Watch The Disgusting Red Band Trailer For SEPTIC MAN Posted: 04 Aug 2014 03:15 PM PDT When you set out to make a movie called Septic Man you have to figure it's a bit of validation, a bit of a pat on the back and job well done, when the MPAA assesses you an R rating for "Disturbing vile and gruesome images, violence and language." Disturbingly vile sounds about right for this one, the story of a plumber trapped in an underground tank slowly transforming into a sort of sewage monster from the pen of Pontypool writer Tony Burgess. How icky do things get? With the release coming up via Starz (VOD August 12, theaters August 15, DVD August 19) there's a red band trailer below to give a sniff. Hold your nose and plunge in ...... |
Twitchvision: Jason Gorber Talks GUARDIANS, GET ON UP, And More Posted: 04 Aug 2014 02:00 PM PDT Another huge Marvel summer blockbuster has exploded at the box office, this one directed by Super's James Gunn. I never thought Guardians of the Galaxy would hit it off with audiences, but I'm pleased to see it doing as well as it is.I also looked at the ambitious but disappointing James Brown biopic Get On Up; the ingredients are there for something truly groundbreaking, but it all ends up too on-the-beat by the end. Finally, a brief look at Magic In The Moonlight, a minor work from the great Woody Allen that shows that not every one of his annual works is necessarily a masterpiece.Plus, for bonus coverage, here's last week's look at Hercules, Snowpiercer, and A Most Wanted Man, as well as a tease of Toronto... |
Twitch Talks to Dave Bautista, From GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY Posted: 04 Aug 2014 01:01 PM PDT Dave Bautista is a giant of a man. His arms could clearly crush me without much effort, and my blood would hardly show up against his sleeve tattoos, surely blending in with the symphony of shapes and colours that cover each limb. Yet there's a quiet, contemplative air to him, a self-described introvert with a soft-spoken baritone voice. He seems downright philosophical discussing his latest film, Guardians of the Galaxy, discussing his transition away from the ring into the world of acting. I knew him to be an avid collector of food containers, and so we began the roundtable discussion with an obvious question. There are reports that you are a serious collector of lunchboxes. You have any with your face on them yet?... |
THE TRANSPORTER LEGACY Gets Title, Release Date Posted: 04 Aug 2014 12:00 PM PDT While Jason Statham searches for an appropriate action vehicle in China, one of his former franchises drives on without him. The Transporter Legacy, starring Ed Skrein (pictured), will motor into North American theaters on March 6, 2015, according to Variety. It will be the first release from EuropaCorp USA, a new distribution entity formed earlier this year. Camille Delamarre, who helmed Brick Mansions, the English-language remake of 2004's Banlieue 13, is directing the new installment in the series. Skrein also has roles in the upcoming action flicks Northmen: A Viking Saga and Tiger House, so we'll see if The Transporter Legacy can give his career a boost in a similar manner to how Statham's career was boosted by his lead performance in The Transporter back... |
Guanajuato 2014: Roger Corman's Master Class (Recap And Photos) Posted: 04 Aug 2014 11:00 AM PDT B movie king Roger Corman was honored this year at the Guanajuato International Film Festival (GIFF). A selection of both Corman-directed and produced films were screened during the festival, at such venues as the city's Teatro Juarez, the graveyard, and the university. Corman presented all of them in Guanajuato Capital (one of the two cities that hosted the festival), staying up late to visit the graveyard where such films as The Tomb of Ligeia and The Pit and the Pendulum were shown. I arrived late to the celebration but still just in time for the main homage and the master class. On Friday, August 1, the festival's official homage to Corman happened at the Teatro Juarez. It began with a video that introduced Roger Corman to the... |
Exclusive Trailer Premiere: Pregnancy's A Real Bitch In SEE YOU NEXT TUESDAY Posted: 04 Aug 2014 10:00 AM PDT After a successful festival run that included awards from Indie Memphis and Boston Underground, Drew Tobia's feature debut See You Next Tuesday is getting a multi-platorm and multi-tiered release from Devolver Digital Films. And we've got the exclusive debut of the trailer (and poster!) for this darkly shaded pregnancy comedy.Eleanore Pienta stars as Mona, a very pregnant and very rude (if just plain mentally unstable) young woman, who's making everyone's lives around her a living, breathing hell. Recalling less the hokum white-wash Mumblecore scene of the aughts and more in line with NYC's true multiculturalism, along with a dash of John Waters cult-tastic raunch, Tobia's film is set for a theatrical release in NYC on August 22, followed by a digital VOD release on August... |
Fantasia 2014: Bradley King And BP Cooper Talk Truth, Photography, And TIME LAPSE Posted: 04 Aug 2014 09:00 AM PDT There are some post-screening Q&A periods that are so well balanced, succinct and engaging that they do the job better than an lengthy one-on-one interview. The session with both of the Time Lapse writers, Bradley King (who also directed the film) and BP Cooper (who wore also wore a producer's cap) in the J.A. De Seve cinema was one of these rare birds. Despite being locked out of the cinema until nearly the exact minute the film ended, with the moderator also MIA - locked out of the building as well, as there are many entrances, but finding an unlocked one can be tricky late at night on a weekend) - the director and producer arrived in the nick of time and sat gingerly on the stage to... |
Fantasia 2014 Review: TIME LAPSE, A Sharply Written Indie Sci-Fi Picture Posted: 04 Aug 2014 08:01 AM PDT Opening with a shot of swirling red paint, which then has tiny flecks of white thrown into the mixture to disturb the surface and complicate the image, Bradley King and B.P. Cooper's Time Lapse shows just how bloody far you can go with a tiny budget, a great prop, and two locations. The script here is a beauty that finds new ways to look at time travel causality -- or, rather, the dangers of perceived causality -- along with the good old genre standby of the 'big bag of money' landing in your lap. To prove it's the real deal, the film also diligently delves into trust-issues that develop amongst friends when a morally questionable opportunity in life presents itself. At 20, everyone wants to be an artist,... |
Hey, Mexico! Win Cult Classic ALUCARDA On DVD Posted: 04 Aug 2014 07:00 AM PDT The good folks at Mexican distribution company ZatMeni know very well that the Twitch reader loves weird and cult movies. They also dig that kind of glorious stuff, actually; proof is that their DVD catalog includes the Juan López Moctezuma collection, with three films by this cult Mexican director, plus the documentary on his most famous picture, Alucarda. And so, ZatMeni has been kind enough to give us six DVD copies of Alucarda, one of the quintessential titles if you talk about Mexican horror cinema. Moctezuma passed away on August 2, 1995; since then, his work has been gaining more and more popularity within new generations, with film festivals like Macabro and Morelia paying respect to his legacy. I don't think we need any more excuses... |
