Meet The DEALER In Super Stylish First Trailer Posted: 29 Apr 2014 02:00 PM PDT Is Jean Luc Herbulot France's answer to Nicolas Winding Refn? The trailer for his gritty crime thriller Dealer could have you thinking maybe yes. Loosely inspired by the actual history of lead actor / producer Dan Bronchinson, this is super stylish and gritty stuff made on the cheap completely outside of the usual funding system. After a life spent trafficking cocaine, Dan (Dan Bronchinson) has vowed that he will not go back to the life he once lived. But he's offered a one-time opportunity to achieve his life dream : moving to Australia with his daughter. He accepts the deal and soon starts a downward spiral sucking him back into 24 hours of lies, violence and treason where he has to save his daughter and... |
Udine 2014 Review: BE MY BABY, One Hitoshi's Penetrating And Brutally Honest Drama Posted: 29 Apr 2014 01:00 PM PDT Definitely the biggest surprise of the second day of this year's Udine Far East Film Festival was One Hitoshi's brutally realistic, dialogue-heavy drama Be My Baby. Shot and edited on a miniscule budget, One's sophomore feature examines the lives of nine seemingly futureless 20-something Tokyoites inhabiting Japan's lower social strata. Be My Baby delves deeply into a rough and uneducated environment, where still-relatively-young individuals lacking any viable prospects for a fruitful life go about cheating, deceiving and humiliating one another in a horribly brazen manner.Surprising though it may seem, the film accentuates some striking issues concerning the hardships of the characters' somewhat tragic lives without leaving a few apartments, and in those cramped spaces finds enough emotional baggage and pleasure-driven tension to keep the biting... |

Kevin Smith Goes Christmas Gore-y With ANTI-CLAUS Posted: 29 Apr 2014 09:45 AM PDT Kevin Smith hasn't put the finishing touches on his upcoming film Tusk, but he's already bringing the band together for his following project, the yuletide creature feature Anti-Claus. Justin Long, Michael Parks and Haley Joel Osment will all return for their next go-round with the burgeoning (and rather unexpected) horrormeister, this time for a film about the mythical Alpine devil Krampus, the 'evil Santa' that comes round every Christmas to reckon with those who've made the Naughty list. Says Smith: "In America, we're taught that nice kids gets presents from Santa and naughty kids get coal. But in countries like Germany, Austria, Bavaria, Romania and Hungary, Christmas is more metal than merry: Saint Nicholas brings a sack full of toys for good kids and the Krampus carries an... |
