New KICK-ASS 2 Comic-Con Trailer Brings Bad Guys, Bullets, Blood Posted: 19 Jul 2013 07:00 PM PDT Say "Hi" to Christopher Mintz-Plasse as The Mother Fucker. The San Diego Comic-Con is happening at the moment, and especially for this event Universal Pictures has released an extended trailer for Kick-Ass 2. The film itself will premiere next month. People who thought Universal was planning to tone down the violence somewhat, following Jim Carrey's famous disavowal of the film, ehm... judging from this trailer, they aren't. If anything, they seem to want the message out there that this film will be violent, and fun. This trailer is labeled NSFW, and Universal is quick to add that it contains "age-restricted content and is intended for a 17+ audience" (if THAT doesn't make you look I don't know what will...), although it probably is the harsh... Sabu Has A Crush On MISS ZOMBIE. Watch The Trailer Now! Posted: 19 Jul 2013 04:30 PM PDT Long time cult favorite director Sabu may have taken a turn towards the mainstream with his more recent output but it would appear that he's getting back to his playfully inventive and - it should be said - somewhat odd roots with his new effort, Miss Zombie.Komatsu Ayaka stars as the titular undead woman, a zombie delivered to a man's house in a cage with a gun and a sign saying not to feed her meat. She seems harmless enough so they keep her as a domestic servant. This one appears to be a rousing return to form for Sabu, an impression backed up by the fact the film has already been confirmed to appear in the L'Etrange Festival in France and Korea's Busan International Film... TRUE LOVE And Italy: Screenwriter And Producer Fabio Guaglione Talks About Making "Cool Movies" Posted: 19 Jul 2013 03:00 PM PDT In Italy they're known as Fabio&Fabio, a directing and screenwriting duo born in the Eighties and clearly influenced by everything released in the next two decades. Their real names are Fabio Guaglione and Fabio Resinaro and their story doesn't differ much from what we've heard from hundreds of other directors: Fabio&Fabio started doing their own stuff without bothering to attend a film school or any kind of workshop. They just practiced the craft. In the last decade they both worked and shared any kind of filmmaking experience, directing four short movies that traveled through the sci-fi genre festival circuit. First one was Ti chiamo io (I'll call you), then the breakthrough with E:D:E:N (2004), The Silver Rope (2006) and Afterville (2008). For all these years... Young Punks In Love In First Trailer For Lukas Moodysson's WE ARE THE BEST Posted: 19 Jul 2013 02:30 PM PDT Long known for his more edgy fare, Lukas Moodysson has been in many ways Sweden's answer to Lars Von Trier: A confrontational auteur prone to plumbing the depths of human darkness and stripping away the artifice of cinema to create films that play like a punch to the gut. And clearly he's decided it's time to do something different with his latest effort, We Are The Best.Stockholm 1982. A film about Bobo, Klara and Hedvig. Three 12-13-year-old girls who roam the streets. Who are brave and tough and strong and weakand confused and weird. Who have to take care of themselves way too early. Who heat fish fingers in the toaster when mom is at the pub. Who start a punk band without any instruments,... [Read the whole post on twitchfilm.com...] |

Watch A Pair Of Clips From Irish Creature Feature GRABBERS Posted: 19 Jul 2013 01:30 PM PDT Irish creature feature Grabbers hits VOD platforms across the USA today and we've got a couple clips of alcohol averse monster goodness to pass your way.On Erin Island, an idyllic fishing village off the coast of Ireland, charming but somewhat work-shy Ciaran O'Shea, is tasked with greeting Lisa Nolan, a straight-laced young officer who has arrived from the mainland. Not that there is much for them to do, aside from dealing with the occasional drunk, and that's usually O'Shea himself. But strange doings are afoot: the crew of a fishing boat disappears, whales start appearing dead on the shore, a local lobsterman catches a strange tentacled creature in his trap. Soon it becomes clear to O'Shea and Nolan that there's something big out there, and... [Read the whole post on twitchfilm.com...] |
Japan Cuts 2013 Review: JAPAN'S TRAGEDY, A Beautiful, Austere Tribute to Its People Posted: 19 Jul 2013 12:00 PM PDT How do you proceed making a film about Japan's recent tragedies- first, the crippling decades long recession that forced 31,650 Japanese into taking their own lives in 2010, then the horrific tsunami and Fukushima nuclear meltdown a year later, that took about 20,000 lives? One of the modern masters of Japanese cinema, Kobayashi Masahiro (Bashing, Haru's Journey) teams up with the legendary actor Nakadai Tatsuya (Yojimbo, Ran, Harakiri) again in an austere, emotionally devastating film that takes place in one location, shot in monochrome static long takes. It's a fitting film to an immeasurable grief that the battered nation must have been suffering for the last few years.Frail Murai Fujio (Nakadai) is discharged from the hospital. He has lung cancer and without further treatment, he... [Read the whole post on twitchfilm.com...] |

Review: R.I.P.D. Is C.R.A.P. Posted: 19 Jul 2013 10:30 AM PDT Alas, it comes the time in every summer when a high-concept, sci-fi themed comedy erupts on our screens in order to try to take our ticket money away from our stingy pockets. Some, like Back To The Future or Men In Black, worked to a certain extent. Others, like the rest of the mens in black [sic], not so much.So it's mildly disheartening to report that, yes, R.I.P.D. is exactly as bad as you expected it to be from the trailer. For a film that uses the stench of death as a major plot point (allusions to "Bacon gone bad" being a core metaphor), it's hard not to be snarky about the work. And thus, despite at least some modicum of restraint, I shall be... [Read the whole post on twitchfilm.com...] |
Welcome Back, SAMURAI JACK! Posted: 19 Jul 2013 09:30 AM PDT Even though it has been nine years since the series ended, many people still fondly remember Samurai Jack from creator Genndy Tartakovsky (Dexter's Laboratory, Powerpuff Girls) as one of the best shows ever on the Cartoon Network, and fans now have a good reason to rejoice! A new comic published by IDW Publishing will be continuing the adventures of Jack the displaced samurai warrior and his archrival Aku the shape-shifting monster. It will be written by Jim Zub (Skullkickers) and illustrated by Andy Suriano (character designer for the original Samurai Jack series). Zub said, "As a Jack and Genndy fan, I'm thrilled to be writing new stories that continue where the TV series left off. I'm channeling my inner samurai to deliver a fun action-packed ride each... Nicolas Winding Refn Names His Biggest Influences And Talks Making Films Like Pornography Posted: 19 Jul 2013 09:00 AM PDT With the release of Only God Forgives on the horizon and Twitch's 5 Days of Refn series to go along with it, the time was perfect for a little outside-of-the-box thinking. Still, I was a bit surprised when Nicolas Winding Refn agreed to my idea of the two of us kicking back and watching a film of his choosing. To go along with my chosen theme of influences, the film was to be one that Refn considered a seminal title that had shaped him as director. After seeing (and loving) Only God Forgives a few months prior, I expected something Asian; something gritty; something particularly visually stimulating. My fingers-crossed guess was a film by Suzuki Seijin. I was even more surprised when the film turned... [Read the whole post on twitchfilm.com...] |
Gina Carano Joins Rob Liefeld To Bring AVENGELYNE To Big Screen Posted: 19 Jul 2013 08:00 AM PDT Did you happen to walk by a comic book store Thursday and hear the collective gasp, cheers and/or virgin sacrifices to the comic book gods? If so, you heard the reaction to the news that MMA fighter turned actress Gina Carano will be working with Rob Liefeld to bring one of his earlier creations Avengelyne to the big screen. Carano and Liefeld are re-conceiving the title to be a starring franchise for the rising star in the vein of the Underworld series, which starred Kate Beckinsale. They will be at Comic-Con this Saturday to meet with fans and sign posters featuring Carano as the character. In the comic book, Avengelyne is a fallen angel, banished from Heaven by God after she was tricked into questioning His love for humans.... [Read the whole post on twitchfilm.com...] |
Kickstart This! HE TOOK HIS SKIN OFF FOR ME Delivers What It Promises. Posted: 19 Jul 2013 07:35 AM PDT Director Ben Aston is a major proponent of practical SFX over the use of CGI. This is an important thing to note when looking at his upcoming short film adaptation of Maria Hummer's short story He Took His Skin Off For Me and a major reason why he recruited former assistant to Ray Harryhausen, Colin Arthur, to mentor his team. And the results of an SFX test created by the team are quite simply stunning."Is this what you want? he asked, and I said yes, so he took his skin off for me."He hangs the loose skin in the closet and comes downstairs to join his girlfriend at the dinner table. This whole thing seems like a good idea. He's become what she always wanted... [Read the whole post on twitchfilm.com...] |
