Posted: 08 Nov 2012 08:50 PM PST I don't need to tell anyone out there that Vincent Price is a legend. Price was the rare actor who could turn on a dime from sneering menace to suave ladies' man without so much as a hiccup. He became a leading man in the 40s and sustained a career on the screen through the 80s. Whether it was playing the despicable cad in Roger Corman's Poe cycle in the 1960s, the gentle and unforgettable inventor in Tim Burton's Edward Scissorhands, or hamming it up wildly as Egghead in the '60s TV version of Batman, Vincent Price knew exactly who he was and what his strengths were. The beautiful part of that is that, rather than allowing himself to be pigeonholed by his one of... |
CONFIRMED: Mark Wahlberg Takes The Lead In TRANSFORMERS 4 Posted: 08 Nov 2012 06:45 PM PST It was back on October 22nd that Twitch broke word that Michael Bay had engaged in very early talks with Mark Wahlberg to take the lead in the upcoming Transformers 4. It was a story that Bay would deny the next day, claiming he was talking with Wahlberg about a different, as yet unspecified project. But given that Bay had previously publicly denied both the presence of Megatron in Transformers: Revenge Of The Fallen and that he would direct Transformers 4 at all, and that our sources on this story had proven out completely reliable in the past, we remained completely confident. And earlier today it was confirmed by Michael Bay himself: Mark Wahlberg has officially signed to take the lead in Transformers 4. Ehren Kruger... |
Review: MIAMI CONNECTION, Baby, is More Than a Diamond in the Rough Posted: 08 Nov 2012 06:00 PM PST Dear Miami Connection, You're the one for me. I've loved you since the first time I saw your trailer. I don't know whether it was the insanely acrobatic Tae Kwon Do or the incredible friendship-themed power pop that first got me hooked, but I'm stuck like glue. So often I find that incredible trailers are cut from the most inane films, it's not a challenge to turn 90 minutes of boring horseshit into 90 seconds of incredible highlights, so you'll have to forgive me if I was a little bit skeptical at first. I wasn't really that I doubted you, baby, it was just that, well, I've been burned before. I can still remember the first time I saw the trailer for Seed of Chucky,... |
STAR WARS Silly Season Begins: We May Have a Writer! Posted: 08 Nov 2012 05:30 PM PST It still is a bit amazing that one of the biggest secrets in Hollywood was kept as mum as it did for so long, but now the rumour mills are rotating in full, um, "force" surrounding the making of the untitled Star Wars: Episode VII.Just a few days ago, there was loads of talk about a project that Disney purchased last summer scripted by Damon Lindelof and with Brad Bird attached. Many quickly dismissed this idea, but the latest news put out by Vulture at least makes one feel that it might be true.According to their sources, Michael Arndt is already hard at work on a script for the upcoming film. Arndt obviously well versed in the Disney practice of keeping secrets, having run that... |
Review: A ROYAL AFFAIR Masterfully Examines the Heart, the State, and the Mind Posted: 08 Nov 2012 05:00 PM PST To be blunt, A Royal Affair is easily one of the best films I have seen this year, and there is little doubt it will end up in my top five. I say this with such conviction for a few reasons. Firstly, I love period pieces, and all of the basic elements are not only gorgeously presented, but enhanced greatly by the layers of political, historical and dramatic truths in the film. Secondly, there is so much more happening in A Royal Affair and it is all balanced with deft direction and style. Lastly, the incredible performances from the three protagonists not only add to the drama of the film, but actually go to great lengths to envision the true historical accounts of 1760s Copenhagen.... |
That's A Big Tower O' Zombies! Here's The Trailer For WORLD WAR Z Posted: 08 Nov 2012 04:52 PM PST For a moment, let's forget all the pre-production, production and post-production woes we've heard about on Marc Forster's adaption of Max Brooks' zombie apocalypse novel, and take a gander at the first real look we have of the Brad Pitt starring uber zombie epic. Well, what do we get? Plenty of running, plenty of CG undead hordes, a lot of family members clutching other family members and the military telling Mr. Pitt that he is important. The overall sense I'm getting? Feels a bit like Spielberg's take on War Of The Worlds. What say you? ... |
All Singing! All Dancing! All Undead! Watch The BAFTA Winning ZOMBIE MUSICAL Now! Posted: 08 Nov 2012 01:00 PM PST Back in 2009 writer-director Ryan McHenry unleashed the undead in Scotland. But these zombies were different. Sure, they ate brains. Sure, they slowly decomposed. But they also had a bit of spring in their step, or at least their potential victims did as McHenry's entry into the zombie canon was a full-on singing and dancing musical. The short film - titled simply Zombie Musical - won it creators a BAFTA while also landing them a feature film deal and with that feature now getting closer to the end of the development process the full short has been released online. So put on your dancing shoes and check it below!... |
Review: CITADEL is Creepy, Atmospheric, and Packed Full of Quality Scares Posted: 08 Nov 2012 12:01 PM PST Sometimes a cigar is just a cigar, or as the case may be with Citadel, a group of violent, marauding child-demons is exactly that. Cirian Foy's first feature film is nearly everything a horror film should be: creepy, atmospheric, and packed full of quality scares that run the gamut from good old fashioned "bump in the night" terror to something a little more lingeringly disturbing. Unfortunately, the two halves of Citadel both feel like very different but nonetheless high-quality works of art, stitched together in a fashion that doesn't quite hide the seams. The film begins with Tommy (Aneurin Barnard) and his pregnant wife Joanne (Amy Shiels) preparing to leave their home in a run-down housing project. Just as they are about to take their... |
Director Ciaran Foy on CITADEL: "In My Scared-Shitless Head, I Just Wanted to Get Rid of Them." Posted: 08 Nov 2012 11:00 AM PST Last September, Ciaran Foy's Citadel scared me very badly. In fact, I still think about it when I walk home through empty streets late at night. Besides the fact that the film itself is incredibly nerve-racking, one thing that made it really stick with me was Foy's personal history, which inspired the film. Basically, when Foy was 18, he was violently attacked by a group of young teenagers wielding, among other things, a hammer and a dirty syringe. Following the incident, he battled intense agoraphobia for several years. Ultimately, though, Foy found inspiration for this terrifying, psychologically intense film about a seemingly unstoppable gang of seriously evil children. Let's hear it for silver linings!I discussed the attack and its connection to the film in depth... |
Opening: SKYFALL Reaches High, Yet Stumbles Posted: 08 Nov 2012 10:02 AM PST Some two weeks after opening in much of the civilised world (i.e. Europe), Skyfall will finally be unleashed in North America tomorrow, Friday, November 9. Advance word -- including a review by our European Editor, Brian Clark -- has been very strong indeed. Does the film deserve such plaudits? About a year ago I wrote an article, asking you people what you were anticipating for 2012. Up came the usual suspects: Prometheus, The Dark Knight Rises, The Hobbit, and... the new Bond film by Sam Mendes. Wait, what? Yes, the new Bond was eagerly anticipated, by me as well. I was rather late in getting on the Daniel Craig bandwagon, only catching up to Casino Royale when it appeared on Blu-ray, prior to watching Quantum... |
Opening: Steven Spielberg's LINCOLN Impresses With Restraint and Slow-Burn Intensity Posted: 08 Nov 2012 09:01 AM PST Steven Spielberg's latest historical epic, Lincoln, opens in the U.S. and Canada in limited release on Friday, November 9, then expands wide next week (November 16). The film is shimmering, obvious Oscar-bait, yes, but also well-earning of any such future accolades. Twitch's own Jason Gorber posted his own glowing review (a terrific piece, well worth your time) several weeks ago. He says: Lincoln is a film about procedures, showing the sausage-making process behind the crafting of one the most important pieces of legislation ever passed by the American government. The film skirts around many of the more overt moments of the presidency, setting its focus instead on the last four months of the man's life. It's also a film about a man prone to spinning... |
Looks Like Somebody's Gettin' Smacked In The New Poster For DABANGG 2! Posted: 08 Nov 2012 08:30 AM PST One of the biggest hits in Bollywood history is getting a sequel this year as Dabangg 2 is set to thrash some cinema screens on December 21st.The first Dabangg was a surprise blockbuster that ushered in the modern Bollywood trend of south Indian style masala action films. It was also the film that helped Salman Khan lurch out of his rut as a has-been star of half-assed action films. I suppose a case could be made for the success of 2009's Wanted being the film that put him back on the A-list, but it was the box office record smashing Dabangg that really showed that Khan still had major clout. The first Dabangg was directed by Anibhav Kashyap, brother of Indian independent flagbearer Anurag Kashyap. I... |
Review: NATURE CALLS For a Limited Audience Posted: 08 Nov 2012 08:01 AM PST I first learned of writer/director Todd Rohal when I saw his film The Catechism Cataclysm (or Cat Cat for short) at Sundance two years ago. You will either love or hate this film's guts -- I love it. I described this film as not a movie, but an experience, a bad acid trip gone awesome experience. (Note: I've never done acid but have seen Roger Corman's The Trip and am guessing it's bonkers.) Cat Cat was something I've never seen before -- an original, mind-fuck comedy adventure. His follow-up, Nature Calls with comedian Patton Oswalt, is something else for sure, but falls short of fitting into the wild and weird cinematic world Rohal has created.Randy (Oswalt) has lived and breathed boy scouting since the first... |
She's Not A Kid Any More. Alexa Vega Tweets Photo Of Her MACHETE KILLS Character. Posted: 08 Nov 2012 07:00 AM PST Remember the Spy Kids? You know, the precocious little tykes who starred in films designed to entertain Robert Rodriguez's children? Yeah, back in the day a young Alexa Vega was one of the titular stars. And now a significantly less young Vega is starring in Rodriguez's not even remotely for children Machete Kills and she's tweeted a photo of herself in costume as the gun wielding Killjoy. She's not a shy girl, evidently.... |
Twitch in Bondage: The Kids Talk THUNDERBALL Posted: 08 Nov 2012 06:00 AM PST Twitch is not the youngest of movie websites, and a number of the writing staff have children who are old enough to understand and consume media in a way that is both raw and fresh, but also with the inklings of consideration. Many of us fall in love with the movies when we are so young. Thus, we are offering you the perspective of smaller children as they react to seeing classic filmmaking on the big screen. In the past, Willem (Age 9) and Miranda (Age 8) have talked the films of Studio Ghibli and also reviewed Pixar's Brave. Here they take in their first 007 film, Thunderball and they had plenty to say about the inefficiency of the villains, James Bond's relationships with the ladies, and whether the... |
