Get Charmed With The Quirky Trailer For Swiss Romcom RECYCLING LILY

Posted: 06 Jan 2014 02:00 PM PST

Released in Swiss cinemas back in November, Recycling Lily looks to be the sort of film that very rarely travels internationally but I really wish would: A quirky, crowd pleasing romantic comedy executed with bags of style. In many ways what I see here from Pierre Monnard's debut feature reminds me a great deal of Swedish director Patrik Eklund (Flimmer) and it will likely run into the same sort of issues finding an international audience: It's too mainstream for the festival crowd and yet too odd to become a major crossover hit. Here's how Monnard describes the story:This offbeat comedy tells the story of a perfection-obsessed Bin Inspector, Hansjörg Sthäli, who falls for the wrong girl, Lily Frei, a charming waitress at his local diner...

Anticipated In 2014: The Films We Most Want To See

Posted: 06 Jan 2014 12:00 PM PST

With 2014 now fully upon us the Twitch team gathers to take a look at the films we most want to take a look at in the coming year. Is this some sort of scientific poll? Heck no, more just a group of geeky friends tossing tiles around and there are some obvious quirks and omissions in the result - after a series of email with many of the contributors jokingly asking if everyone was naming The Raid 2 nobody actually did with everyone assuming someone else would, for one - but we hope it'll serve as a useful conversation starter. Check out the selections below, listed in alphabetical order. And please note that to keep things on a manageable scale (or, at least, no...

Review: Endearing Cast Boosts Cross-Generational Comedy MISS GRANNY

Posted: 06 Jan 2014 11:00 AM PST

Three years after making a big splash in Sunny (2011), young actress Shim Eun-kyung returns in the Lunar New Year's (Seollal) holiday crowd-pleaser Miss Granny, a film that will be looking to sate the same demand that Miracle in Cell No. 7 filled this time last year. Oh Ma-soon is a grandmother working in an old-timers café who lives with her daughter, son-in-law and two grandchildren. As she nags her family to the end of their wits, they gradually grow tired of her. Then, one night, Mal-soon happens upon a photo shop with a mysterious owner. Shortly after her shot is taken, she catches a reflection of herself and sees that she's suddenly become 50 years younger. Choosing to hide her sudden transformation from her...

Extended Cut Of Ridley Scott's THE COUNSELOR Coming In February

Posted: 06 Jan 2014 10:30 AM PST

February cannot come too soon. After audiences unwisely ignored Ridley Scott's A-lister ensemble neo-noir and critics unfairly savaged it in print and online, it seems The Counselor is getting an extended cut for its Blu-ray release on the February 11. And this is not just a scene or two added, the run-time bounces from 117 minutes to 138 minutes.  While this is par for the course for Scott, who tinkers with nearly every film, in one manner or another, given time and multiple DVD releases. Blade Runner is, of course, legendary for the number of versions, but Kingdom of Heaven's extended cut is a marvel in itself. The Counselor was of my favourite films of last year, it was the only film I made it...
