Though I'd never heard of Asaf Hanuka and Etgar Keretor their comic Streets Of Rage prior to a couple hours ago I certainly have more than an inkling to look them up now thanks to the short film adaptation of the story by Daniel Lazo and Eran May-raz. The story is very much from the slice of life / autobiographical coming of age school of indie graphic novels and it's a solid bit of work. Watch the entire five minute short below and if you've got any recommendations on where a neophyte should start with Hanuka and Keretor's work, please let us know!...

Ed Helms To Wear The Badge In Paramount's NAKED GUN Reboot!

Posted: 14 Dec 2013 02:30 PM PST

Paramount is going to reboot their Naked Gun franchise and Ed Helms (The Hangover trilogy) is going to portray the role of Frank Drebin, once portrayed by Canadian comedy legend Leslie Nielsen. Thomas Lennon and R. Ben Garant (Night at the Museum and Reno 911) are handling the screenplay.  The Naked Gun and its two sequels were slapstick comedies in the late 80s and early 90s. Made by Jim Abrams and the Zucker brothers, Jerry and David, they proved to be enormously popular, though the series waned by the third film. Myself, I am somewhat skeptical that anyone can fill Nielsen's shoes in this, or any role he did. He was one of a kind. Time will tell. ...

The Hobbit in HFingR: An Unexpected Journey To The Glory Of 48fps.

Posted: 14 Dec 2013 02:00 PM PST

At Twitch we like to write not just about films, but about film. One excellent example, of many, is Matt Brown's regular and incessantly thought-provoking column, "Destroy All Monsters," which tackles myriad cinematic topics that, well, make him twitch. My own background is in engineering, and consequently film technology is a subject that makes me twitch. I also have a deep and decades-long interest in Tolkien; his literary works, his life, and Peter Jackson's film translations. So the introduction of high frame rate (HFR) shooting and projection in The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey (TH:AUJ) was a fascinating issue for me, particularly when coming from the hands of Peter Jackson. You see, I cut my teeth on the film-making process by watching every single one of...

INTERSTELLAR: The Teaser For Nolan's Latest Reaches For The Stars

Posted: 14 Dec 2013 01:30 PM PST

With another banner year behind him, Matthew McConaughey's next big project is Christopher Nolan's Interstellar. A year out from release, what we see today is indeed a teaser. But with its somber and inspiring tone, featuring McConaughey voice over and footage from our space race heyday, it's a very affecting tease most notably because it reminds us of humanity's desires, passions and curiosities, which were at one time, not too long ago, bundled up in rockets and shuttles and trips to the moon Interstellar releases November 7, 2014. Anne Hathaway, Jessica Chastain, Bill Irwin, Ellen Burstyn and Michael Caine co-star....

Singapore Cop Thriller RE:SOLVE Promises High Octane Action In First Teaser

Posted: 14 Dec 2013 01:00 PM PST

The film industry in Singapore has seemed to be in a bit of flux over the past few years, and dominantly in positive ways. We're seeing a broader range of genres embraced, a new generation of talent behind the camera, and legitimate home grown stars becoming more prevalent than ever, and all of this factors in to Randy Ang's upcoming police thriller Re:solve.Singapore's first crime thriller follows Serious Crimes Unit Inspector Chen Shaoqiang (Chris Lee Chih Cheng) as he tries to figure out a series of daring armed heists and seemingly unrelated murders. Shaoqiang must revisit his troubled past as a member of the elite Special Tactics Unit, after a botched raid seven years earlier that shattered the unity of his team, taking the life...

Review: THE SUSPECT Eschews Drama For Action, And Lots Of It

Posted: 14 Dec 2013 01:00 PM PST

Thinking back to Shiri (1999) and Secret Reunion (2010), North Korean spies have a history of success at the Korean box office. Local producers have been especially keen to capitalize on their appeal this year with no less than four big budget spy thrillers infiltrating screens. Of the three released to date, two of them (The Berlin File and Secretly Greatly) were big hits (around seven million admissions a piece) while last month's Commitment failed to generate much buzz (barely one million viewers). On Christmas Eve, The Suspect will bring its high-octane cocktail of action and intrigue to theaters, bringing the count to four. Dong-chul, a North Korean spy abandoned by his country, goes on the run. He learns that his family has been killed...

Out Now On Vinyl/CD: Simon Boswell's Remastered Score For Cult Classic HARDWARE

Posted: 14 Dec 2013 12:30 PM PST

For that cross section of readers that call themselves cinephiles and vinyl collectors, a real treat this holiday season, or any for that matter, is no doubt Simon Boswell's remastered score to Richard Stanley's seminal cult classic Hardware. Boswell's eclectic musicianship, spiraling from his slide guitar theme to synthy soundscapes, more traditional orchestral arrangements and FX infused experiments, was an integral part to Stanley's post-apocalyptic visions in Hardware. Available through Boswell directly is this double edition featuring the original soundtrack, in addition to the score with never before heard versions and takes, plus voice overs with Stanley reading from the unproduced Hardware 2 script. There's also commentary for each track by Boswell, liner notes by Stanley, and new artwork by Graham Humprhey. The vinyl is...

Watch An Impressive Teaser For Portuguese Scifi Horror DEDALO

Posted: 14 Dec 2013 08:00 AM PST

While Portugal has never particularly been a hotbed for either science fiction or horror - though I am quite fond of early 2000's horror effort Coisa Ruim - director Jeronimo Rocha may very well change that. He's certainly giving it a very good try with his new short film Dedalo. After hitting the festival circuit with a previous pair of award winning shorts, Rocha heads into space for this one - the story of a woman trapped on an orbiting refinery with hostile aliens. Though the teaser is quite brief and very much a tease, it's a good one. Check it out below....
