Have Your Say: SKYFALL Spoiled?

(Hi Mr. Bond, you're about to get screwed...) The teaser trailers of several James Bond movies in the past featured the tagline "Bond Is Back", yet for few it would be so fitting a sentence as it is for Skyfall. Wherever it premieres it thunders through the multiplexes with all the mass of a financial mastodon, gathering money and leaving people smiling. Because the general consensus is that people are very happy with Skyfall. At the moment it has even entered the IMDB Top-250 list. Bond is back indeed and delivering the goods, in such a way that some feel the film is above criticism. It makes for a striking difference with other Bond films in general, which tend to exist somewhere BELOW criticism. Who...

James Wan Bringing MACGYVER To The Big Screen?

Posted: 12 Nov 2012 12:25 PM PST

For those of us who grew up with it MacGyver was a show that defied this whole jumping the shark business. The entire premise - with Richard Dean Anderson's character fighting criminals and terrorists with whatever odd junk he happened to find lying around - was deeply ridiculous and the very outlandishness of it was entirely the appeal. The tougher the situation and more ludicrous the solution the more awesome MacGyver was. It was just that simple. And now he's bringing his rolls of duct tape to the big screen.Variety report that New Line are in talks with Insidious and Saw director James Wan to direct a big screen version of the show and while it'll be difficult to get the balance right - I...

Jason Gorber's Cineruminations: SKYFALL And The Bonds Of Nostalgia

Posted: 12 Nov 2012 10:00 AM PST

We've gone a little Bond crazy here at Twitch, with a whole slew of Bond-themed articles dissecting the casting, the cars, the tunes, and so on, leading up to the North American release of Skyfall. Collectively the Bond flicks are a series of action/adventure films that certainly warrant such reflection, and we've had plenty of time to think about such things given the delays incurred due to the implosion at MGM that resulted in a slightly longer break than normal between installments in the franchise.   Growing up, Bond on screen was of the Roger Moore ilk, filled with adventures, gadgets and  scantily clad plasticized women that I never took particularly seriously. I always found the films either too campy or not camp enough,...

First Poster And Stills For Winterbottom's THE LOOK OF LOVE Lead Steve Coogan Into Temptation

Posted: 12 Nov 2012 08:00 AM PST

The combination of Steve Coogan and Michael Winterbottom is, quite simply, gold. Despite his obvious talents and enormous popularity on UK television Coogan has, in general, struggled to make the transition to the big screen with the exceptions being the films he has done with Winterbottom - 24 Hour Party People, Tristram Shandy: A Cock And Bull Story and The Trip (which, yes, was TV first) - making better use of Coogan in any randomly selected five minutes of their run time than the entirety of his Hollywood output put together. And Winterbottom has fared well in the deal, too, his Coogan starring works standing among his absolute best. And so it is more than a little bit exciting whenever these two men get together to...
