted: 29 Apr 2013 09:00 AM PDT  This should be great news for any fans of Versus, the frenetic, low-budget, crazy action film from Japan in 2000 that has become a cult favorite over the years: Director Kitamura Ryuhei will be making a sequel some time next year. He made the announcement when he was on stage promoting his new Hollywood film No One Lives. Kitamura also expressed his confidence that Sakaguchi Tak, star of the original Versus (and other action films like Shinobi and Yakuza Weapon), will appear in the sequel. Posted: 29 Apr 2013 08:45 AM PDT  How's this for something that would have seemed unimagineable to say just a few years ago but now seems abundantly obvious: Justin Lin is not coming back to direct Fast And Furious 7 and that's a bad thing. It's bad because Lin has taken a franchise that had its beginning as the guiltiest of guilty pleasures and reinvented it as arguably the most reliable of all American action vehicles, embracing the ridiculous elements and elevating them to high entertainment while also reinventing himself as the absolute finest director of vehicular mayhem on the planet.Yeah, they're big and dumb and totally, 100% adolescent wish fulfillment and they do it so well that they've become pretty damn awesome. | Hot Docs 2013 Review: WE ALWAYS LIE TO STRANGERS Posted: 29 Apr 2013 08:00 AM PDT  The title is a mouthful, but is a entirely appropriate and poetic link to the film's subject matter, the bizarre Vegas-in-the-Ozarks refuge that is Branson, Missouri.Nestled in the heart of hillbilly country, the town of 10,000 plays home to millions of visitors a year looking for some heartland-style entertainment. The doc does a great job in finding a wide variety of representative Bransonians that entertain the busloads. It's here that the names Presley and Lennon have a different context than they might on the coasts, where bib panted yokels joke about Democrats and the 5-6-7-8 of song and dance numbers ring out to horrendously orchestrated takes on Village People hits.Directors AJ Schnack and David Wilson manage to capture some of the inherent beauty of the... That's the rumor, though we've seen no sign of it for quite some time, but the whole leadership / motivation / keeping people in line thing? Nope, not so much. It's a Stark heavy episode of Game Of Thrones this time out and while bastard child Jon Snow rather enjoys himself and Arya gets grumpy, Sansa demonstrates once again that George RR Martin doesn't think particularly highly of teenage girls - this one in particular proving incredibly stupid AGAIN - while Robb proves to be lousy at everything other than righteous indignation while learning that righteous indignation doesn't get you very far at... | First Footage of SNOWPIERCER Revealed in New Behind The Scenes Teaser Posted: 29 Apr 2013 06:30 AM PDT -thumb-200x200-37961.jpg) We've been waiting for a while and now the first footage from Snowpiercer has finally surfaced in the form of a mini teaser/making of video (without English subtitles for the moment). We don't get a huge look at the film but its scale and ambition are evident, and technically the film looks stunning as we see a number of complicated behind the scenes setups and large scale fight sequences.Sadly Snowpiercer was not finished in time for Cannes but it is still aiming for a summer release. Given the cast (Chris Evans, Tilda Swinton, Song Kang-ho, Ed Harris, John Hurt and many more), director Bong Joon-ho (Memories of Murder, The Host), producer Park Chan-wook (Oldboy, Stoker), a strong sci-fi premise and now our first actual glimpse...
