Welcome To The Jungle opens in cinemas and on VOD February 7th and stars Jean-Claude Van Damme, Adam Brody, Kristen Schaal and Dennis Haysbert. To get us in the mood, a red band trailer for the film has now been unleashed.A group of unsuspecting office workers who find themselves stranded on a desert island when a corporate retreat led by unhinged former Marine Storm Rothchild (Van Damme) goes horribly wrong. Now Chris (Brody) and his co-workers must battle nature -- and each other -- to survive! JCVD has expressed a love for comedy in the past and this marks his first legitimate foray into the genre in an English language film - despite how some of his recent DTV offerings have been perceived. Sundance 2014 Review: Farsi Vampire Western A GIRL WALKS HOME ALONE AT NIGHT Barely Gets By On Novelty

Posted: 24 Jan 2014 08:00 PM PST

Yes. You read that right. A vampire western with a Farsi speaking cast. It's moody, and steely, and chock full of Lynchian atmosphere broadened by a Leone-esque scope. It's also in black and white and widescreen. If this doesn't sound oh so cool to the Twitch crowd, then I don't know what will. Thing is, that a great idea doesn't always mean a strong execution. And while A Girl Walks Home Alone At Night has enough great moments to knock it out of the park as a stellar short film, it's languid pacing doesn't constitute what increasingly feels like a hefty 104 minute running time.   Director Ana Lily Amirpour's background in painting, design and music are certainly seen (and heard) in every stark frame...

Sundance 2014 Review: THE DISOBEDIENT Is A Marvelously Absurdest Abstraction Of Young Adulthood

Posted: 24 Jan 2014 01:00 PM PST

About half way into Serbian director Mina Djukic's feature debut, our heroes, Leni and Lazar (childhood loves reunited) get caught in a rather curious rain shower. As if by magic conjured by the cinematic gods themselves, the sunny summer fields are caught off guard, awash, leaving the bicycling pair soaked to the bone in mere seconds. It's a moment that could only happen as such in the movies. As is what comes next...Abandoning their bikes outside a provincial community hall, the old friends run inside screaming. They kiss the wedding portrait propped at the door, snag a handful of balloons, pop them, and grab any clothes they can from coat check, and with great gusto and abandon, crash the wedding. As they prance around the...

Chow Yun Fat and writer-director Wong Jing return to the casino floor in this light-hearted action comedy that casts Chow alongside Nicolas Tse and Chapman To as con artists out to take down an international gambling syndicate. With his trademark genre-blending style, Wong flits between action, comedy, romance and espionage, delivering a fast-paced, loosely-plotted caper that should play strongly over the Lunar New Year holidays. When his family becomes the target of a powerful underground gaming ring, Cool (Nicolas Tse) turns to legendary gambler and former Vegas security consultant "Magic Hands" Ken (Chow Yun Fat) for help. Strasbourg 2013 Interview: David Perrault On His Film OUR HEROES DIED TONIGHT

Posted: 24 Jan 2014 08:00 AM PST

One of my biggest discoveries at last year's Strasbourg Fantastic Film Festival, and subsequent favorite films of 2013, was David Perrault's Our Heroes Died Tonight (aka Our Heroes Are Dead Tonight). The film, as one French critic called it, is a 'generous declaration of love to cinema', which sounds about right. Masked wrestlers tussling with gangsters and love in the in the black and white Paris of film history, I suppose, is another way to describe it, although that has basically the same effect.  Perrault's film is in the long tradition of French riffs on American genre, where the struggles in bistros and bedrooms are given equal weight to those in the ring. It brought the house down in Strasbourg. Twitch: Is it true that the idea...

Hungarian Teen Sci-Fi Flick AURA Trailer Is Surrounded By An Invisible Force

Posted: 24 Jan 2014 06:00 AM PST

In a lot of sci-fi flicks when an invisible force surrounds something it usually is a small town which allows the characters in the film a fair amount of real estate in which to run around scared in. In The Name Of Sherlock Holmes filmmaker Zsolt Bernath has chosen to confine his characters to a much smaller space in his next independent film, Aura. Four teens in a car, with the Hungarian version of Cronenberg's Clark Nova typewriter in the back, and not much else. We have the trailer from his next film and also some stills from the film to share with you. The full synopsis is below. Four kids, Tokyo, Pete, Adam and Esther wake up in their stranded car in an abandoned field only to find that the...

Strasbourg 2013 Interview: Xan Cassavetes On Shooting Sex, Sibling Rivalry, And The Vampire's Kiss

Posted: 24 Jan 2014 05:00 AM PST

Xan Cassavetes has had one hell of a showbiz story. Daughter of John and Gena, she made her screen debut in her father's films Husbands and Minnie and Moskowitz. Trawling the Lower East Side art-punk scene during early 80's, she found herself at both KRS-One and Madonna's very first shows. Later, she toured for almost ten years with the group Shrine before taking up the family business in 2004 with the documentary Z Channel: A Magnificent Obsession. We spoke this past fall at the incredible Strasbourg International Fantastic Film Festival, where her erotic vampire feature KIss of the Damned took the top prize. How many times do you get to write that? Twitch: Let's start with a softball question. Why chose this as your fiction debut? Well, I didn't choose it...
