I just arrived in the beautiful town of San Miguel de Allende, where Robert Rodriguez filmed Once Upon A Time In Mexico and where the 16th Guanajuato International Film Festival (GIFF) kicks off tonight. The activities already began in the morning but the official opening film, Fruitvale Station, screens tonight, with director Ryan Coogler in person. Say "Hi" to Christopher Mintz-Plasse as The Mother Fucker. The San Diego Comic-Con is happening at the moment, and especially for this event Universal Pictures has released an extended trailer for Kick-Ass 2. The film itself will premiere next month. People who thought Universal was planning to tone down the violence somewhat, following Jim Carrey's famous disavowal of the film, ehm... judging from this trailer, they aren't. If anything, they seem to want the message out there that this film will be violent, and fun. The very exciting news for all his fans and lovers of animated films in general is of course the release of his new film The Wind Rises (Kaze Tachinu) in Japan tomorrow. We now have the film's 4-minute trailer, previously only shown in Japanese theaters, to share with you. The Wind Rises is based on the life of Horikoshi Jiro, the man who designed the Zero fighter plane used in the attack on Pearl Harbor during World War II, and focuses on a time when Japan was struggling with recession, infectious outbreaks and natural disasters.
