Paranoid Procedural with UK's CLOSED CIRCUIT Posted: 04 Jun 2013 04:30 PM PDT There is something inherently ominous with the aesthetic of all those camera-feeds in security conscious Londontown. Furious 6's London setting failed to properly make use of them, but they seem to be at the heart of the matter for Jon Crowley's (Boy A, Intermission) mature information-technology thriller Closed Circuit. Eric Bana and Ciarán Hinds are aiming to catch urban terrorists (instead of planting the bombs as they did together in Spielberg's Munich) with the help of Rebecca Hall, Julia Stiles and Jim Broadbent. There was something of a critic-pile-on with the film and my hunch is that the poster to the left offers a clue as to why. Tonally it's an odd one, the premise reading like a hard crime film while the director drops in a duo (Andy Lau and Sammi Cheng) known for their wacky romcom pairings in the lead. But, hey ... Euro Beat: Ben Wheatley's A FIELD IN ENGLAND Will Screen At Karlovy Vary Film Festival Before Release Posted: 04 Jun 2013 11:00 AM PDT As we reported already, Ben Wheatley's psychedelic civil-war horror story, A Field In England, is being distributed via a day-and-date theatrical VOD strategy in the UK, and will be available July 5. But it looks like some lucky folks will get a chance to see it earlier at the Karlovy Vary Film Festival in the Czech Republic. One day earlier, to be exact. The seminal European film festival has announced their line-up, which will open with Michel Gondrey's Mood Indigo. And yes, Wheatley's film will screen July 4 as part of the competition. Although there will be no music this year, the Peace & Love Film Festival (also in Borlänge) will still take place. Two movies that will be shown are Alfred Hitchcock's classic The Birds (which is celebrating 50 years) and Monty Python's The Meaning of Life by Terry Jones & Terry Gilliam.The full program will be released on Friday, so there's only a couple of days left to wait.
