Here's A New Image Of Tom Hardy As MAD MAX Posted: 20 Mar 2014 10:30 PM PDT Another pic of Tom Hardy as Max Rocktansky in Mad Max: Fury Road has found its way online. As most productions of such high profile usually are, the flow of information and news has been held to a trickle. Only this new image above and the one below from a couple years ago seem to be our only taste of what is to come in May 2015. ... |
Review: MUPPETS MOST WANTED, A Sequel That Delivers What Fans Want Posted: 20 Mar 2014 10:01 PM PDT It was halfway through a press conference this week that someone asked the talent propped up at the front of the assembled media about the inconsistencies that one can find between the various tales that have served as the eight Muppet theatrical films and various other feature-length projects. Putting her hand over her eyes, growling an "oh, brother...", she looked out with a piercing expression at the person who had asked the inane question and chided, "It's a MOVIE!". She clearly wanted to divorce the comings-and-goings of real life from travails of their on-screen hijinks. It was an entirely believable response, and I admit, for more than a minute, I forgot I was hearing these words from a bundle of felt and fake hair, an... |
Posted: 20 Mar 2014 08:00 PM PDT Seen Cheap Thrills yet? Do so. Period. But be warned. What looks like a simple genre game of whack-a-mole is anything but. Characters do the most horrible things to each other, some of it is genuinely hilarious, but after a while it gets deep under the skin. Sure there's a guy off to the side offering money to whoever will step up and over the line of common human decency but the motives of those participating are soon revealed as more than just simple greed. These are people on a journey of self-discovery. Writer and director Evan Katz has conjured a story that is every bit as hypnotic as it is disturbing. His neatest trick is to make you afraid to turn away since not knowing... |
New CHEAP THRILLS Trailer Asks, "What's A Pinky Worth?" Posted: 20 Mar 2014 07:30 PM PDT Cheap Thrills. It was a darling of the festival circuit last year, earning high praise wherever it played, and is a favorite among the folk here at Twitch. Yes, it really is that good. It opens tomorrow night (Friday, March 21) at Cinefamily in Los Angeles and Alamo Drafthouse Slaughter Lane in Austin. The film will also be available on iTunes and cable VOD. There is a new trailer to mark the occasion and it asks a simple question: How much is a pinky worth? On top of the film's release, Drafthouse Films and Fantastic Fest's Tim League has offered up what he is calling MONEY BACK (PLUS) OFFER to those on their mailing list. If you don't like this movie after this recommendation, here is my... |
Crowdfund This! New Sci-Fi Short EIDOLON From Director Of 88:88 Posted: 20 Mar 2014 05:30 PM PDT When Nashville based director Joey Ciccoline made his 2012 short film 88:88 he enlisted the musical stylings of Makeup and Vanity Set and used their song Never Let Go. Matt Pusti from MUVS followed up and created an entire album for the short film under the same title. Fast forward two years and the pair are collaborating again; except this time the influences have reversed. Joey, along with writer Daniel Shepherd, are taking the concept of MUVS' latest album Wilderness, exploring loss and grief and humanity in the face of technology and our own finite nature, and are turning it into a new short film, Eidolon. A young man in a mysterious future metropolis works at a feverish pace to discover a cure for his bedridden sister... |

Review: DIVERGENT Is Not So Special Posted: 20 Mar 2014 02:00 PM PDT "I like training sequences to run no longer than the length of the song 'Eye of the Tiger.' This one runs ninety minutes." That was my friend's reaction to the bloated, flat, and spark-less Divergent, in which an unlikely heroine will rise up and challenge the Powers That Be Powerful. So certain that the world needs another of its Hunger Games franchises, Lionsgate has promptly bought up and churned out this next entry in the current parade of dystopian young adult sci-fi social allegories, the ironically titled Divergent book series by Veronica Roth. Having not read either the white-hot Divergent or Hunger Games source material, I can merely assess that based upon their film adaptations, Divergent does not diversify the field by much. A minor... |
New RUROUNI KENSHIN: KYOTO INFERNO Trailer: Blades Flash Aplenty Posted: 20 Mar 2014 01:00 PM PDT A new teaser for manga-to-film swordplay epic Rurouni Kenshin: Kyoto Inferno has popped up. Fans of the first film will not be disappointed. Fans of Fujiwara Tatsuya may be, though, as he is unrecognizable in his Shishio make-up. Pity. Such a pretty man. Kenshin Himura (Sato Takeru) goes up against pure evil Makoto Shishio (Fujiwara Tatsuya), who is attempting to overthrow the Meiji government. The fate of the country hangs in the balance as Kenshin Himura takes up the sword that he vowed to never draw again.Kyoto Inferno opens in Japan on August 1. The second part, Rurouni Kenshin: The Legend Ends opens two weeks later on September 13. The sequels were directed by Ohtomo Keishi, who directed the first Rurouni Kenshin film in 2012.... |

Trailer: EARTH TO ECHO Brings 80s Kid-Oriented Sci-Fi Up To Date Posted: 20 Mar 2014 12:00 PM PDT There is still hope for 80s nostalgia film lovers looking for that contemporary tie-in to the films we loved when we were kids. And it looks like our potential savior comes by way of director David Green. At least this time, the kids look to be a part of the adventure, simply not observers, as in previous efforts. Green is no stranger to us at Twitch. We have already expressed our love for his short film Ham Sandwich and series Zombie Roadkill. And now, we can look forward to his feature debut Earth to Echo, which will open in cinemas on July 2. Tuck, Munch and Alex are a closely bonded trio of inseparable friends, but their time together is coming to an end. Their neighborhood is... |

Check it out below.... |
Review: BLOOD TIES Knots Up 1970s New York Posted: 20 Mar 2014 11:00 AM PDT To call Guillaume Canet's Blood Ties a love letter to the 1970s is a bit of an understatement. The Clive Owen, Billy Crudup brothers-on-opposite-sides-of-the-law drama absolutely oozes with 1970s nostalgia, from its impeccable costume and production design to its almost fetishistic use of 1970s music. Even the story is a throwback to some of the great crime films of the era, not to mention the choice to cast James Caan. While it doesn't quite get every beat right, strong performances and a satisfying plot make it a memory trip worth taking. Frank (Crudup) has always had a contentious relationship with his older brother Chris (Owen), though as much as he hates to admit it, his decision to become a cop wasn't enough to stop him... |
Review: NYMPHOMANIAC: VOLUME I Teases And Entices Posted: 20 Mar 2014 10:00 AM PDT When discussing Lars Von Trier's Nymphomaniac within team Twitch, I suddenly realized a couple of things that surprised me. One, that I've never been disappointed yet by a Lars Von Trier film. Two, how few Lars Von Trier films I've seen. These two things are very much at odds with one another. I have nothing but good memories of his work, and with every new project of his I hear about, I feel excited at the original premise. So why am I not enticed more when a new film by him finally appears in the cinema? Take Antichrist: Lars Von Trier doing horror? I'm in! I hear it's about a couple grieving over the death of their child, followed by genital mutilation? I'm out! Take... |
Review: CHEAP THRILLS, When The Survival Instinct Gets Bloody And Funny Posted: 20 Mar 2014 09:00 AM PDT Class warfare comes perversely home in Cheap Thrills, a fiendish, fierce, and funny morality tale about the true value of money. It's absolutely convincing, even though it shouldn't be. The film explores the tangled relationship between the idle rich and the working poor, giving fresh answers to age-old questions: How far are you willing to go to provide for your family? What is the dollar value of pride and/or humiliation? How do you assess your own personal worth? And how much money would you pay to get revenge on the neighbor's dog that keeps defecating in your backyard? Craig (Pat Healy) is introduced as a loving family man, with a supportive wife (Amanda Fuller) and 15-month-old son. But they're facing eviction if Craig can't come... |
Review: JODOROWSKY'S DUNE Delightfully Journeys Into The Brilliance That Might Have Been Posted: 20 Mar 2014 07:00 AM PDT What's the most important film never made? Is it Kubrick's Napoleon? How about Gilliam's take on Don Quijote? In his excellent sophomore feature documentary of the same name, director Frank Pavich would have you believe the answer is Jodorowsky's Dune. And let me tell you this ... the man makes a hell of a case. The film follows a relatively straightforward format of archival clips and interviews with many of the filmmakers involved in the film-that-never-was, all of whom seem quite excited to recount their memories of the process. This goes double for Jodorowsky himself, who makes up about half the interview time. A completely likeable character, Jodorowsky is lively and exuberant while telling his stories. Jodorowsky's entire filmography leading up to Dune is discussed... |
